We had an older, extra firm, Beautyrest "Recharge" line king mattress, and wanted to match up a new one as close to that as possible, as it was an excellent mattress and lasted many years. After some research, (actually speaking to Beautyrest at one point), we discovered that the recharge line had been discontinued and replaced by what they call the "Silver" line, and was now considered an entry level mattress, when compared to what the higher end recharge line had been. very happy that I purchased this mattress. medium firm under the pillowtop. I with a good quality 2" mattress pad makes it very comfortable for someone( a senior)with a bad back. i don't wake up with a sore back or neck ache.

This mattress is very, very firm. I love it, but my spouse says it's like sleeping on a sidewalk. So we compromised and added a memory foam mattress topper. It's still very firm, but the mattress topper makes it just a little bit more soft. For back pain sufferers like me, it is wonderful. But be aware that you very much sleep ON TOP of this mattress, and you will not sink down even the tiniest bit INTO it. If you sleep in your back like I do, it is wonderfully supportive. It might be too firm for side sleepers. Also you should know that this mattress is very heavy. But it seems to be great quality, at least so far. ... show more
