  • Excellent Value for Home Recording Studios
I replaced my existing Behringer 2031A's with these 1031A's because I use a DefTec sub and I did not think the slightly smaller woofer size in the 1031A's would make a difference. It did not. I had to replace the 2031's because either the amplifier or the signal recognition hardware within one of the speakers failed after five years of never turning them off. I was so happy and amazed at the sound of the 2031's that I had no choice but to give Behringer another shot. After all, they were 1/2 to 1/4 of the price of monitors I would have purchased. I cannot say that the Behringer monitors exhibit any definciency from JBL, GenTec, Mackie etc., but there are differences in sound that one must evaluate. I am quite pleased with the 1031A's and recommend them unless you have high quality amplification and want to use commensurate quality passive monitors. Since these are near field monitors, they do not present the spaciousness of high quality audio speakers meant to fill a large room. However, they do produce relatively high SPL's. As anyone who is skilled at recording will testify, the venue and equipment used in listening to a recording will vary significantly from the accurate sound of near field monitors. It is the experience and sensitive ears of the "mixer" who recognizes that the recordings will be heard in less than, or different than, studio circumstances and that one must set the equalization, limiters, expanders, pan, reverb and many other parameters in a compromise to attempt to please as many as possible with the sound. Often the sound is tailored to appeal to a specific age group. I highly recommend auditioning your mixes with good audio equipment in a living room environment to observe how you and others like the sound. Note why, or why not, they like the sound. However, if they do not like the music, you have the wrong audience for your music or the wrong music for your audience. Obviously, your music could never be at fault given how much you love it. It is, after all, your work and, sink or swim, you rule. Learn something from the preview. If you're really good, don't cave. You may need a more exclusive audience that only increased exposure may find. Great music is rarely appreciated initially. Mediocre music is most liked. The Behringer monitors are very accurate if one is to believe one's ears and the specific graphs of the relative flatness of performance as is documented on the individually supplied graphs of each speaker's frequency response. Behringer claims to match each speaker with close to identical performance of another that is tested under the same measured temperature and humidity and both are signed by a technician attesting to the pair's virtually identical performance. I take this with a small grain of salt, but my ears are happy. Lastly, almost all musicians over a period of time lose some of their hearing sensitivity, at least to higher frequencies. Some of this loss of sensitivity may be due to prolonged exposure to loud music or their age. Any recording monitor speakers must be evaluated in accordance with an honest evaluation of your own hearing. You must pay attention to the sound others perceive that is emanating from the speakers. Some may say it is too hot with too much sizzle, others may say it is to muffled and lacks life. Consider the source of the comments, but also consider the ability of your ears in relation to the comments your receive. Remember that people who really love music like to listen to it at more realistic sound pressure levels and unfortunately may be more likely to experience a higher degree of hearing loss than others. Do not necessarily judge your monitors based upon what you hear, take into consideration the comments of others. "You mean I can't trust my own ears?" Not completely. Mix your final version based upon the likely perception of your audience. If you are a skilled musician or composer you understand perception. The accuracy of recording monitors, so long as they deliver a relatively flat frequency response over the audible frequency range including subs, is not likely to be the most important factor in the enjoyment of your recording. The music itself is by far the most important to the minds of your listeners, but the quality of the sound as perceived by them may be the deciding factor. Sorry to go on so long. I assumed, rightly or wrongly, there may be some less experienced at recording who would benefit from my observations. Take care of your wonderful ears. They are the portal to your mind that allows you to create and record the product of your intellect and imagination. To share such is your gift to yourself and others. The Behringer 1031A's are very good monitors to connect to recording mixer equipment, computer or other pre-amped device. ... show more

  • Most accurate of the Behringer studio monitor line...all now discontinued.
I read that this model is a clone of a Genelec studio monitor. I'm not sure of that, but for the money these have been great for me. The dome tweeter is clear and clean without irritation and the bass is tight. These are fairly large and heavy. Give them time to break in for the best sound.

  • Steal of the Year !
I have used the 1030A before which was nice and bright with details, B1031A is a different Beast ! At this Price, its the Best Price/Feature Monitor out there. Its 8" Driver opens up the mid range nicely. There's also the EQ settings you can switch to balance the tone on where & How you place the speaker. Its a steal at this Price for a Pair. Behringer has done "Very Well " for this product. Am I new to monitors ??? Not at all, I have used Yamaha HS80,Wharfedale Pro Diamond Studio 8.2 Pro Active, Event ALP5 , BEH.3030A before. Currently I'm having the Beh.1031A( Steal Of the Year),Ikey-Audio 606V2( Brilliant Mid-range), Mackie MR8 MKII( Deep Bass), Dynaudio BM5A ( Nice Overall balance ). And the Winner Goes to : Beh.1031A for Price & Performance. They should sell these B1031A by the dozens and they look sexier than the KRK's. Note : If you have a good Audio Interface ( 24bit,96kHz) at least or a good CD player link to a mixer & out to the Monitors. They'll sound clear with Shinning details. GRAB 1 PAIR NOW ! ... show more

  • Ok, but not KRK
Nothing against Behringer, they've come a long way, but they need to stop ripping other companies off. They thrive on deception, pure and simple. The yellow cone is a rip-off of the KRK Rokit monitor. The Behringer is a good budget monitor but the KRK monitors destroy them in every way. You should rely on the quality of your product to generate sales, not tricking people into believing they're getting something they're not. ... show more

  • Good, but not good studio monitors
These are good speakers but when it comes to mixing high frequencies, it doesn't deliver quite so well. I mixed a song which sounded excellent on the 1031As. So I decided to give my mix a test in my car and the highs were frying my ears. Cymbals that crashed in the song overwhelmed the low frequencies so much that it completely disappeared. I couldn't even hear the artist. I had a deadline, so I did the track in my headphones. Not good for mixing if you are a music producer or recording engineer or even a bedroom hobbyist. Good for just listening records or CD collections. I love the bass of these speakers and they are good for home theaters. Hopefully Behringer improves on the design and remove the crappy tweeter and replace it with a two-way mid and high range speaker because the tweeter and woofer design really will mess up a mix. ... show more

  • Very good IF its working.
Amazon sent me a 2nd speaker with a blown tweeter. I returned both speakers to try a different brand. I went with Yamaha HS80m, but now I'm wishing I still had the perfect bass of the B1031a (Yamaha has horrible, fake bass). If you manage to get two speakers that are both working and sound similar, good for you. I'd run a bunch of tests before you keep them. The sound stage and crossover really aren't that great on B1031a, but there is something really useful here. I know the bass on it is as good as a high end sub woofer. I think its the tightest and most precise speaker under $500. I wish mine hadn't been defective. I'm not sure if I can recommend these. In some areas they blow away Yamahas. Just wish they had a more balanced soundstage and didn't send me a defective one. I think if you learned these you'd have far better mixes than HS80 or any Yamaha. ... show more

  • Now this is a serious upgrade.
I had some Samson Resolv 50A Studio monitors, and they are Great, but do not give an accurate look at what is potentially playing on everyone else's radio/stereo. I can say WOW, what a difference!!! I bought 2 (only one per order) and its a serious boon.So far, I can actually tell whats wrong with my music. I am thrilled, so yes, even though my music sounded good, I beleive these give an accurate look at what is being played. Mastering? I dont know yet, but I will be back with further use. for now though, this is a solid Buy. ... show more
