Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. I researched covers for my Ridgeline extensively and settled on a roll-up BAK. Assembly was straight forward, directions/YT video provided me with what I needed to install it and that took me a few hours. Low profile, very secure, looks great and the only leaks I have right now are in the two back corners that don't impact anything I would have in the back. I purchased a BakFlip MX4 for my 2021 Honda Ridgeline. The first thing you will notice upon opening the box is "Made In USA" writing so I was all excited thinking this thing was going to be top quality. However, the cheap quality of the panels themselves was my first disappointment. They are not a hard, durable material with a rich black pigment which I was expecting - they are more of a flimsy styrofoam with a porous dry crackle finish. The install was straightforward although I was constantly thinking to myself, this doesn't seem like it's watertight at all. The design for the prop sticks that hold it open when folded seem to have been designed on a Friday afternoon before a holiday. All of the fasteners and seals are standard China whitebox; several pieces were broke and just plain fell off during the install; Bak Industries is sending me the replacements. There are these drain tubs that are supposed to go into drain holes which I have confirmed the Ridgeline does not have. Saying this tonneau fits a Ridgeline is a questionable statement with that as fact. I called support at Bak Industries and was told to run those into plastic bottles and empty them when they are full; I assure you that is not a joke and 100% truth. We had a good rain storm last night and sure enough the bed is full of water. It leaked it from the front seal, the side seals, and of course the drain tubes. I've ordered a tube of permatex black silicone and unfortunately will have to try and seal up this brand new tonneau cover on a new truck. I have had cheap tonneau covers in the past on other trucks and never really had a problem with leaking. This product is not something I would purchase again or recommend to family and friends. ... show more

Anyone about to get this for their Ridgeline (I have and '18) needs to know the side rails restrict how high the trunk door will lift up. Opens to where it only exposed about half the light on the sidewalls too so won't be as well lit at night. I knew this before getting it, don't think it'll be an issue for me. If you don't like that, you may want to check out the non-flush covers like the DiamondBack. Came with a small bend in a piece of aluminum that I was able to bend straight and I wish they used something other than these rubber bands (see pics) as the seals now dont sit flat (maybe they'll settle flat over time?). Installed a Pop&Lock for tailgate the same day to assure the items under this cover stay secure. Operation and installation was great; suggest searching YouTube for installation videos rather that just the documents that come with this thing. I like the finish; seems to match well. Installed in just a few hours. Good directions. Took my time and added a few additional sealing tape strips. Pretty much water tight for rain. Just a little leakage at the jet carwash. I like that the cover is almost flat and that it is secure.

It's taken me 6+ weeks of back and forth with the BAK company and now my top is finally installed. I had 2 issues with the product. Firstly, one of the rails on the installation kit was missing a seal. Their support sent me the wrong part initially, then with more clarification (pics) they were able to send me the correct part. (2 weeks lost). Secondly, I found out the rear passenger side mounting bracket did not fit my truck. I was shipped different parts no less than 4 times and none of them fit my truck. They even admitted there was a known problem with that particular part for my truck, and I had to wait for them to make some new ones.... and they still couldn't send me a part that fit after 2 more attempts. I ended up just buying a hacksaw and fixed the problem myself. See pics.... Very frustrating to spend so much time with BAK support and still not get resolution. I will say their support was always prompt and responsive.... But wish they could have just gotten it right. So warning to any 2018 Honda Ridgeline owners. You will likely need to customize this yourself as I did. After I modified the piece, my installation went smoothly for the most part. The cover does not clip in as easily as i would have hoped to, and I had to put in a couple of metal shims near the very rear of both rails to give it a solid place to press down and snap in. I gave it 2 stars, because the top seems to be good quality material. Hope this helps... ... show more

With the help of a YouTube video this is a straightforward one-person installation. Time will determine the value of this purchase, but I'm very happy with how it works and how it looks. One note for Generation 2 Ridgeline owners - with the new rails installed, the in bed trunk doesn't open fully, even with the cover folded back. But I've found that doesn't limit the usefulness of the trunk. And even with the cover in place you can still put things in the trunk with no issues. Also, I wanted to be able to lock the bed and ordered a Honda OEM tailgate lock kit on Amazon. Another easy installation. ... show more
