Description

Alpine squalls or urban downpours, the StormLine Stretch Rain Shell can handle it all. Featuring our BD.dry waterproof/breathable/windproof solution, which is engineered to shield you from whatever the weather holds, the StormLine is a fully featured rain shell. With DWR sealed pit zip vents, two zippered hand pockets and a waterproof center front zipper, the StormLine comes prepared for the wettest conditions but quickly adapts for moderate weather. The StormLines underarm gussets and ultra-stretchy fabric add mobility and durability, while the climbing-helmet-compatible hood makes it perfect for on-route escapades when inclement weather rolls in. The StormLine also has an adjustable hem and cuffs for dialing in the fit, and when the sun comes out, the shell stows into the right-hand pocket and clips to a harness or bag with a carabiner clip loop.

This jacket is great. It's now going to be my go-to for backpacking on the Appalachian Trail or Rocky Mountains when temps are not low enough to warrant a heavier lined jacket. I took it for a test run this past weekend in the Smokey Mountains, where temps fluctuated between 30 and 61 degrees and steady rainfall feel during long portions of one day in particular. The jacket kept me completely dry. It was also light enough to backpack with it on and one t-shirt underneath. The armpit vents helped kept me from overheating or gathering moisture as I hiked. The material also kept the cold sub-30 degree strong winds from getting to me as well. It was slim enough to not interfere with movement (I hate bulky jackets or clothing), and yet roomy enough to allow for me to add several layers underneath when temps were low. That said, if I would have stayed in the cold for longer periods of time without hiking or doing exercise, I believe I would have started to get cold. For colder temps and comfort, I go with my Columbia Men's Last Tracks Jacket. That jacket has been stellar for me in the single digit to freezing temp, snowy, ice-rain weather. The jacket has velcro on the end of the sleeves which is great at keeping the rain and wind out. It's hood is also very well designed in combination with how far up the zipper goes to create a nice barrier for your head and face. It's got like some sort of plastic wire in the cap of the hood, which I found helpful for keeping rain off my face... it was like the bill of a baseball hat. I like the zippered water proof pockets too. I also appreciated that the branding is low key and is not obnoxious like other brands. The string on the bottom of the jacket is good also, because it can be pulled to cinch the jacket and keep the wind from getting underneath and onto your core. I'm the kind of shopper who will spend a little extra money for a product (especially a useful one) if the product is well made and is of excellent quality. This jacket was worth the $$$ and I'd highly recommend. As far as sizing goes... I'm a fit 6' tall, 170-175 lbs, so I went with a medium. It was an ideal fit for me. ... show more

    • Not waterproof for long
I did a lot of research before purchasing this product in the hopes that it would truly be water resistant as advertised. After six months of use, this raincoat has lost its waterproof properties. I am so disappointed to have spent all of this money for an item with such a short lifespan!

Great purchase! A shell that breathes and is dry. I love it but the rip in the picture sucked. I am disappointed it tore of course. Maybe a one and done with this brand because of the quick tear.

I am rating the seller and not the jacket, which is actually very good. This item was sold by Black Diamond store, a store, that belongs to the actual manufacturer. The seller obviously sent me a used item. You can see the dirt spots on the first picture. There were no tags on the jacket either, so someone must have used and return it. This jacket retails at REI at $165, so $92 for an item with some dirt isn't a bad deal for this price. But sending a used piece to a customer and representing it as brand new one, Black Diamond, really? When I selected it, the ad on Amazon said that it was the last one, but there was nothing there about it being used. Now they are selling the very same jacket for $239. Shame on you, Black Diamond - if you want to get rid off used merchandise - mark it so! ... show more

Good fit. I live in a pretty warm climate (Hawaii), and find the jacket to be a little less breathable than I had hoped. Wear it on the golf course for the frequent rain showers we get over here. So far, so good 👍🏼6

Ordered for my son who is an EMT and he LOVES it. The type of material will not soak in anything! So if any type of fluids gets on it, they will just roll off.
