I am a retired professional baker. I still bake alot in my home. I mostly use my stand mixer but always like a hand mixer for certain recipes. My 15 year old hand mixer is starting to show its age, so it was time for a new one. I loved my old one because it was well built, sturdy and felt like it was built to last. My expectations were low at finding a replacement I liked as much without spending a fortune. I also wanted a cordless one as I live off grid, and I thought this was cordless based on listing photos, but I didn't read the description and when I got it, I saw this was corded. However, I am very pleased with this mixer. At the price of this B&D, I honestly expected way less than I got. I was pleasantly surprised at how sturdy it feels. It is heavy, so feels well built like my old one, and that was a good surprise given the affordability of this one. The listing says that the blade material is "plastic" and they should fix that because the blades are metal, not plastic. The beater blades, dough hooks and whip are not as sturdy as my old faithful, but they work well. The listing states it is a 250w mixer, but the box lists it at 285W. It is a small little beasty! It has 5 levels of power and a turbo boost like my old one that lets you choose that burst of power with a pulse type mode, so if you're mixing on low speed but want a sudden burst of high speed to mix stubborn clumps, just hit that button for a second or two and when you release it, you are back to low speed. The speeds are good, variable and high speed is powerful. It didn't even struggle or groan while mixing my stiff cookie dough. The whip attachment whipped up egg whites quicker than my old handheld. The design of this one has a nice angle to set on the counter and I like the storage case for the blades, hooks and whip. Although not the cordless I had imagined, it is a great appliance at a very affordable price. It will be my back up or a great second mixer to have when mixing several components of a recipe and I don't want to keep cleaning blades between batters. I am very satisfied with this mixer. I went from baking with a dollar general hand mixer and upgraded to this. I am too cheap to buy a stand mixer for 300+ bucks but finding this, I feel like I won’t have the need for one anyway. This has attachments to do anything you need for baking, I feel like I made my hobby of baking so much easier- and also the container to put everything, genius! ... show more

    • Much improved over my old hand mixer
This is a great inexpensive hand mixer. It comes with the usual beaters, a whisk and 2 dough hooks. Plus it has a storage case so you don't have to go looking all over for the attachments. It has plenty of power for sauces, puddings, cookies and cake recipes. I don't make bread so I can't speak to that though I might try it now that I have a tool that would make it easier. I like that it has a controlled start up and so far I haven't splashed myself or the kitchen with whatever I'm mixing. It is way more powerful than my old mixer and I like that it has a turbo boost of speed should I need it. I got this to replace a hand mixer that I have had for many years. This mixer from Black & Decker comes with not only the beaters, but also dough hooks and a whisk attachment! I've actually never seen a hand mixer with the dough hooks before so I'm very excited to try them out! The five varying speed levels are great for baking. The lowest speed starts out very slow so that you don't splash ingredients everywhere. There is a noticable difference between all five speeds. I made some mashed potatoes and used the turbo function to finish them off and give them a bit of extra "fluff". I haven't gotten to try the dough hooks yet but hope to this weekend! This mixer has a very heavy duty feel to it for a hand mixer. It's also a bit larger than most hand mixers I've seen or used - I can see that being both a positive and negative. I needed a new mixer, and this BLACK+DECKER 5-Speed Hand Mixer is a major upgrade over the ancient model I had. It has a very stylish, modern look which I love. The handle makes it easy to grip. It has some weight to it, but it doesn't feel too heavy to me. My old model just had beaters, but this also has a whisk and dough hooks and storage for them. It's very powerful and works great. This is an essential hand mixer for the kitchen. It was super easy to get set up with and start using. The mixer comes the necessary attachments, as well as a plastic case that attaches to the bottom of the mixer to store the attachments when not in use. Everything feels and sounds solid and high quality. In terms of using the mixer, do note that it is corded, despite some of the photos (like the product box) not showing any electrical cord. Attaching the mixing attachments is super easy, just line them up and push them in. Then all you have to do is plug it in to power, and press the buttons on the top of the mixer to turn it on and change the speed, or hold down the Turbo button for instant top speed. ... show more
