This is the third "Beats Headset" in our household. The other two are still in use, just by other members of the family. (each prior generation gets passed down/etc). But I had been using a pair of generic padded headphones while my wife was using the Beats Solo2 and recently upgraded to the Beats Solo3. I found them to be comfortable, but wanted larger ear cups since I didn't like pressure on my ears too much. So when Prime Day rolled around, I picked up a pair of these on sale. Nice. So, my impressions: Package: top notch. Typical Apple minimalism, fit and finish. The only thing I would nit pick is that the headphones were collapsed inside of the egg shaped hardshell, so one of the ear pads had dented a bit due to being constantly pressed against the inside of the arch. Not a problem, but just a nit pick. Comfort: the ear pads were not large enough to completely encompass my ears. However, they are more comfortable, for me, vs the Solo3. So definitely a plus if your head/ears are a bit bigger. This will help. Setup: Turn it on by holding down the power button... place near an Apple device, and it shows up. Accept the pairing and you're good to go. It was painless and worked just like with the AirPods. Sound quality: After having spent a good deal of time exposed to high frequency sounds(data centers) I think that I'm not a good judge of "awesome sound reproduction". The padded cups and the tweaking that Apple/Beats did definitely causes the output of the headphones to favor the lower end of the audio spectrum. So things of a strong deep thump nature will definitely be felt. The higher frequency sounds sounded alright for several of the pieces I played. The mids feels a bit muddied, but that could be due to either the heavy bass-leaning configuration or the dampening effect of the headset and the ANR. Ambient Noise Reduction: so I didn't know this, but each time you turn these on, the noise reduction is turned on by default. I had the headsets on for a while with no music playing, and wondered how to turn it on, when I read that it starts by default. You can disable it after powering it up with a double push of the power button or from the bluetooth device info screen on your IOS device. When this happens, there is a beep/tone to indicate a state change, a momentary dip in audio output from the internal change, and then all of a sudden, I heard a humming sound. I thought they were defective and then realized that it was the sound of the HVAC in the room. .... I had never even noticed it. I spent a few minutes walking around the room and seeing how it worked, turning it on and off again. Basically, it seems like it measures and figures out the frequencies of the surroundings and then counters those frequencies. There IS a noticeable drop. Box fan in one room... can definitely hear it. Turn on ANC and then it dips down to a very very quiet repeating whoosh whoosh. The music when played like this feels more like music being listened to in a quieter room. It's definitely not just white noise. Heat: I can see how the design might result in sweaty ears. :) And I don't see myself running/jogging with these. But then again, they aren't Beats Jugging Headphones. They are studio headphones. So I'll leave the running music activities to my Air Pods... and let's face it, if I'm out on the sidewalk/etc, I WANT to be aware of my surroundings. All in all, I really like them. I went with matte black mainly because it was nice and plain. Update: after a week of use, really liking this headset. I can get about three nights if sleep use out of it before needing to recharge. I think that for people who are sensitive to noise when they sleep, the ANC is great for giving you that “quiet room” experience. If you want to play a little very quiet music or white noise over the ANC, that works too. Really cool. Love not having to deal with a cord when I’m listening to music and working at my computer. Haven’t used the headset mode more than a few times, but seems okay.

First off, this review is by someone who had always used earbuds, and one pair of Skullcady Hesh 2 Wireless Headphones. This product is definitely a step up from both of those, but that is expected considering the price. But, I believe these are worth the high price. The sound is very good for casual music listening and Netflix/YouTube. I am not a fan of huge bass when listening to music, and the bass on these are not too crazy. The noice cancellation is great, but I personally rarely use it. It kills the battery much faster than when it is off(when off it lasts the 40 hours advertised, when on it only lasts 3-4 hours). It definitely shouldn’t be used when there isn’t much sound to cancel. Without the noice cancellation on, the headphones still do a good job of keeping the sound from leaking so others can hear you, and keeping you from hearing things around you. You can still hear your surroundings, but not as well. The battery outside of using the noice cancellation is amazing. I charge the headphones once or twice a week, and I use them a lot. Not only that, it only takes about 2 hours to charge from 0%! The headphones also look great, which you expect when looking at Beats, as they are a status symbol when it comes to headphones. Finally, I’ll speak on the durability. I’ve had them since November(it is February when I am writing this so I may update this in the future) and use them often, yet I have had no issues with anything breaking or malfunctioning. The closest thing to that is sometimes the headphones will be on but stop playing sound, and to fix it I just have to turn them off and back on. However, this has happened twice in the countless hours I’ve been using them. I’d recommend waiting for them to go on sale for around $280 since they are on sale for that price somewhat often. I got them for that price and am estatic with that decision. I only wish I decided to make the purchase sooner(I started considering getting these in June of last year, I just take a loooong time making expensive decisions).

I've owned multiple high quality ear buds and headphones. I've never been convinced ANC headphones were needed. Just turn up the volume. I ride BART everyday and over the last few years the train system has become more crowded and the rails even more "screechy". The average decibel level throughout the BART system has been documented at 100. Supposedly the same as a jackhammer. One cannot hold a conversation without shouting, or at least raising your voice and talking into the ear of the person you are trying to communicate with. The Beats Studio 3 passed this test with flying colors. I borrowed my sons Bose QC III's last week and they were excellent. I was able to listen to classical music in virtual peace I came close to buying the QC's. I changed up when I viewed multiple You Tube comparisons. I wanted the W1 chip and the pure compatibility with my IOs "eco-system".l (Ok I drank the Apple kool-aid, but the stuff just works!) Cutting to the chase: the Beats ANC is just as good as the Bose QC's, the Studio 3 is an excellent evolution in sound quality. I found the dynamic range to be more than acceptable. I listen to a variety of music, EDM, hip hop, folk, classical, jazz, r&b, blues....you get the picture. The controls are intuitive and easy to access. The dedicated IOs pairing is seamless and fast. The b/t range is amazing. The ANC shuts out almost everything. This morning, two teens were non-stop talking and shouting to each other during the entire ride into the city. I did not hear a thing. The ambient noise sensors seem to work. The ANC sensors does allow for just a tiny bit of the train operator's PA voice to come through, a good feature if the train operator begins screaming "Fire!! Abandon ship!". The most amazing thing, is the Beats ANC like the QC's stifled the 100 decibel scream of the BART tracks. Can't say enough about these cans. The charge should last a week assuming 1 hr each way for 5 days. They are perfect for the daily train or plane commuter who desires freedom from NOISE! The cost has also been reduced to a price point which makes more sense. Hope Bose reduces the $$ on the mildly overpriced QC IIIs. Btw, good to check the headphones for authenticity, just in case the vendor on Amazon pulls a fast one.

I’m overwhelmingly happy with these headphones. While I was hesitant to spend so much on headphones to begin with, I do think it was money well spent. I’m not anything close to a music quality expert, but the sound quality for me has been excellent, not only for music, but also for podcasts. I’m not noticing any kind of lag when using the headphones to watch videos online, and I also haven’t had any connectivity problems. The bluetooth connection is strong, even with several doors are closed between the headphones and my phone. Overall the thing I’ve been most happy with is the ability to switch between all of my apple devices without having to constantly disconnect and reconnect my headphones; the W1 chip was a major reason why I decided on these vs. Bose headphones, and it paid off. I’d say it takes maybe 1-2 seconds to switch between my phone and laptop, and the headphones do automatically connect to the last known device if they’re powered off and then powered on again. Noise cancellation has been fine, although it’s not something that’s a dealbreaker for me. I do like that you can switch noice cancellation on/off either manually on the headphones or under the bluetooth settings on my phone/laptop. Battery life has also been fine; the 22 hour prediction with noise canceling on vs. 40 hours with it off seems to be accurate, however if you’re listening to very loud music that can drain the battery faster than predicted (this is true of most headphones though). The fast charging feature works, and the overall time to completely charge the headphones is roughly 1 hour. I haven’t had any problems with using them for calls as everyone I’ve talked to on the phone can’t tell I’m using headphones, which is great. I would definitely buy these again, and I’m happy with my purchase. ** If you’re interested in checking whether your Beats are authentic (I was), download the firmware updater that’s availible at the Beats website. If your beats don’t appear when running the updater, you’ve likely got a pair of fake beats. Authentic Beats Studio3’s also has a serial number inside the slider of the right earcup; if your beats don’t have this, they’re almost guaranteed to be fake. Mine did turn out to be authentic, although I was quite sure they would be as I purchased directly from Beats through Amazon and not another seller. **

Let me start by saying that I am not an audiophile and this is an honest review from someone who needs a reliable pair of headphones for a range of day-to-day activities, which happens to include listening to music. Prior to purchasing the Studio3 headphones, I was using Apples own AirPods (v1). To replace them as a daily driver, I needed three things from a pair of headphones: 1). Better sound quality, and ANC (active noise canceling); 2). Better Bluetooth connectivity in an area where my MacBook and Mac Mini are surrounded by metal (introducing some interference); 3). Faster connection and easier swapping between devices (MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV) SOUND QUALITY I listen to a wide range of music--from rap to rock to nature sounds; as a part of my job, I'm in and out of video chats (hangouts, meet, etc). Overall, the Studio3 headphones work as expected regardless of what I'm using them for and the microphone is clear. The sound quality of the Studio3 headphones, however, is not noticeably better or worse than headphones I've used at lower price points. If you can catch a deal on the Studio3 as I did, it makes the price point a little more tolerable. At nearly $350 at the time of this review, sound quality should not be the main reason you purchase them if your use case is the same or similar to mine. BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY This is really where the Studio3 headphones shine! In comparison to AirPods and similar Bluetooth devices, Apples W1 chip is amazing and keeps you connected. With my existing setup, my Mac Mini is in a server rack made of solid steel and despite every other Bluetooth device dropping less than 10ft (3.05 m) away, thanks to the W1 chip, the Studio3 remain connected even with walls between the headset and the Mac Mini. I was able to roam about 25ft (7.62 m) to 30ft (9.14 m) before they started to drop. DEVICE SWAPPING While this is likely due to the ecosystem (Apple), the Studio3 pair near instantly with any device I've tested. While paired to my Mac Mini, I can quickly pair to my Apple TV, iPad, or iPhone in seconds. For comparison, the AirPods are quick, though seem to get "confused" in a way that prevents them from being able to do the same at the same speed. CHARGE / CHARGING The Studio3 headphones easily get me through an entire day of work and then some on a single charge, with ANC enabled. I'm a bit disappointed to see that despite Apple moving to USB-C on the MacBook, Mac Mini, and the newest iPad, the Studio3 still uses USB-A to micro USB. USB-C should be the standard on a $350+ device. Unless you have an adapter (USB-A => USB-C), you'll need another charger to charge the headphones. This is a burden honestly as it adds to what I need to carry. OVERALL The Studio3 headphones get a pretty solid 4 stars. What really prevents them from being 5-Star, in my opinion, boils down to two things: 1). Use of micro USB instead of USB-C, and; 2). The ear pads are not leather For what I need them to do, they work extremely well and beat out AirPods in every way imaginable. Yes, in comparison to AirPods, they are bulkier, though it's a small price to pay for something that works better.

I wanted to start off this brief review by stating that I wear headphones almost my entire day at work. I have owned several Beats headphones in the past and currently own also the Beats Solo 3, Solo 2, Beats X, and PowerBeats 3 models. When I heard that the Studio Wireless headphones will be including the W1 chip in the new Studio 3 models, I wanted to buy it right away. I use the Solo 3 headphones each night and keep them on my nightstand, but my one complaint is that as a person who wears eyeglasses, the on ear design hurts my ears when wearing glasses after an hour or so and I have to take them off. I've now had the Studio 3 Wireless headphones for a couple weeks now and I can say that I can wear them an ENTIRE workday (8 hours) with my glasses on and experience no discomfort. The sound is excellent and having the W1 is just amazing. The battery life with ANC on and the range included with the technology make these head and shoulders better than previous models. While you can turn ANC off and get 40 hours of battery life, I leave it on because while working the noise cancellation is worth it and 22 hours of battery life is not bad at all. The headphones come with the traditional Beats audio cable with remote and a micro USB charging cable. They are super easy to pair on iOS devices and are just a joy to use. The sound is excellent and not too over EQ'ed. I listen to podcasts more than music, but I do occasionally listen to music on them and I cannot complain about the sound.
