  • A great iron for everyday use.
Color: Gray/Blue
This iron feels sturdy without being overly heavy or tiring to use, the steam output is good, and liberal use of the steam ‘burst’ doesn’t result in an excess of water pouring out of it. The size is good and it has the safety features you would expect (auto-shutoff). Basically, the only feature this iron is lacking is a retractable cord. This doesn’t bother me as those are usually the first thing to break on an iron. ... show more

  • Nice Iron!
Color: Gray/Blue
My husband is the person who irons most in our house. He likes a nice, sturdy iron. He’s pleased with this one so far. Works well, heats fast, and a nice weight.

  • VERY GOOD IRON
Color: Gray/Blue
Warning, I tend towards the verbose! Received this Iron 2 days ago and have done loads of ironing. I love to iron. First time I ever ironed was in the Marine Corps and I have been ironing ever since. Why? Don't know. Ironing is a pleasure. When I was working I starched and ironed all my shirts (went through 5 or more a week). I liked a lot of starch which suggests ironing was a bit of a learned skill. My ironing board hasn't been upgraded in 60 years. My iron has been replaced twice. The first one lasted about 45 years. The second one only 15 years. Purchasing an iron is a big deal to me. My first iron was vary basic. All it did was get hot and produce steam. The second iron, a Christmas gift had a lot of bells and whistles which I rarely used. Also, the iron would stain cloth about once every four weeks requiring about 30 minutes of cleaning. Don't know what the problem was. So third iron is needed. One week on-line research resulted in the choice of the black and decker. After the two days of ironing the iron is OK but nothing to write home about. It has some bells but no whistles. The dial for degree of heat is a bell that is not worth much. It is certainly needed but I can't read it at all - even with my quite powerful magnifier. Black tiny printing on brown is not smart. In fact shouldn't the responsible (engineer?) who decided on tiny black on a brown (dark) background be sent back to school? I worked as an engineer, Industrial specializing in stock management and office and floor personnel efficiency, This idea of black and tiny printing would not be acceptable - even an idiot boss I had many years ago who required yarn models as parts of every project wouldn't have accepted such. So, remove one star. Another problem for me was the weight. I'm 84 and have watched my muscles leave for younger people. Still after 30 minutes or so, the iron's weight was a challenge - for me. Your experience will probably differ if you lack my challenges - lessening strength, very poor eyesight and a brain which once or twice a week decides it want to do something different from what my body is in the process of doing. This tends to cause dizziness and falling, walking in circles, losing the ability to talk or losing the ability to propel myself forward. Cute story. I had finished chainsawing heavy brush and turned to walk home. My brain decided it didn't want to walk, So, there I am just inside the brush with a chainsaw hanging from my hand looking for assistance (a gentle push was all that was needed. A woman of about 60 came walking by. I called to her and she crossed the street. 20 minutes later she was coming back. I called to her again and she came over. I explained the problem and she gave me a gentle push. She then said, "You shouldn't stand in the brush with a chainsaw if you need help. It is disconcerting," Had a good laugh zt those words, said thank you and walked home. Told you I ran off at the mouth. Hope the review portion of all these words was of some value. ... show more

  • No more Rowenta for me! (2017 updated 2021, 2022)
Color: Gray/Blue
I have been using Rowenta "pro" irons for 15 or 20 years. During that time I've had four of them. Because the Rowentas have a poorly designed water tank. Every one of them would develop a leak while the thing was standing on the board, on the heel. The tanks split because the adhesive fails. Because I'm an engineer, I fixed them several times - I found replacement tanks, and then found better adhesive for the tank that failed. I paid as much for a tank as I did for this Black and Decker iron. So I tried this iron instead. Those Rowenta were three times the price of this Black and Decker. The features of this iron are very competitive with my recently-failed Rowenta Pro - identical sole plate size, stainless steel, adjustable steam, nice heft (I prefer a heavier iron), good water capacity, well designed cord strain relief. The Rowenta was 1700 watts. This one is 1600 watts. I just got through my first Shirt Ironing Marathon and the B&D did a super job. Smooth glide, good steam (even on the low setting). The Rowenta has hundreds of steam holes and this has relatively few, but even so this did a great job on my shirts. So now we'll have to see how this one lasts. My last Rowenta is now 5 years old, use it about twice a month, for 12 or 15 shirts at a time. So basically one person. Update Aug 2021 This B&D iron is still going strong. No leaks. Works GREAT. Uh Buh Uh Bye Rowenta... I would suggest running through the 'cleaning blast' process occasionally. I have somewhat hard water. I use a filtration / softener gadget to help with that. But still, I have found on two or maybe three occasions over the last 4 years that it would spit white minerals (aka 'scale'). As soon as you see that, it's time to get an old towel, crank the iron to high, and press the button to blast additional water to the sole plate. Iron the towel mercilessly, blasting away with the steam. This will help release the gunk. I was AMAZED at how much gunk came out the last time, and more amazed that more of that gunk didn't end up on my shirts. So Kudos to Black and Decker for a great product at a great price. Update Sept 2022 It died this morning. :( . The sole plate does not heat. There are no replacement parts for these, and they used special screws to keep the curious out. But.... HAH! I took it apart anyway. Confirmed that the heater coil is toast. Oh well... I got five good years out of it. Far longer than any of the Rowentas I'd owned. Just ordered another one. ... show more

The BLACK+DECKER Allure Steam Iron works well for everyday ironing. The 30% more steam feature helps with wrinkles, and the stainless steel soleplate glides smoothly. The precision tip is useful for tight areas, and the vertical steam function is a nice bonus. Overall, it gets the job done efficiently. ... show more
