  • A Few Mods Turn This from OK to Great (Here's How)
After reading a bunch of reviews about other people's experiences, I purchased this fireplace with the intent of making some modifications. Here is what I did to it which greatly improved the quality of this product. 1. Replace the wheels with STEEL wheels, these will not melt. Buy the Arnold 7" wheels and they fit perfectly (http://www.amazon.com/Arnold-Steel-Wheel-lb-Load-Rating/dp/B000VO6SJC) 2. Use high temperature spray paint on the inside of the lid, the inside of the bottom bowl, and both the inside and outside of the screen. I used black so I could not only tell where I had and hadn't sprayed, but it also looks much better. 3. C-Clamps: The screen just rests on the bottom bowl, which can shift during use. Take 2 C-clamps (http://www.amazon.com/Tools-QUICK-GRIP-C-Clamp-4-inch-225104/dp/B0000CCXVT/) and break off one piece of the screen so it fits at the bottom of the screen. Do this across the bowl so the two are directly across from each other and away from the doors so you can still open them. This not only makes it easier to wheel around but also give you peace of mind. It is amazingly solid after putting these clamps on. 4. Put gravel at the bottom of the bowl - bigger gravel chunks is easier to handle and stays cooler than sand or cat litter. Make these 3 modifications and don't leave it out in the rain and this fireplace will last a long time. ... show more

  • Cheap and unsafe
Horrible! I bought it thinking it was just like what I had before. Very cheaply built as well as materials. Not easily transported as handle is too short. Haven’t used it hardly at all for that reason. Then today it burned the ground catching the yard on fire. I can not recommend this product. Don’t purchase it’s a waste of money. ... show more

  • Did not even withstand one time use
I bought this product on Dec 5th 2018 used it on Dec 8 2018 for ambiance and warmth at our holiday party. As I was putting it together it felt cheap and I was uncertain about using it. But as the night got colder I decided to put this product to use and test it out. After cleaning up and disposing of the ashes I have come to realize that wood fire pit did not even withstand a single nights use. As of now I do not recommend this project to anyone as it could become very dangerous. The metal grill at the bottom warped from the fire. It melted the plastic wheel. It also melted paint from the lid as well. Because heat makes metal expand it also cause the prefabricated hinge rivets to become loose. ... show more

  • Not Like It Use To Be!
Purchased the same fire pit around 20 years ago. Was so happy to find the same pit again - as after 20 years ours was looking pretty beat. When we received the box my husband said this can't be the same .. this box is so light! They cheapened everything! The lid on our old pit ... was sturdy and heavy... this lid you could flex!! The grate on the bottom look like a cheap grill grate. The wheels would never withstand heat ... these are cheap plastic! I would have rather spent another $50.00 on this pit if they just would have just left it the way it was! Don't waste your money. This will never last... so disappointing! ... show more

  • If you live in the woods and don't have a ...
If you live in the woods and don't have a large and capable chipper, this is the solution you need for keeping your place clean. I cannot imagine the tonnage of brush, sticks, branches, and more that I have eliminated with this bon fire. In season my bon fire is used most weeks. I do not use a cover, but do store it in a way to minimize rusting and I get about 5-7 years of heavy use out of these units. Portable and capable of handling a reasonable amount of debris/wood at a time - very handy to have around! ... show more

  • Nice item, just be ready for some building pains.
This little fireplace looks nice and works well, but I downgraded it some just because its a pain to build. First, the biggest problem for me is the quality control--there was a hole missing on the gray part that was needed, so I had to mess around drilling a hole through the pretty thick metal sides. This added 20-30 minutes to my building time. Also, all of the gray metal sides come mostly flat in the box. So, as part of the setup, you have to bend the sides and screw them together. That's a pain (having the sides form a nice circle without bending would be a nice touch, but would require a little bit deeper box). Then, one of your last steps, you have to fit the metal, lopsided round gray sides into the perfectly round base and screw it in. It takes some finagling to get it into the base, it pops out a million times (having someone else help hold it in place might be good) then you have to screw it in. While you're trying to get it into the base, its scratching it, making some potential rust areas. However, I took the advice of another reviewer and I bought some high heat black spray and I sprayed the base and I also covered up the areas that I scratched while trying to build it (also made some scratches trying to get the wheels on, which was another pain. But, its done and it does look/work nice. ... show more

  • Whew!
Well, this took me 4 hours to put together. Their instructions were o-kay. I put the panels together wrong, so had to undo and put them in the right order. This is where their instructions could be clearer. They could be a little more generous and give you extra screws, washers, and nuts. Luckily I had some in the garage. I haven't use it yet, but if you read the "fine" print you are not supposed to put anything in it but hard wood. You can't start a fire without paper. So I don't know why. It's not the best materials. But I hope its last at long as the last one. That is the best fireplace. I've had it over 20 years and I don't know what the brand is now. Unfortunately. ... show more
