  • Good homeowner floor scrubber...
BiSSEll BigGreen BGFS5000 Portable Two Brush Floor Scrubber & Polisher Given so many low customer ratings for this machine, we were apprehensive about buying one. As it turned out, our machine has none of the problems cited by so many others. Perhaps Bissell’s Chinese manufacturer redesigned a few parts to work better? - machine is a virtual clone of the Sears floor cleaner that we owned and loved for 25 years (which eventually failed – and no parts are available for it). - the brand new BFGS500 arrived fully assembled with all parts (all of the listed pads and the pad clips). There’s nothing to do except remove the plastic wrap and cardboard – and use it. - these new models no longer require a customer to install a “switch box” that so many complained about. An on/off switch is built-in. It’s only one speed, but we only used “high” on that old Sears scrubber. - the 8-notch brushes snap (with a firm push) securely onto the hub at the machine’s bottom. For spare stiff brushes, search Amazon on “Koblenz 6 Inch Scrub Brushes with 8 Notch Hub 4502332" - the liquid container on our machine is fine. It doesn’t leak and it snaps into the machine’s chrome post, lining up perfectly with the slot on the open-close controller. - the 35' cord should be sufficiently long for most jobs – it’s almost too long for us. - we bought it to clean our Azek deck – much easier than cleaning by hand. - negatives ... some of the plastic parts should be thicker / stronger – such as the green liquid container cover (reads “Heavy duty - commercial”) – that part is fragile. ... machine will tip over backwards, so it has to be held onto or rested on something. ... OK for occasional homeowner use, but no way is this a “commercial” quality machine. It wouldn’t last. ... avoid buying a “used” machine. New is better, will have fewer issues, and will last longer. ... show more

  • Replacing an old friend, Minus 1 Star to Prime 4-5 Stars to the Scrubber!
Well lets cover various ponts! 1-Delivery Way before the Covid-19 issue Amazon Prime is purposely delaying all Prime packages at least 10 days before initiating the order fulfillment process to all orders from Puerto Rico! I did order this scrubber on August 3, 2020 and it was delivered on August 23,2020. Almost 21 days when in the states would have been delivered on August 8,2020. Hey every night around 12:30 AM Prime Air lands a 737 full of cargo in SJU international Airport in Puerto Rico. Simply put, Amazon is delaying Prime service to Puerto Rico. 2-The Scrubber came with 2 sets of different brushes, 3 sets of different pads. 35 ft. of cable and works great. It arrived fully assembled. 3-Proven design. To my surprise it is exactly like my 30 year old scrubber bought from Sears, see picture. With Sears I tried to get a replacement dispenser canister that was not "available" to my surprise it is still manufactured. Both machines are made by the same manufacturer, Koblenz. The differences? The new one is a Commercial Model double insulated OSHA compliant, single speed. The old Scrubber has three speeds , that and the cable are the only differences. 4- Use- This scrubber is used to clean, scrub and polish 50+ year old Terrazo in 2600 sq. ft. home. Based on previous experience with the old model, I believe that I can recommend the vastly improved new model. ... show more

  • What a relief
I have all white tile on my floors. Very hard to keep the grout nice and clean . Cleans GREAT and is fast and easy to use. This has a good weight for use, and the brushes do a great job. Only complaint is that the trigger attachment to regulate the flow of cleaning water has to be Checked regularly it is poorly made and will allow a leak or wont dispense properly. Not that big of a deal once I identified the reason for the problem I was having. ... show more

  • It cleans the floor well however some small glitches.
I had to silver solder the button on the shaft that operates the reservoir valve (fell off during shipping) and replace the feed tube from the reservoir to the rotary brush housing, not the correct non-kinking hose required for application). Now I can use the machine. I don't know what they put the money into @ $300, hopefully these are industrial motors. Another issue is that you cannot leave the machine sit with water in the reservoir to take a break, apparently the feed valve leaks by and eventually it will bleed off the entire reservoir. So, to resolve this issue you have to empty the reservoir before shutting the machine down. On the up side the machine is runs strong, minimal vibration and feels solid while cleaning and does a good job cleaning the floor, hence 4 stars. ... show more

  • Just so you know -- it's a mixed bag
A little background: We moved into a home that has a large kitchen floor of rustic travertine marble in a light ivory/beige color with a rough textured surface. Decor considerations aside, this floor is a serious dirt magnet and whatever gets on it seems to be absorbed into its porous nature. So, I have a cleaning issue on my hands. I have tried everything I can think of including professional tile cleaning and sealing.(Yes, that worked but within a relatively short time, and despite my continued efforts to try to keep the floor clean , the tile looked dirty and dingy once more. Professional cleaning is costly and would need regular maintenance appointments. Not ideal. Meanwhile, I've used steam cleaners, rotary mops, the old fashioned scrub brushes on the worst parts, and every touted cleanser I could find. As a last ditch effort before tearing up and replacing the floor entirely, I bought the Bissell BigGreen. Pros: It works! Oh the joy of it!!! The sudsy water left on the floor was not only filthy, but muddy. The coir bristles got into the nooks and crannies of the tile. No other product or appliance that I've previously used produced such a thorough result (with the exception of the wire brushes used by the professional tile cleaners). Cons: 1) The remaining dirty sudsy water is left on the floor. There is no suction or dirty water reservoir on the machine. What a new mess! This is a big negative for me. It means one has to get out the hand mop and bucket and get back to work to clean up the mess left by the Bissell. I can appreciate irony as much as the next person, but now, I had two big cleaning jobs on my hands instead of one. 2) The clean water/detergent tank leaks. A lot. I don't know why. After it literally emptied its contents on my floor and necessitated another major cleanup, I did a thorough examination of the tank and couldn't see an obvious problem. The next time I used this machine, I put only a small amount of water in the tank to see if I would have another repetition of the flooding problem. Oh, it still leaked but not so dramatically. I also have placed the machine on a silicone pet mat when storing the unit AND I empty the tank before replacing it for storage. 3) This is a heavy and powerful machine for its size. That is both a pro and a con. It gets the cleaning job done in a way that a lighter machine might not be able to accomplish -- but some people might find it difficult to control. Overall, I would think a 2 1/2 star rating is fair, even though I'm delighted with the machine's ability to scrub. The other clean up issues and the leaky tank really reduce its rating for me. ... show more

  • Floor scrubber
I ended up sending this back. The machine does not stay up by itself, its heavy and just did not do the job i expected it to do. I have had Bissell products before but this one just did not stand up to the job.

  • Do not buy unless you are a masochist
It was very poorly designed. It had no balance to it. You cannot leave it sitting upright without a draft, knocking it over. Trying to slip the top that goes over the tank was also not easy. Had to totally stay with it to get the sprayer to work. The only good thing about it is that it was powerful enough to clean the floors. But you also have to have a bucket and a mop to clean up the dirty water, cause it does not suck up the dirty water. I had bought it because it had the name on it. I’ve had many Bissell products that have been good. I don’t know who approved of this and then had trying to make it but it’s a disaster and not worth the money you paid for it. ... show more
