  • Better than expected
Size: SER/6800U/32G/1T
This computer is a little speed demon. I don't play computer games, but I do some video and audio editing for my wife's YouTube channel, I run livestreams for her as well and this computer has been fantastic. I personally write sci-fi and use a 3D mapping program for keeping track of real-life star systems and this computer handles that program very well. I am running three monitors with no problem. The computer was easy and fast to set up. It handles my 1Gb network very well, getting dowloads of around 850 Mbps and uploads around 950 Mbps. I'm streaming music or movies almost all day long while working and have had no issues. I will note that there can be some fan noise when I am pushing the workload, but that is going to be true with any computer. It is so small that I am able to put the computer on the backside of my desk which all but eliminates hearing the fan noise. it is never as loud as a server, so I can easily deal with it, and with a little music playing, you don't even notice it. Plenty of storage and memory for all my needs. I did add a powered USB hub to add connections for all the extra hardware I use (headphones, scan gun, printer, keyboard, mouse, external hard drive bays, thumb drives, Ubikey, GoPro, WebCam, etc). Everything has been working great and very fast. ... show more

  • Good things come in small packages
Size: SER/6800U/32G/500G
First things first, this critter is small, but they say good things come in small packages. In this case that saying is true! It measures 5x4.5x1.75 inches is really small. In that small package there are a lot of ports available. 2 USB-A 2.0, 2 USB-A 3.0, USB-C 3.2, HDMI and Display Port, and a 1 Gig Ethernet port. Inside there are 2 M.2 drive connectors that can handle 2 TB each, 2 DDR5 memory connectors (mine came with 32 GB), WiFi6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and AMD Ryzen 7 6800 CPU with built in GPU. The power brick is at the AC outlet so you need to plan for the room needed for it. This PC is my daily driver now. I added a drive so I can boot into Linux, but still have Windows for the few times I need it. This critter boots fast into either OS. It is quiet even when the fan comes on which is rare as it doesn't heat up much. The AMD chip has 16 cores/threads and beats the functionality of the computer it replaced. This is a good device that has the power to do what I need. I'm not a gamer so I can't talk to that, but it should handle most games. ... show more

  • Good machine. Simple, sleek, and functional
Size: SER5/5500U/32G/500G
This review is for the "SER5 Ryzen 5 5600H Up to 4.2GHz 6C/12T,16GB RAM 500GB SSD" model. I like it. Its small, its quiet, its responsive. The case is nice and has a pretty solid feel. It gave me no issues setting up and getting running. Nor did it have any issue when I partitioned it for a dual-boot setup with Mint Linux. I can't speak to overall capability as I only use it as an HTPC, but I certainly haven't hit any limits yet. Pros: Works as advertised. Good little machine. (that's a rare enough thing nowadays...) Cons: USB plugs are "upside down" meaning that any thumb drives have their lights facing down. Backlight on power switch is very bright. I put a couple layers of tint on it to tone it down. Wi-Fi reception seems a bit weak. My cell phone has a better SNR in the same spot. Good info to have: There's a little rubber tab coming out of the bottom. According to Beelink support, this is NOT to be removed. Its there to facilitate taking off the bottom of the case. The BIOS is very "2000's". Fully functional, but if you ever booted into the bios on your 2005 Compaq, youll be right at home... ... show more

  • My new Plex / download / media server : power and some logistics
Size: SER/5500U/16G/500G
As the streaming wars continue to heat up a casualty in the fight is the direct consumer: you and me. How many emails have you gotten that say "Hey we're going to charge you more money because we know you'll say yes lol." Since I have tons of music and shows in digital format, I wanted a way to run a plex server in my house not on an old laptop. I wanted something that was easy to use, light on power consumption, and could perform. I think the beelink does all of these. I almost went with linux but decided on Windows because I have more experience there and so many things about this were new to me that I didn't want to get overwhelmed. I think in the future I'll upgrade to a Linux version in a few years (as hardware gets better too), but currently it's more than fine. For some power notes, I see 2 watts when it's powered off completely. On start up it uses 25-45 watts, and with two external USB hard drives plugged in and it actively streaming via plex on my LAN it uses up about 25 watts. On idle, once powered up with non resource intensive things running, it's about 20 watts. I threw folding@home on and with both the GPU and CPU doing work units I'm consuming 40-45 watts. So power consumption will largely be based on what you're doing with it. I think 480 watt hours (20x24) would be a good budget number for anyone looking for that value. If you're not using external hard drives it will probably be a bit lower but I don't know how much. I think beelink makes a unit that accepts 12v vs this one that takes 19v. The AC/DC transformer (power adapter) is warm to the touch so obviously some of that power is going into the heat and conversion. This is probably information overload for many, but for anyone offgrid or otherwise miserly about their power it may be good to know. Hence why long term for me I'll probably end up with a 12v version (more efficient) and maybe Linux just because of stability and processor efficiency. But that's a personal thing, I haven't had any problems with Windows on this machine so far. I would highly recommend more memory. It came with two 8gb cards and I happen to have a spare 16gb laying around so I tossed that in and it made a HUGE difference. It seems like 16gb is about as much ram as my personal setup needed, just to run at a baseline. Opening a browser on that machine was painful. So now with 24gb it's still sucking up the 16gb but it leaves me with a ton of overhead. Logistics wise I put this small box and its two hard drives (mirrored via Windows' "Storage Spaces") right behind my laptop. My external keyboard/mouse/monitor are all on a usb hub that plugs into a USB C port on my macbook. When I want to work with the beelink I just plug the single hub connection and pop it into the front of the beelink: nice and easy. For a few hundred bucks I have a great home theater / plex server in my home that is also getting other digital media via the internet via various methods. ... show more
