Our best purchase of the year!

We LOVE this fridge/freezer so much, we bought two. My husband and I were struggling with how much we hated our old fridge/freezer setup. It was small, and had two vertical French-style doors. We couldn’t fit anything because of how small each side was. We were looking at new setups for months, and everything we liked was too big for the fridge space we have in our kitchen, and everything that was the right size was junk. My husband mentioned one day that we could get an industrial style fridge and a separate deep freeze in another area to maximize the space that we do have. I loved the idea, so I set out to find what would work for that. More months of searching, we found a different style single unit that could be set as either a fridge or freezer that we liked and were getting ready to buy, but at that time we were still planning out wedding and got busy and distracted. We had our wedding, and most of our friends and family bought us Amazon gift cards and cash as gifts, so we came to Amazon to buy the other setup, when this appeared on my homepage. It was on sale, and we got an extra discount with our Amazon wedding registry. Even without the regular discount, this one was almost 25% bigger and about $100 cheaper than the one we were looking at. I showed my husband, and we decided to pull the trigger. Delivery was fast and easy, they brought it into our kitchen on our preferred date. We got it in place and plugged in immediately. The temperature control is extremely easy, and within a few hours the fridge was at a crisp 32°. A week later, we bought a second one! Delivery and setup was easy, and again, within a few hours the fridge was at -9°. We’ve had them both for a few months now (we bought in April/May) and we are so happy with our purchases! There is so much space, we almost don’t know what to do with it all. Our wedding cake is rock solid, and I am confident that it will be perfectly preserved for our first anniversary. They are both incredibly quiet, and if you have little at home, you don’t have to worry about sticky finger smudges, as it hides them pretty well. Both units were delivered in perfect condition without any dents or damage, and has held up well with two adults, two dogs, and four cats, who all always seem to be in the kitchen. We are so happy with our purchase and our decision to have single until fridge and freezer spaces. I purchase from Amazon often, almost every day, and this was probably the best purchase of the entire year so far.

Excellent Freezer

I put half gallon jugs of water in the door, and within 2 days time they're solid is rock. So this thing really can freeze. Excellent worksmanship. The door assembly is excellent, seals perfectly. I would highly recommend this freezer to anyone that's looking for a medium size freezer. Will freeze food very well.

Do NOT buy. Ver poor customer service.

Item arrived damaged. Looks like it was dropped on its bottom corner before it was packed for shipping as the shipping box and materials were totally in tact. I contacted the company and they were zero help. Amazon made things right after 2 phone calls and a lot of aggravation. After 2 months, the refrigerator suddenly lost it's cooling ability and began to unfreeze. I contacted the company via their toll free number and they sent me an email wanting proof of purchase and photos of the issue and would "escalate" the issue. I provided this information (sent a picture of the temperature reading) and still haven't recieved a response in over 24 hours. During the initial call, I was offered no troubleshooting suggestions such as unplugging the unit to reset it etc...which was a suggestion upon researching the issue online. This did correct the problem, however I am concerned this will happen again. This purchase has not been a pleasant experience and I would NOT recommend this product. Very poor customer service.

Great Appliance

Initially I was very skeptical about buying this refrigerator/freezer. I associated this brand with irons and blenders and smaller appliances. I read the reviews and decided to make a purchase. I am vey happy with this decision. I use mine as a refrigerator and it has performed excellently. I love the stainless steel look, the large shelves for maximum storage. I also love how quiet it is. I was also impressed with the fact that the door can be installed both ways to accommodate left handed as well as right handed people.

Don't Let the Brand Name Fool You - A Great Compact Refrigerator

I'll admit, I was a bit hesitant to buy this refrigerator. I wasn't familiar with BLACK+DECKER as an appliance brand, and there was an unexplained 1-star rating online that gave me pause. However, I rolled the dice because the dimensions were perfect for my small kitchen alcove, and I'm very glad that I did. What I Liked: Perfect for Small Kitchens: The compact footprint is a perfect fit for my small kitchen alcove, where a standard-sized fridge would have been too large. Surprisingly Spacious Interior: This is the most impressive part. Despite being only 16 cu. ft., I was shocked that I could fit everything from my old, much larger 21.3 cu. ft. refrigerator inside. The internal layout is incredibly efficient. Great Features for its Size: The French door design, bottom mount freezer, and built-in ice maker are all features you'd expect on a larger, more expensive model. Quiet Operation: The refrigerator is surprisingly quiet. I barely notice it running, except for maybe a little noise during the initial startup or when the ice maker cycles, which is totally normal. Amazing Value: For the features you get in this compact size, the value at this price point is amazing. It feels like a much more expensive appliance. Sleek Look: The black finish looks modern and sleek in my kitchen. What I Didn't Like: Dim Interior LED Lighting: My only real complaint is that the interior LED lighting isn't very bright. It illuminates the space, but it could definitely be brighter to make it easier to see items tucked away in the back. Who Should Buy: Anyone with a smaller kitchen, apartment, or a tight alcove who needs a full-featured refrigerator in a compact size. Budget-conscious shoppers who want premium features like French doors and an ice maker without the premium price tag. People who are good at organizing and can take advantage of an efficient interior layout. Who Should Skip: Large families who genuinely need the cubic footage of a full-sized (22+ cu. ft.) refrigerator. Individuals who are very particular about having bright, vivid interior lighting in their appliances. Star Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars I'm very happy I took a chance on this BLACK+DECKER refrigerator. Almost perfect

So this is a mostly negative review. I have some thoughts about this unit and how durable and workable it is if you plan to use it as intended (as a freezer or refrigerator). First off, the price on these units are so great that I bought two of them to replace my worn out fridge/freezer combo. The unit that I am using as a freezer I have zero complaints about. It arrived ready to unbox and plug in. The temperature screen on the front is easy to program to your desired level of freezing cold and the shelves and door proved a ton of freezer storage. Now onto my second unit which I use as a refrigerator. Within two weeks it developed a loud (like cats fighting or rusty metal screaming) sound every time you open the door. I removed every item from the attached door shelves worried that the weight was adding an undue strain on the door's hinges, but the sounds continued without any noticeable decrease in volume. So then I was convinced that it must be trapped dust, I used a small bit of canned air on the top most hinge, still no change. But this is not the most disturbing of problems. The door really has to closed, by that you must be diligent in intentionally pushing the door closed so that it fully meets the doorframe and 'connects.' This doesn't happen in an almost accidental way like it does for the freezer. Several times now we have had to toss out food because the refrigerator was too warm inside due to the door still being open! Anyways, make of this what you will. My thought is that the unit we use for a refrigerator must have some defect that is making the door sound like it it is days away from completely falling off. So it is one out of two on the doors. Everything else is fine. Everything stays cold. It has a nice amount of shelves, the shelves are glass and easy to wipe clean. When on a freeze setting there hasn't been a bunch of ice buildup and there is enough room to spread items out.
