I recently started using a magnetic yarn holder when I crochet. Bad news when I turned most of my yarn stash into balls a long time ago. This caked up my whole stash, including pretty chunky yarn, in just a few hours. Everything fits so much better in my yarn container now. I only wish the cakes were slightly tighter. 4 stars instead of 5 because there are a lot of other similar winders out there that give you more for less, but if you already have too many knitting/crocheting accessories, maybe that's a bonus feature.

I don't mind winding yarn by hand, but a cake shape is very nice to work with, so I decided to give this winder a try. Setup was painless and it's fun to see the yarn wind up quickly and neatly. I ran into a couple of snags, but it was easy to get back on track. Just be sure to feed the yarn through the guide to keep it from winding around the base. As noted, the maximum capacity is 3.5 oz, and worsted is the limit for yarn weight, so this winder isn't right for every project. However, it is handy and I was impressed with how quickly it works.

The yarn winder works as it should. It was a bit confusing at first how it went together but I got it after a minute or two of trying to comprehend what I was looking at. The yarn winder clamps onto the side of a table. You can use it to wind up yarn that your taking apart from a blanket or sweater. I like the idea of it, it is definitely a nice extra tool to have in my crafting space especially because I do crochet and this will be a lifesaver for when I have to undo things which I've had to do many times. I tested it on a small chunk of yarn I had loose laying around and it winds up easily. So really not a bad idea to have one in home. It would be cool if there was a automated one that went really slow but the hand crank one is ok, I could see you getting tired if your doing too much at once. This works though I like it.

Really like this yarn winder. I’ve used both plastic and wooden ones before, and I think I actually prefer the plastic. It attaches to the table, which makes it super easy to use. I’ve wanted one of these for ages, so I’m really happy to finally have ordered one. If you are a knitter or crocheter, you know the value and ease of yarn storage and usage in having one of these. These also make great gifts for others! Seems nice and sturdy. This should last a long time unless one of my eight grandkids decides to jump on it. ha!

Easy to use. Clamped easily to my side table. The directions included are straight forward, with drawings. It does only do 3.5 oz yarn cakes. I managed to make a larger one but then it was a challenge to slip it off when finished. Now I won’t have as many tangles while working on projects and can easily make cakes with leftovers for easier storage. Good for those who crochet, not only knitters.

This yarn winder works well. I was pleasantly surprised that it wound a larger ball of yarn than I thought it would. It clamps well to an able or a desktop as long as the table has squared edges. For rounded edges you may need to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t slip. The tightness of the wind is dependent on how taut you keep the yarn. The plastic it is made of seems pretty durable but it is sort of brittle and will crack if dropped. Make sure that you wind in the proper direction or the tiny fastener pins on the winder tube break easily. With a little care this winder does a great job.

This is my first yarn winder, in case that wasn't obvious.m from the struggle cakes I made. Definitely takes some practice to find what tension to hold the yarn at while winding it. The winder seems to be durable and solidly made. It's wasn't super noisy to use and clamped on the edge of my table easily. The handle turns easy and the yarn came off the winder smoothly. I am definitely planning on practicing a bit mote until I can make a perfect cake!
