  • What a project putting this together.
I rarely write reviews but thought this purchase worthy of one. I would have rated it one star but it works and doesn't take up much space. First -- 3.5 hours putting it together and disposing of the packing. You probably could have dropped it from 10 feet while in the box without damage so very good here. 100 pounds I believe. Sort your screws carefully before assembling. Don't let anyone help you do this. Instructions were cumbersome to read and I found out no engine manual like it said it had in the box. Two places to put oil in. One without a dipstick. Frustrating until I found the second one with a dipstick. Trying to start it even warm requires the choke to be applied. Very heavy pull on the starting rope. I think it is because it has to spin the knives also. 7+ horse so size may be a factor. I am anticipating my back getting thrown out because of this. So far I have used this for about 4 hours and seems to run OK. 3 inch intake so don't count on running trees through it. I find I still have to take heavy branches to tree dump. Loud. I am keeping this but not impressed. I bought this in lieu of renting a 7" inch capacity - tow behind my truck for $350.00 a day. With work I think I will break even dollar wise with the little stuff in my forest. It is heavy but the wheels are large enough to let it push around my yard somewhat easy. Do try to find one that you can try out before buying this. No experience with changing or sharpening the knives yet but I suspect it won't be fun. ... show more

  • Powerful engine
Very able chipper with an engine more powerful than most other chippers. The chute designed for small branches a s shrub tends to occasionally eject debris. Eye protection is essential. Consider a face shield as those small pieces tend to sting or could draw blood. Using the supplied bag to collect the chips makes cleanup easier BUT you must constantly make sure that the debris chute does not clog. It will. Without immediate clearing the chute, chips and twigs will jam the blades and stop. Clean out will kill 20 minutes for downtime. The transport handles are painful to use. They are oval cut outs from the sheet metal so gloves are required. The rocker switch to kill the engine doesn’t always work. I will request a new switch. This machine will work hard and produce great ground cover, soil amendment (after composting) or a way to rid the yard of prunings into your yard waste containers. With over 200 trees that constantly drop branches and many shrubs, this machine will be a necessary end step to my yard waste. In 2024, Californian will no longer be allowed to burn prunings in order to deuce air pollution. The Well-Built is not perfect but still a great solution to giant branch piles for burning or stuffing clippings, twigs and branches into a yard waste container. ... show more

  • BILT HARD 7.5HP 224cc chipper delivers.
I went through a ton of reviews on wood chippers/shredders in this price range and ended up purchasing the BILT HARD 7.5HP 224cc chipper. Keep in mind this review is first impressions as the machine is new. I have no idea on the longevity of this machine. Assembly instructions were easy to understand and the assembly was a breeze. Starts up on first pull of the pull cord. Simply place the switch to on, choke lever to choke, and turn gas lever on and pull. once it fires, place the choke lever in the opposite position (choke off) Appears to be sturdy and I was able to accomplish 2 large piles on 1 tank of gas, so it seems to sip gas which is quite nice. Handle everything I tossed at it as long as I kept to the recommendations. (doesn't handle vine like debris well, which it stated that, so expectations were set correctly. Additionally, it handles relatively straight pieces best (A 3" thick branch that has a large crook or V isn't going to work smoothly, so patience should be expected and cutting off kinks like that is best. The shredding of fresh wood was not optimum, and you are better served with dry wood. Keep in mind this is not a commercial machine so expectations should be set at yard clean up and perhaps lighter forestry. So far I'm please with my purchase. I doubt any of the other machines at this price point would offer commercial grade chipping as well. My hope is that I'm still happy with this purchase over time. Bottom line follow the recommendations, understand it's not a commercial machine and treat the machine properly and first impression is it will last. ... show more

  • Du Du Group, Inc. is literally the manufacturer
Aside from crude humor, it's really good at what it does. There's a learning curve if you've never used one of these before, so you will need to break down large complicated branches with pruners or a saw before you can feed them through the chipper. Pros: 1. Powerful. Once you get the hang of using it, it will chip any branch you throw at it. 2. Makes great woodchips. Almost playground quality when you're using thick branches. 3. Assembly was great with good instructions and really, exceptionally well labeled hardware. Cons: 1. LOUD. Be warned, you will wake up the entire block with this thing. 2. Sketchy. It can pull branches in with a lot of force and violence. I'm sure this is the same with all chippers, but you really need to be careful when you're using this thing and don't do it while you're home alone. 3. If you somehow manage to stall it with a big branch, you will probably have to take it all the way apart to clear the blockage. This is a major pain. 4. The bolts they ship for assembly are really cheap, and I managed to snap one off. ... show more

  • Rugged, well built.
This is not a "toy". It makes quick work of grinding/chopping. Safety equipment is a must (gloves, boots, hearing protection, and meshed full face shield). If it clogs up in the chopper blades it's a challenge to remove all the bolts.
