Description

America’s best-selling truck bed cover just got even better.Introducing the BAKFlip MX4 Gen 3—the latest evolution of RealTruck’s most popular tonneau cover. Now better than ever, the BAK has redesigned the for improved strength, security, and all-weather performance. The Gen 3 MX4 features alloy-based construction, including heavy-duty aluminum side rails and top panels, reinforced with high-density polymer cores. This updated design delivers a 22 percent increase in strength over the previous generation, making it even more capable of handling daily use, heavy loads, and harsh environments. Security has also been upgraded. BAK’s patented auto-latching system secures the cover automatically when closed. Newly engineered lock components provide added resistance to tampering and forced entry, allowing you to transport your gear with confidence. In rough weather, the Gen 3 MX4 holds strong. Revised EPDM perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps offer the best seal yet, helping prevent water intrusion along the bed rails. A longer dual-action tailgate seal weatherproofs the tailgate while preserving full functionality, whether the cover is open or closed. While the MX4 is built tough, it doesn’t compromise on looks. The flush-mount design gives it a sleek, low-profile appearance, while a textured matte-black finish across all surfaces delivers a clean, subtle aesthetic. Installation is easier than ever with a new click-in rail system that cuts install time by up to 12 percent. Day-to-day use is just as simple—drop the tailgate, unlatch, and fold the cover forward. For complete bed access, fold the cover against the cab without blocking your third brake light. The BAKFlip MX4 Gen 3 is proudly assembled in Missouri using globally sourced materials and backed by a 5-year warranty.

  • Great product

Great product, very easy to install and I really like that it opens up all the way.

  • Great fit
Style: MX4: America’s Top Seller Size: 5' 7" Bed Configuration: 2007 - 2021
I replaced my 8 year old MX4 back flip with this newer version. It fits like it should and installation was straight forward. It looks amazing and seems to be a little lighter than the older version.

  • Simply Brilliant
Style: MX4: America’s Top Seller Size: 5' 7" Bed Configuration: 2022 - 2026
Bought my 2023 Tundra seven days before leaving on a planned camping trailer trip. Ordered this cover the very same day and it came in time to install with two days to spare. Small problem though: Although the shipping box was entirely un-damaged, the very first piece that I came to upon opening the box didn't look right. It was the LH side-rail, the piece that all of the locking tabs engage. One end of this one piece is a section of the extruded aluminum channel with about 80mm left after the rest has been cut away, forming a flat, overlapping projection that lives in the vicinity of the juncture of the bed side and front. This LH piece had that 80mm or so of flat aluminum bent at more than a 90° angle. The RH side piece was perfectly flat and true. I knew that I could probably straighten out that bent end, maybe without actually breaking it off altogether but you know what it's like to bend, and re-bend thin aluminum. You can usually bend it once, even sometimes fairly extremely, but the odds of straightening it back out without seriously compromising the strength of the piece aren't great. I was able to get it fairly straight by securing one end of the piece with a real big crescent wrench while gently working with wide jawed pair of parallel pliers. When it was straight there were definitely small cracks faintly showing up on the surfaces but it was solid enough. After taking a lot of pictures to document what I'd found and done, I continued to install the cover. What a joy. Except for the fact that some of the pieces were really heavy and somewhat awkward for me to do by myself I got it done in about 90 minutes. I hadn't done enough research prior to starting this to realize that the very first instruction to "remove the existing inside bed rails, if present" was not a catastrophe. Oh crap, I thought, one of the things I've always loved about my two previous Toyota pickups was the fact that this really cool rail system was built in. I needn't have worried, as the rails are re-installed in a slightly lower position using some really nicely made bits of engineering. The hardest part of the whole installation for me was trying to get the drain tubes to fit in the existing holes in the Tundra's bed. This cover, in use, is fantastic. It sits very low, hardly visible above the sides of the bed at all. It opens, closes, folds up into several different useful configurations and when the truck is locked, the tailgate is too so there is no really easy way to simply pop it open. I wouldn't leave wads of cash in it out on the street but for camping, shopping and general outdoors use it is the bomb. Almost entirely dry inside even during and after monsoon-type rainstorms we've had here on the East coast recently. I called the manufacturer and after a brief description of what had happened I sent them some photos and in a week they delivered a big package with both LH and RH side rails. Great customer service. ... show more

  • Some minor issues, but great cover
Style: MX4: America’s Top Seller Size: 5' 7" Bed Configuration: 2007 - 2021
For the most part this is a great cover. There are, however, a couple of issues that I’ve noticed that aren’t major but warrants mentioning. The pros: First, the cover was easy to assemble. Working alone it took me between 45 minutes to an hour to install the rails and cover. Another thing is the cover is that it simply looks great. I’ve had other truck owners compliment me on how good it looks. Pretty much all the compliments have been from people that currently have the soft covers. Also, I have no rattling or noise when I’m driving; it fits my bed like a glove. The cons: The tube mounted underneath the cover that guides the wire that releases cover has popped out. I plan to go to the hardware store a get a same screw to secure it. At times the rods that act as a prop when the cover is fully opened will fall from the little holders when they’re not in use. This is not to be confused with them coming off while they are propping up the cover. They are very secure. Another issue is that I’ve had to fish a screw or two from the bed an resecure them to the underside of the cover. Lastly, the cover in not completely waterproof. This wasn’t a deal breaker because going in I knew that it was a possibility that it wouldn’t be waterproof since I’ve read mixed reviews regarding this issue. The manufacturer does not guarantee the product to be waterproof, however, some people have had success in the area. It has been my experience that rain will permeate the edges of the cover especially when it’s sitting in the rain. When driving through rain, the rain washes right off before it seeps down through the cover. The amount of water isn’t all that bad; if I had to guess I would say it’s about the equivalent of having two cups of water splashed in the bed and almost always just near the edges so I try to put items that need to stay dry towards the center. Overall, it’s a really nice cover and in the seven or so months I’ve owned it the minor issues I’ve had with the product is far outweighed by the utility, look, and convenience of having the BAKFlip. ... show more

  • Installation instructions need to be revised
Style: MX4: America’s Top Seller Size: 6' 7" Bed Configuration: 2007 - 2021
Well made -- looks great - installation is easy, though instructions need to be redone. It is very difficult to get the clamp in the proper position against the bed rail and the instruction say to 'get a second set of hands' to do the job. The MUCH easier option is to simply remove the one screw and cap on the tail-gate end of the rail and slide the clamps into the groove and down the rail into position. I eventually figured this out after struggling with trying to get the clamps into the proper position and for almost an hour and worrying about bending the rail track, when it took 5 minutes after removing the caps. ... show more

  • Service On Next Level - Item Was As Expected - Solid Fit on 2023 Plat-Tundra

First of all I ordered this on a Saturday night around 7PM. Delivery said Wednesday which was great. Upon checking out the delivery moved up to Sunday. Thats right, next day. Going through the process in once again confirmed this date at checkout. Emails and text also confirmed next day delivery. Like promised, the next day it showed up at 1PM. Driver unloaded it in my garage and was super professional. Item was flawless and free from damage. Install took 20 minutes max. Helped to watch a quick video online related to the install first. Item fit like a glove as most have said online. The only issue I had was related to the front cargo bracket which Toyota didnt center correctly. Truck bed is dry and secure. Amazon is amazing on this item. Saved a couple of hundred bucks on the price and got service above what anyone could offer. It wasnt even close. So happy I made the call. 18 hour delivery is something no one else can touch folks! ... show more

  • Death by a thousand cuts
Style: MX4: America’s Top Seller Size: 5' 7" Bed Configuration: 2022 - 2026
There are no instructions, they give you a QR code to scan. The QR code doesn't take you to the instructions, no, it takes you to a search page where you have to enter your model number. Once you do that you find that of all the videos listed there isn't one for the tundra, but they actually have a tundra video on YouTube so you have to go and find that. It's a over $1000 product, you can print out the instructions for us, what the hell guys. One of the rails was bent. I bent it back and it works... But come on... With it flipped up it obviously covers the back window but if you have the digital rear view mirror it looks like it will clear letting you still see back. It's close but still too tall. The view through the camera is half blocked making it useless. The drain tube does not fit out the factory holes in the bed. They could simply include a 1/2 x 1/4 hose barb to fix this but instead you have to go find a pair yourself. Come on... You know it doesn't fit that's why you left it out of your video. Just include the barb fittings. Don't make me go find some... With it flipped up the little kick stands are supported by some plastic parts that don't feel very strong. This would have been a great point for something stronger. The thing is going to catch a lot of wind, why use cheap plastic here. The plastic cover on one of the latches was cracked. If you have the factory bed rails for tie downs say goodbye to it. The rails on this thing block it so you can now only tie things down with the hooks on the 4 corners. So many little issues I wish this wasn't such a big pain to return. I'm really considering returning it and finding something else. ... show more

  • Not the best option for Tundras
Style: MX4: America’s Top Seller Size: 5' 7" Bed Configuration: 2007 - 2021
Bakflip M4 Gen3 Like: the matte black finish claimed to hold 400lbs, ease of mounting, i can fold almost all the way to the rear window. Dislike: no instructions for tundra, and on YT either. For almost $1k, the exterior clips are kinda dainty, the adhesive the holds the exterior rubber bumpers is so weak, I took them both off by hand the second day. It leaves gaping holes at the top corners of the tail gate. There needs to be a redesign for Tundras. The water proofing at the back window area also needs a redesign. On tundras, there's only about 3/4" to stick the adhesive foam. Rough Country has a whole 2" of rubber the covers that area All i see is It looks like they made a Gen 3 to save money from the Gen2, the re was no improvement. Considering returning. ... show more
