I was a habitual user of a french press/cafetiere. I changed to a pur over coffee maker because I found that I was getting too many coffee grounds in the coffee and as I get older these don't always agree with me. I drink coffee out of a mug and not a cup and if I want two mugs of coffee I need an 18 - 20 oz jug. This doesn't seem to be a common size and so I was glad to find this Bean envy unit. The jug is borosilicate and will not break if near boiling water is put into it. The filter and filter carrier are stainless steel. The quality is good and the silicone pad on the bottom can be removed for dishwashing. For a given coffee bean and roast the coffee is smoother than it would be from my cafetiere. The filtering is effective but not perfect. A filter paper would be better but for the wat I drink coffee the pour over filter works very well. I'm enjoying the coffee ;-) Is it perfect? Not quite. I wish I knew if I could put the filter assembly in the dishwasher. I always hand wash it but a zap in a dishwasher once in a while would be nice. The quality of the jug is very good. I just wish this was supplied with a "lid" so that I could keep the coffee in the pot warm so that the second mug is hot. Leaving the jug open cools the coffee too much. Putting the filter assembly back on is a bodge which works but I think I'm going to end up cutting a "cork" to size to supply a lid. In the end I have no real complaints. It's good quality, makes good coffee and is easy to use and clean: highly recommended.

We consume oceans of coffee over here in Crankyland, and this glass flask and stainless filter basket has worked very well for over a year. The flask can get stained in the lower chamber, and no adult in the house can get their hands in there to rub away the stain. One of our small children can, but they are not careful and tend to whack the flask against the sink - so fearing injury to flask and child, we don't let the kids clean it. We use a brush handle and wet paper towels to clean it once a month or so. I suggest cleaning the outside of the pouring lip once a week - otherwise, the flask will dribble coffee, which results in swear words being uttered. If the lip of the flask is free from coffee residue/oils, dribbling is eliminated (this works well on all the pouring lipped items in the house, just a swipe or two with a paper towel can free you from this annoying problem). The glass is advertised as being borosilicate, and it has survived a few bangs and bumps without fracturing or chipping, but we are generally careful with it. The bottom of the flask has a silicone/rubbery base, and this has held up well, prevents the flask from slipping or sliding - but I would not set it directly over flame or electric element. As we have Asians in the house, we have an electric urn that is perpetually filled with hot (208 deg. F) water, so I never have to wait for water to boil before making coffee. If I had to boil water first, this flask would not be as convenient for me, and I may use a regular drip coffee maker. The recipe that works for me is a 50\50 blend of Kirkland coffee (brown can, Columbian, ground) and Cafe Bustelo (bright yellow foil bag, expresso style, ground), use 1/3 cup measuring scoop (scraped to level full with a green resin chop stick) and flop it right into the metal filter. Dispense boiling, or near boiling water into the filter. My urn dispenses water at a rate whereby the filter is filled with water exactly when the flask is half full, then stop adding water and let the filter drain. The result is generally too strong for Wife - she adds milk, but I drink it black out of a shot glass because I'm Righteous. Not fancy, but ready in an Instant, and my mood is improved, my rather "mature" brain works quicker and better, and the days and nights seem Cheerier and less Fraught with Melancholy, Anger or Inconsolable Weeping. Add a bit of care with lip maintenance, and dribbling can be a thing of the past as well. That warrants Five Stars, according to Me! Using fresh ground beans is of course better, but this takes too much time, and the howling grinder blows my head off when I forget to switch off the hearing aids. The increase in Deliciousness is not proportional to the amount of Trouble incurred by preparing whole beans because I'm old, I don't want to diddle-daddle and wait, and the clock goes tick tick tick, and now I'm even older. Dangit, I need Coffee, like, Right Now.

But the seam of the filter started to come undone and now coffee grounds get stuck in the filter :(. BUT it’s an awesome coffee carafe, has changed my coffee game. Just sucks I need to buy a new random filter.

Pros of this product: 1) super easy to use, only took me 2x to get a superior cup of coffee and that was only because I was learning how to achieve the correct coarseness of the beans and water temp. But this maker is so easy, takes less than 5 minutes, follow the instructions and it is full proof 2) affordable and toxic free coffee maker with no yucky chemical’s pouring into your coffee. Also no electronics that can just break on you(reason #2 is why I bought this product in the first place) 3) takes up minimal space on your counter 4) Comes with a reusable coffee filter which is not only cost effective but environmentally friendly and also isn’t toxic Cons: 1) does not keep the coffee warm(I am a busy mom of two kids so this doesn’t bother me, I just throw it in my warming mug and it is fine) but if you are a hot coffee snob you will not like this 2) small coffee maker. The 20 ounce is perfect for me because I am the only one in my house who drinks coffee but if more of my family drank it, it might be kind of a pain and when I have guests I have to make more that doesn’t exactly stay warm The cons were why it got a 4/5, but overall for me, I love this coffee maker, it makes the smoothest, most delicious cup of coffee I have ever had, it is easy to store and clean, toxic free and won’t have mechanics that just break on me that require replacing. Plus they say they have a lifetime warranty if the glass breaks. I love this maker and it is my coffee maker for life! Highly recommend. I also found it worked great with my tea kettle and electric stovetop so I didn’t need to buy anything additional

This was a great purchase. It’s like going back in time! I grew up my mother making coffee like this. This works great for me, and it is not really work. I’ve noticed, that I use less coffee than in a coffee maker.
