  • Grew on me quickly
Style: 12-Cup Coffee System
To be honest, I wasn’t thrilled at first during unboxing, but now I’ve been using this for a month, I’ve learned to love this coffee machine. It works beautifully and I was able to score a great price by buying a refurbished unit.

  • Great coffee maker but no replacement carafe available **Update - Found a workable carafe**
Style: 12-Cup Coffee System
**** Update 5/3/2025 **** For those of you looking for a replacement carafe I found one! With the nub on top of the carafe (that pushes in the coffee dispenser, this one is a little tall for the B&D, but it works. It's just a snug fit. The top of the carafe doesn't line up with where the coffee comes out on the B&D but it's tall enough that it still pushes in the coffee dispenser and the coffee goes into the carafe and doesn't spill. So pleased I'm able to use this again. This is a no-name brand but have it used for about a week and it's working fine. https://www.amazon.com/12-Cup-Replacement-Coffee-Compatible-coffeemakers/dp/B0DZXD8ZBN/ref=cm_cr_srp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 ------ We've owned several coffee makers over the years but for the last 20+ have always used a 'grind and brew' approach. Our first grind-enabled coffee machine was a Melitta, nearly identical in design to this one. After several plastic pieces broke (as a result of a drop) I could no longer find this style (blade grinder built into the filter basket). Ultimately we decided to upgrade to a burr-grinder design (Cuisinart). At the time those were very expensive. We've pretty much used that model ever since. However, after having a few of those fail on us, I went searching and was pleased to find the Black and Decker was now making a nearly identical product to our first Melitta. I find this design much simpler to use and clean than the burr grinder models that have the bean storage on top. After making coffee you simply remove the filter/case, dump the used grounds in your compost (or trash), and rinse everything out. Very easy and don't mind the reviews that talk about 'sludge'. If you have your grind setting set for a long period of time (based on the number of cups you want to make) you may get some 'very fine' grounds at the bottom, but you can adjust the grind time by selecting smaller numbers of cups. I recommend playing with this until you find your perfect cup. I generally put in fewer tablespoons of beans, and then set the grind for even fewer than that. As an example, for 10 cups of coffee I put in 8 scoops, set the grind to 6 and the coffee is delicious. We use roasted (ie oily) beans so the coffee tends to be stronger. As for the coffee temperature, I tested it coming from the filter basket into the coffee pot and it is around 179. That is not ideal but about the same as most coffee makers out there. I wasn't able to test the water temp coming into the filter basket but it's probably lower than the recommended 195+. I looked for inexpensive coffee pots that achieve the 'ideal' brew temperature range but was unable to find any. In a nutshell, this is an easy to use, easy to clean, easy to program grind and brew coffee maker. It's a pretty good value if not a little wider than necessary. I like the access to the water chamber, the pour from the carafe, and the aesthetic is ok. HOWEVER, the reason for the 1 star drop from a 5 star rating is I accidentally broke the carafe while cleaning it. In doing searches there appears to be no replacement carafe available. There are carafes for many other B&D models, just not this one. The replacement on their website is out of stock with no foreseeable availability date. I'll continue to try to find one or use some other model that can hopefully fit, but in the meantime we'll be buying a different brand grind and brew coffee maker because who doesn't need their morning coffee? ... show more

Perfect for our needs! A step up from our old drip coffee maker. We like the grind feature and no more paper filters.

  • Needs a filter option!
Style: 12-Cup Coffee System
Very Good coffee maker. Definitely can make some strong coffee! Easy to figure out controls and settings. Only down fall that we have is you get grounds in the bottom of decanter when using the build in grinder. Only way to use a paper filter is to use pre-ground coffee, put filter in basket and turn off grinder. We'll keep thinking of ideas and work arounds! ... show more

  • Horrible in every way. Deeply regret this purchase.
Style: 12 Cup Programmable
We purchased this in April of 2023. It has never worked well, and as of April 2025 we are looking for a replacement. Edit: I forgot to mention the reason we are looking to replace it: now, almost every day, the pot is leaking water. It's not spilling coffee. The clean fresh water is puddling from somewhere under the pot. We aren't spilling it and we can't figure out where, how, or why it is leaking. We are looking to replace it before we get electrocuted from a plugged-in appliance sitting in a puddle of water. (See photo. We filled the pot to "10" but when it brewed, it only filled to "6". The rest pooled under the coffee maker and completely soaked a kitchen towel to dripping.) We previously had a Black & Decker coffee maker for years. The design has significantly changed. 1. The body of the coffee maker wraps around most of the carafe. This directs all the steam up the middle of the front of the coffee maker, causing the following problems: A. The steam messes up the coffee maker's computer and turns it off in the middle of brewing or sometimes afterwards so you find the whole coffee pot has gone cold. B. The "stainless steel" buttons on the front are silver plastic that quickly became completely stained brown from coffee steam. This cannot be cleaned. (See photo) 2. The design of the coffee basket is AWFUL. A. The handle of the basket always gets snagged up when we are disposing of the filter and flips soggy coffee grounds all over the floor and trash can. B. If you remove the handle to avoid this, you can't remove the basket from its' place. We tried that and had to put it back on. C. The filter's pace of dripping the coffee into the pot doesn't match the machine's pace of putting hot water into the filter basket. So the filter gets super full, and grounds always go up and around the filter and end up in the coffee pot. Yum! D. The "sneak-a-cup" technology is a little silicone washer/seal that holds the coffee in the basket when you remove the carafe if it is still brewing. This has disappeared during normal washing, twice. So now the coffee just freely pours out if it is not completely done brewing. Don't buy it. Find something else! ... show more
