I’ve been eyeing this product since their Kickstarter campaign but saw it on sale and finally pulled the trigger. I love how many ways to mount it there are. At first I had it hanging out back but the squirrels had some solid vantage points and the seed went everywhere. I ordered a pole and seed catcher to put it out front and works great. The suns strong enough that most days it’s gaining power more than using - that’s with 2k ultra video. Easy to clean and seems fairly sturdy. The app is really nice, easy to use and navigate. Membership is pretty essential which understandably might bother people. I knew it going in and don’t mind. The app itself is nice, postcards send often but you can control how often in settings. One con is the hopper to hold food is small so you might have to refill often depending on how many birds are in your area. Pretty cool there’s a big community to share with and have even seen some cool mods to add on to the device. Update: it’s been about a month having this and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s so awesome waking up to all the different birds. I’m going to get one as a gift for my mom too.

When I was offered the opportunity to create UGC content for the Bird Buddy, I honestly couldn’t contain my excitement! I absolutely love birds, so getting to photograph and film one of these smart bird feeders felt like Christmas morning. We’ve lived in Nebraska for several years after moving from Colorado, and one of my favorite discoveries has been the Baltimore Orioles. I had never seen one before moving here. Someone told me if I put out grape jelly, they’d come…and were they ever right! Every spring I go through what feels like a whole case of grape jelly as they flock to the feeders and squabble over who gets the next bite. It’s better than watching television! I also love our hummingbirds. We usually have four of them every year, and it’s so much fun watching them zoom around, hover in midair, and chase each other away from the sugar water. Then there are the little House Wrens that return to the same birdhouse year after year. They even used to dive-bomb my husband while he sat on the porch smoking. I guess they had a strict “No Smoking” policy around their home! 😂 The Bird Buddy has made birdwatching even more enjoyable. The app sends me notifications whenever a bird visits the feeder, identifies many of the birds, creates daily highlight reels, and even gives you a recap of the day’s visitors. One of my favorite features is being able to check in while I’m away from home. I recently visited Colorado and could still watch the birds stopping by my feeder. I also enjoy browsing videos from other Bird Buddy owners around the world. Some have squirrels, woodpeckers, and other visitors. I’m secretly hoping a squirrel decides to stop by mine someday! The solar roof has been fantastic. After the initial charge, I haven’t had to recharge it at all. Even through cloudy days and rainstorms, it has kept itself powered. We even had a pretty nasty hailstorm, and thankfully the Bird Buddy came through without any damage. Assembly was straightforward, and it even includes a scoop that makes filling the feeder with seed much easier. I chose to mount mine on a pole, so I purchased the pole adapter separately. The only downside for me is the subscription. I understand why it’s offered because of all the AI features and cloud storage, but it would be nice if there were a few more features included without the added cost. Even so, it hasn’t taken away from how much I enjoy using it. If you’re someone who loves birds, enjoys nature, or simply wants a closer look at the feathered friends visiting your yard, I highly recommend the Bird Buddy. It has brought me so much joy already, and I know I’ll be enjoying it for years to come. Now all I need is a Bird Buddy made especially for Orioles…and maybe one for hummingbirds too! Until then, I’ll happily keep watching my backyard visitors one notification at a time

Biggest problem, this company is disreputable and tries to lock you into unneeded subscription services. Check out BBB’s website and read the comments. Next, the app interface is not designed around your feeder, your yard, or your birds but instead favors and pushes the company’s entire birding user base on you instead. It’s more of a social media company than a bird enthusiast company and so the goal seems to be an attempt to get you to spend more time in the app socializing about birds so they can mine data and monetize you in other ways. It should be about your backyard more, not all this other needless stuff. The camera itself is okay but you won’t really know because while you may see tons of activity at your feeder the AI software filters out all the ones it thinks are bad quality photos and you end up with a tiny population compared to the activity you observe. Versions where you have a generic camera snapping hundreds of photos and videos gives you more to look at from your feeder the/backyard. There are also design flaws around the feeder itself, specifically with the lid and filling it up. It’s almost designed with a desire to never fill it up or was designed by someone who never ever tried to use it. If you attempt to use the hook to hang it, the lid doesn’t fit well or smoothly. Then, filling it is a chore because you need to pop the lid off entirely because there is no proper fill spout. There’s a door on the back that opens and closes but the lid and hook are in the way constantly. Once, you get it full you then need to reinstall the lid which is a hassle b/c things don’t line up well and again, the hook is in the way. Most importantly, this product is comparatively way too expensive for what it actually is - a bird feeder. You’re 100% paying for an app and software ecosystem and it’s clear the company does not care about birds, birding, or the non-software user experience. BirdBuddy intentionally makes it meaningfully difficult to not automatically sign up for the paid monthly subscription. If you buy this, just wait and see, you’ve been warned. There is no skip subscription button, no sign up later, nothing.

I purchased the Bird Buddy Pro Solar as a gift for my mom, and I couldn’t be happier with both the product and the experience. The feeder itself is well-designed, easy to set up, and the camera quality is excellent. The solar roof works great, and I love being able to watch the birds through the app. What really impressed me was the Birdbuddy support team. I had several questions before and after purchasing, and every person I spoke with was patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. They made the whole process smooth and stress-free. I just got my first bird visitor and uploaded a short video with this review. It’s been exciting to see it in action already! I got this almost a year ago for my husband's birthday to go in the yard of our new house. This was the first video bird feeder we tried out. We did not get any of the subscription plans offered. It was almost two months before it even began taking pictures. We live across the street from a city park in Florida and expected more than the occasional Mourning Dove that showed up. Even when the doves showed up, it rarely took video. Often, when it did take a video, it would identify multiple different birds that never showed up. We had kept the camera on frenzy mode and would be lucky if we got a few "postcards" per week. While the AI obviously cherry-picked (terribly) what it processed, the identification was free and did not require a subscription. The system has since updated and all the things that enhanced it compared to some other camera apps are now limited or require payment altogether. We gave it a year since it takes some time for birds to adjust to a feeder location. The camera is now most definitely in a high traffic bird area and gets maybe 5 or 6 poorly framed videos all day. In comparison There are 15 other feeders on the property, two of which face the Birdbuddy, that get a minimum of 50 videos in the same space of time. On the plus-side, it keeps a good charge, even after a year in the Florida weather. The general interface with the app is decent. If you have the budget for the app, it has an interesting set-up as a bird based social media network. It is only Alexa-enabled when you have a paid option. It is one of the easier ones to fill and keep clean and doesn't take a bunch randomly triggered videos. i.e. Vehicles and people walking by. The portrait orientation of the camera makes it great to watch on cell phones and some tablets, but a bit annoying on devices that do better in landscape mode. If you aren't generally tech savvy, this is a good starter feeder. There aren't a bunch of annoying ads and upgrade requests to confuse you. It also includes pole mount, wall mount, or hanging adapters that many feeders don't always have. The built in panels make it easier to put up and there are no random wires hanging everywhere. If you are a 3D printing fan, a majority of bird feeder related prints are accessories geared toward this feeder. I gave it 4 stars because for the right person, this is an excellent choice. It was my gateway bird feeder that has inspired me to be more serious about them overall. It's definitely not 5 star perfect, but it has the best overall user interface. Especially if you are a casual bird observer and don't need a full cloud service and don't want to deal with memory cards.

We. Love. Our. Birdbuddy. And so do the local birds! We had no idea just how many different species of bird we had until we got this. I also had no idea how heckin' dapper the tufted titmouse is until I was able to see one 'up close' with the Birdbuddy! Picture quality is good, battery lasts a while most times of the year, except it struggles a little in Maine in the winter, but that's to be expected from anything solar charged/powered here during mid-winter. The clear plastic in the back yellows and gets brittle with time, just like every other bird feeder, but the rest of it is holding up surprisingly well. I have it up on a pole and I accidentally dropped it from about 5-6 feet up onto a wooden deck. There was minor damage to that back piece, but nothing that prevented continued use. Filling is easy, but be careful closing the top: the whole back section is able to be slid up and removed, so if you lift too hard when closing the door, it can lift the panel and spill the seed. Once that happens, you basically have to empty the feeder to get the door back in place because the seeds get in the way. Easy to avoid, just something to be aware of. The hanger wire is a little stiff to install, but that's not a bad thing - you don't want it to come undone accidentally or in the wind!
