I have used a crap weedwhacker for years that I had to advance the string manually. I finally broke down and bought a cheap Greenworks one last year, and it was no better and advanced the string too fast and became a leg whacker. So, I was skeptical of this one. I have only used it once, but it was amazing! It was SUPER EASY to setup; just snap on the guard and you're good to go whack weeds. It was VERY WELL ENGINEERED and easy to use! As a weedwhaker, it advanced the string perfectly. After doing my entire yard, the string was the same length, and I didn't have to mess with it once. The mower attachment is the best invention since high speed Internet! It easily snaps in, and the whole thing is as light as.... a weed whacker! Instead of mowing my yard in strips, it was more like I was vacuuming my back yard! This is good and bad I suppose because it did take longer than my old mower and wear on my arm. However, the final mow looked just as good and even. Plus, while I was mowing, it was easy to snap the whacker out of the base and do corners and edging, so no extra step to do! My grass was overgrown, and this thing plowed through it without slowing down, like a small bush hog! No bog down problems like I've had from electric and gas mowers. I did have some problems with the whacker coming out of the base when going over rough terrain, but otherwise it was great. Keeping the base clean of grass clippings will help it stay locked in. Speaking of clippings, it mulches the grass very well since there is no place for the clippings to escape and the string keeps spinning full speed. I agree with a previous review, if this thing breaks, I will buy another one. This thing is so well built and works so great, even if you just need a weed whacker and have no intention of using the base to mow, I would but this one and use the base to store it! ... show more

The campground my family and I live requires that year-round and seasonal renters take care of the upkeep of their own lot. Our first year here we decided to use a small corded electric weedeater very similar to this one for our yard maintenance but we weren't completely satisfied with it and decided to look at other options that would work better for our use without taking up too much of our limited storage space. While we were looking at different options we came upon this so we decided to give it try. In a side by side comparison to the weedeater we were using previously there isn't any noticeable difference between the two. They both have the same adjustability and performance characteristics; however, when it comes to ease of use this one reigns supreme. The lawnmower style base makes quick work of our small lot and allows for a consistent cut without all the fatigue that comes with using a weedeater without a base. The quick detach feature the base has makes this even better because we can still get in those tight spaces without needing a different tool. Adding to the ease of use is the height adjustable shaft that makes it easier for both of us to comfortably use it even with our 11 inch height difference. I definitely recommend this to anyone who needs something simple to maintain a small yard ... show more

Received yesterday and used it immediately. I was a little doubtful when I realized that the only cutting mechanism was the string. However, it did a respectable job on my over-grown grass. My townhouse yard is medium-sized and I must admit I missed the mow lines I'm accustomed to seeing on a freshly mowed lawn. However, I'm willing to make that trade in favor of the light-weight ease of transporting this in and out of the house. I previously had a 15 inch electric B&D mower. Which did the job nicely until it recently died. I rarely used the catcher bag anyway, but I notice the reduced mulching effect from this new machine. However since I usually regularly mow, it probably won't be a deal breaker. It was easy to assemble. The string setup seems self-maintaining (you should immediately buy extra string, since it is the "cutting tool") and the only tricky part was height adjustment (the directions are mainly pictorial and while I was aware of the feature, it was on a separate sheet with very fine print that I found the instructions). There a groove on each of the wheels. When you push it forward you change the height from low to high. Make sure all the wheels are the same or cut will be uneven. As for edging, it was extremely quick and easy to disengage from mower attachment. I FINALLY managed to edge my lawn! :) In the past the string would break and I couldn't get it restrung. Handy tool. Important to clean equipment afterwards to keep things functioning (past mistake I believe). I would definitely recommend this model for a SMALL yard with medium to thin grass thickness (carpet-type grass may require too many passes). I can see it also working well on tricky hills too. Due to the mower attachment's plastic construction, I plan to be careful with it in order to prolong durability. I would also advise being extra diligent in clearing the yard of any twigs, etc. Overall, thumbs up!! Nifty little invention. :) ... show more
