My bedroom is on the east side of the house. In summer, it gets very bright and starts heating up by 6am, so I sleep in my guest room in summer, but it still gets pretty bright. I had 'blackout curtains', but they never worked, then I found they are a holdover from WWII, where they were used not to keep the sun out, but to keep 40 watt lights and candles in so German planes couldn't navigate. No wonder they never work. Finally found this. Light. Thin. DARK. Yeah, it's a pain to install. These self stick things are always iffy, but normally if you restick them well, after a few times it's on forever. Mine partially fell of 8 times the first 2 days. Now it's just up. And I only used 8 stickers: 2 on each upper corner, 2 in the middle, and one each on each side for now. If I sealed the edges, it'd be pitch dark, but I have a portable AC in that room, so the hose has to go out the window, but it's still dark enough that I need the lights on midday. Finally, no more waking at sunrise! But I can't use it on my bedroom because I have a camera and small solar panel in that window, and the temperature inside there would get too high. But that's not their fault, that's physics.

Not the easiest to install, but it is easier with two people. Easy to cut with sharp scissors and measure to window. Clean the windows before hanging to ensure proper stick. It works. Definitely helps keep the sun and light out . Reduces heat in the room. Rey affordable. The design is cute. I liked the design, hubby did not.

We needed total UV blockout because of the fact we do not yet have air conditioning while renovating an ancient home's windows, nor are we at a phase to purchase curtains or blinds. With the sun cooking us inside, I found this material and gave it a try. One order was enough to cover three windows and allow us to see the results. We are really satisfied and it's made the indoor environment cool down by 30+ degrees. This is easy to cut and manage; we have had to use thumbtacks for some to keep them up - but it has to do with the old window frames which are impossible to clean. Our windows are over 100 years old and not standard sizes, so we appreciate being able to cut to the sizes we need. Ordering more today!

We used these to cover windows when our grandchildren slept over (otherwise they get up with the sun!). The installation is even easier than the instructions indicate. Just glue one velcro pad to the corner of the fabric, attach the matching pad using the velcro, peel the paper from the second pad, and press it to the appropriate corner of the window frame. Repeat for the other side and cut the excess with a scissors. We covered a double and a single window with the package. Since we left some extra on the bottom of each piece we did not have to attach the bottom corners to the frame. You might want to do that if there is a breeze or if your sills protrude into the room a lot. The fabric is easy to handle and completely blocks out any light from entering the room. It was easy to remove and fold for repeated use. The bag makes it easy to keep the spare disks and the fabric together - and to transport it for travel. We left the velcro disks on the frame, so I can't tell if there might be residue when they are removed. Our frames are stained so I am not worried about paint peeling, but you might want to test that before you glue things in a visible area. Our intention is to buy decorative window coverings, but until them this is a great alternative.

I got these to help keep the early Arizona sunlight out of the nursery. These are made to be cut to a customizable size which really made them convenient to use for the various shaped sized windows we were dealing with. I wasn't too thrilled with the star but they weren't as bad as I thought. These kept the babies makeshift nursery dark even when the early sun shone bright into the windows. It halted the light.

I do not like it when the sun comes up 5:30 to 6:30 in the morning. My next house will have the kitchen facing east and the bedrooms facing west. This blackout material makes me much happier on the summer mornings when the sun shines. Not hard to do although you will need some scissors and a yardstick and pencil will help with cutting accurately. A tape measure is included, but I think a yardstick is better. If you don't like the wrinkled folded look you can iron this "fabric" on the star side with a cool iron.. Not the silver side. While maybe not the most beautiful solution it is a solution that saves lots of money on expensive window coverings.

I ordered these temporary blackout shades with a star pattern a while back to block out the sun from a window in my bedroom. The shades are made of a thin, black film that comes in sections that you have to cut to fit your window. They come with adhesive pads that you can use to attach them to the window frame. The shades are easy to install and they do block out the sun quite well. I also like the star pattern, which makes the shades look nice when they are in place. However, the adhesive pads don't hold up well over time. After a few weeks, the shades started to fall off the window frame. I had to replace the adhesive pads several times, which was a bit of a hassle. I'm not very impressed with the shades. They're thin and flimsy, and the adhesive pads don't hold up well. I would only recommend these shades if you're looking for a temporary solution, and if you don't mind having to replace the adhesive pads every few weeks.
