I've worked probably a total of about a year at places where I used a deli slicer every single day. The slicers I would use at work (like port of subs or another local deli) were always much more expensive than this, but I'll say this is a lot of bang for your buck. Some other cheap home slicers have too much flex, giving you uneven slices - this one is very sturdy. Some don't move the blade fast enough, but this one does. I'd say a slicer of this quality is typically more than five times the price, and maybe twice the size. I just received this slicer a few days ago, but I've used it now for thin sliced deli meats for sandwiches, thicker slices of ham for frying, and now steaks. I just cleaned it for the first time and it's as convenient as a commercial quality slicer for cleaning. Also I sharpened it, not because it needed it but just to find out what that's like, and it's very convenient. I'm not disappointed by the motor, it moves the blade fast enough to where I don't feel I need to push hard to get things cut right. The blade is a small diameter compared with commercial quality slicers, but I can slice a half-ham with no problem. The trade off for the small size is it's small enough to store in my kitchen cupboard, and it's light enough to move around the kitchen with ease, for me. Maybe for a smaller person it might be hard to move around, it does have some heft to it. Overall if you're looking for a slicer for your home kitchen, the redline 250 is kind of an investment, but I feel confident it will last me a lifetime and I can't see anything a commercial slicer has that this one doesn't, except for the smaller size. If you aren't expecting to slice really large meats, this is probably what you want. ... show more

    • Beautiful product, but quality control is suspect.

I had to send the first one back due to the the slide grinding on something. Box was in perfect condition but the bottom of the slicer was bent. I waited a month to get another one. This one is much better, nothing bent, I think. The food deflector that goes behind the blade rubs the blade when fully installed. I’m not sure what the culprit is. But the cost of these there shouldnt be any issues. ... show more

Cleaning the product is easy and it slices very precisely all of the meats that I normally eat. Today my Berkel slicer arrived! I was surprised by how soon it arrived, because Amazon had told me that it would take more days to arrive. So here goes an extra point for the fast shipping. I am super excited! The first thing I liked was the color, I was hesitant on which color to choose after much thought I decided… it was black, it is elegant and original, it goes perfectly with the atmosphere of my kitchen, I see it a lot as a decorative object instead of a tool! The same day I took it out of the box and started to slice, it's super quiet, and the size is perfect. I sliced octopus to make carpacho, different kind of cheeses and ham. Something that I realized is that it can help a lot for the economy of the home because you can buy the chunk of cheese or ham and then little by little you slice the quantity you need.     • Defective item. Doesn’t even start. No quality control on a premium high end product??

After thoroughly researching, I decided to buy the Berkel food slicer. I received my Berkel Red Line 250 yesterday. Plugged it in and to my surprise, it is not working. It doesn’t start. I just called Amazon and they are processing the order for a replacement unit. This equals an inconvenience of me having to take this heavy non working unit to a UPS store for return. In addition, waiting for a new unit (that hopefully works) for 3 days (not two days even though I’m a prime member). I decided to spend a thousand dollars to have a reliable quality machine and now I wonder how good they really are. The least that one can expect is quality control on their units prior to shipping them out to customers. Very frustrating. Let’s see what happens with the replacement. ... show more
