Recommended to me by a friend, I bought this when the heat wave happened. Since then I've been turning this unit on around high 75F+, and it cools my room within 5-15 mins. My room is about 11ft x 11ft. I haven't done my research yet, but in my opinion it's safe to assume that this unit is mostly meant for smaller to mid-sized rooms. I wouldn't buy this unit for a living room size simply because of the BTU's. The unit will work as intended but won't cool the room nearly as fast. As I've said, I haven't done much research so take my review with a grain of salt. I also keep this on during the night for 2 hours. There's a night function that puts the fan at the slowest speed and turns down the brightness of the screen on the unit. The unit is kind of loud still at the lowest setting, so if you're a light sleeper (MAYBE) look for a quieter unit. For me, I've gotten used to the sound and it kind of adds background noise. Lastly, I feel like the controls and design of the remote could've been better, I recommend reading the manual to learn the controls. Also I wish that the screen on the remote was LED, it kind of gets annoying to use at night when you want to adjust the temperature but you can't see. Overall, I'm satisfied: the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Powerful performance

Absolute best money we have spent. We are staying with my parents while my husband finishes school so we can save and buy a home. My father runs cold and my husband is a human heater so summers can be quite miserable. This unit works better than we could have hoped and finally gave us the cool summer nights sleep we have desperately needed. It is slightly louder than we had hoped and it took some getting used to when running at night but the comfort is well worth the adjustment. 10/10 would buy again.

Which BTU number is MOST important?

[1] Be careful when considering BTU rating. The most important BTU is the SACC number. The unit does not cool a 500 square foot garage for example. [2] The automatic evaporation function doesn't eliminate water accumulation when the unit is set on AC only.

Great air conditioner!!

I'll begin by saying, I am a big fan of Black & Decker products. I have many of their cordless tools, and a cordless self-propelled lawn mower that has been going strong for 11 years on the original battery. When I began my search for portable AC units for my kids' rooms, I came across the B &D models and didn't hesitate to purchase 2. This is now our 2nd season with these units and I have not been disappointed. These units are powerful. When the outside temperature was approaching 100, their rooms stayed a very comfortable 68. Set up was simple. My son's room has a sliding window. The window kit that came with the unit was perfect. We had the AC installed and running in under 5 minutes. My daughter's room has a crank out window, so I purchased the Homee Universal Window Seal to install hers. The window seal took slightly longer to install, but the seal works great! At the end of the season we'll just roll them into their closets until next year. Having had both window and portable ACs, this is about average for noise level. Once the room reaches the desired temperature, the compressor kicks down and it operates pretty quietly. These units are very energy efficient. Prior to purchasing these units, we used window and tower fans to cool their rooms. My electric bill has dropped by about 1/3 since installing these units. In all, I am very satisfied with the units and expect they will serve us as well as the other Black and Decker products we own.

I live in Reno Nevada and it’s been hitting over 100 degrees for weeks and my apartment has no ac. i have a long haired cat who was uncomfortable and overheated and i was too. this unit saved us !!! the rest of my apartment will be 90 degrees and my room will be a comfy 70 or so. totally worth it and i (a 19 year old girl) installed it myself. it is a little noisy, but i typically sleep with sound so it doesn’t bother me. totally recommend !

Gets the job done

The unit arrived quickly (a couple of days after ordering it; 👍way to go, Amazon!). It took me under an hour to haul package in, inbox it, read the instructions, attach the hose and window bar, install it and crank it up. The instructions were relatively easy to follow, and, once it was turned on, it cooled the area effectively. Easy care notes for maintaining the unit are included on a separate sheet to prolong the life of the air conditioner, including info about cleaning the filters and using the drain at the bottom every couple of weeks to drain off excess water from high humidity days in service. A good purchase for anyone looking for a portable A/C.

Extremely loud/poorly Constructed

I purchased this with the intend of giving it a pretty difficult task of trying to cool down a small garage in Tucson AZ. However the size of it was well below what the unit is rated for. First and foremost, it took almost 10 min for the actual A/C compressor to finally kick in. Which to me is suspicious right off the bat. Second, when the compressor FINALLY turned on, the buzzing was so unbelievably loud that I thought something had broken. Turns out it's just a poorly constructed outer case. I had to pry the edge of the casing away from the inturnal fan because that's what was making the buzzing. So right there was a deal breaker for me. Despite the noise I let it go on just so that I could give a full review on its capabilities. I let it run for about an hour almost two, to see if it made the garage cool. Sad to say it did not. If anything it actually got hotter due to the exhaust having no insulation whatsoever. The exhaust being so thinly made of cheap plastic counteracts the unit. I wrapped the exhaust up in blankets and tin foil ( Again for the sake of reviewing the product) Sadly still, it could not cool the room down at all after another 30 min. In conclusion I would not recommend this unit in the slightest. The BTU rating is in my opinion greatly exaggerated. Even with the Herculean task I assigned it, it should have made at least a slight change in the temperature. It did not. Terrible construction Cheap parts Waste of money due to exhaust circulating even hotter air.

Window vent attachment barely holds together

The unit cools pretty well and is relatively quiet for one of its kind but the vent hose and window attachment latch system is so weak that when you go to attach one end to the window panel, the other end of the hose detaches from the ac unit with the slightest pressure. It’s made with tiny plastic teeth that are supposed to latch, but are no match for even the smallest amount of weight/pressure from the hose. I ended up duct taping it all together to get it to hold, let alone seal effectively. I’m very frustrated to have spent so much money on something that would be great if they had just put more thought into something so simple.
