  • Ok but has some issues...
This is a very solid, heavy duty gun safe. It's heavy, well painted (more like powder coated), and is smooth opening. It opens by finger print, numerical code entry, or key access. Programming both the finger print reader and code entry is super easy. I added multiple finger prints and they all verified fine. The door closes flush and tight. The safe is spacious, easily able to put in two handguns with extra mags, of course this does depend on the size of the guns of course. Where I have issues though is: 1) There's a little on-off switch on the side and I can't figure out what its used for. It doesn't stop a code or finger print from being entered, or programmed, nor does it turn the light off inside (which turns off by itself), it doesn't affect the key use or door opening. If this has a function, I haven't seen it, but also haven't missed it apparently as everything works normally regardless of the position of the switch. 2) The manual states that the key can not be removed after opening the safe (while it's still open that is). This is to prevent you from accidently locking the key in the safe. If something happens to the electronics, you're going to need the key to get in. This is not the case with mine. It can be opened with the key and the key can be pulled right out. That'd be a nice feature to have working but, also not critical if it doesn't. 3) Though the lid and side walls fit very flush together, it would not take much effort to slide a knife in between the lid and the side walls and pry up enough to get a pry bar in there. I don't think you'd get it open wide enough to pull a gun out but if you had jewelry or something small that could be pulled out, I think someone might get to that. To make a design recommendation here, there should be flanges on both surfaces that cause the surfaces to be sort of interlocking. 4) The lid is quick to pop up when opened but it only goes about half way (like 45 degrees or so) before it stops. Maybe the little opening strut needs some oil or something. 5) Lastly, sometimes when I go to close the safe, it won't lock in place. I have to "open" it again by fingerprint or code and then it closes ok. This is weird and I don't have any idea what's causing this. I can't tell the difference from when it opens normally and when it opens in such a way that it won't lock closed. Thankfully it's not occurring regularly and doesn't cause a situation where it seems like it's closed but it's not. When it won't lock closed, it pops right back up. So it sounds like there's a ton of problems, and yeah I listed a few, but over all, these aren't show stoppers. As long as it opens when I need to access it quickly, I can work with it. But... I can't give this more than three stars, particularly when this safe seems to be at the higher end of the price range for similar models. ... show more

  • With this safe, I am put at ease…
The media could not be loaded. I have never owned a gun safe before, but I have to say this one is really sleek, and extremely easy to set up and use. It fits two pistols very nicely, and even has room for extra clips. I absolutely love that it can be opened from the keys, or the code, or fingerprint. If the batteries fail then you have the key for back up. It’s thin enough it slides right into my nightstand drawer, and I think it’s reasonably priced for what it offers! I have children, and they have been taught gun safety, but we still like to keep our firearms secure. The fact that it locks up so nice keeps our guns out of the wrong hands. It’s really simple to use even if you’ve never used a fingerprint/code safe before this one is extremely easy to use. You’re allowed one code, but up to 32 fingerprints stored, and it comes with two keys! It’s very very heavy, and made from durable metal, and would not be easily broken into, if at all. This safe is necessary if you own firearms. It can also be used for other valuables too, like jewelry, or money or even important documents. I am confident that this safe will keep our firearms secure, and will be very easy to use between my husband and I! ... show more

  • Solid safe except for a defective lid that potentially allows access. Very dangerous.
The media could not be loaded. Going to start off by saying this thing weighs a ton. As a safe should. I was immediately impressed when taking it out of the box and opening it up with the key because even the internals are steel. I have a more expensive brand where a lot of the internal structure is plastic. I was also blown away by how well the finger print scanner works. I always struggle with finger print scanners due to years of abuse to my fingers and now probable perfusion issues due to diabetes. No issues here. The finger printer scanner literally took seconds to set up and worked just about flawlessly. Same thing goes for combo keypad. Worked like a charm with the simple test numbers used for the demo video and piece of cake to reprogram afterwards. Outstanding printed instructions. Now the trouble begins. Watch the video and take a look at the pics. You really have to slam the lid closed and even then there are very serious concerns. As you will see, there is a noticeable raised seam on the left of the safe lid that is not present on the right side. That raised seam is present even when successfully locked. You'll see that sometimes when I closed the safe under normal force, the safe did not properly lock and could be bounced or pulled open. Extremely dangerous if you're not paying close attention when you close this thing and have little ones in the home. This safe would be a no question 5 star rating but a dangerous flaw that easily allows unauthorized access dumps this thing to one star and that saddens me because it's an otherwise impressive safe and I really like it. Safety is number one. This could simply be an issue of a single defective item and all the rest are perfectly fine, but as the one in my possession currently stands, one star with the potential to be a perfect five if it had proper lid closure. ... show more

  • This works okay, but comes with inconveniences
When I first took this out of the packaging, I noticed a small amount of damage to the back corner of the safe (scratched with rust). In trying to open the safe, I had some difficulty with the key - but with enough force, the safe opened. The instructions on the back of the box were adequate. The overall quality of the safe is average at best - you can tell this is not a cutting edge model. The fingerprint option worked fine and was easy to set up, as was the password function. After completing the setup, when I attempted to close the safe door, it would not close completely. It took several minutes of tinkering before I realized that you had to apply sufficient force right in the area of the locking mechanism to get it to properly close. Last to note is when the safe door is opened, it opens pretty violently, so be prepared if it is not screwed or bolted down. For the $80 asking price, I do not feel it's worth that amount of money - better off spending a little more for something you don't have to baby and mess with in order to use. ... show more
