Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. For enhanced durability, the MX4 also features pre-molded, shock-absorbent bumpers on either side of the panel, protecting the folded panels from hitting the cover during turbulent driving. Rain or shine, the MX4 provides confident cargo storage that’s complete with dual drain tubes to divert water away from the truck bed, as well as full perimeter seals to help protect against water intrusion. I don't care for the clamping system that is used, they utilize the grip of the clamp to hold the rails (and thus the entire tonneau cover) to the truck bed. The clamps otherwise are not physically attached to the rails, and if the nuts happen to vibrate loose just a little, the clamps literally fall to the floor of the bed. Murphy's Law, if it can happen, it will happen... They say it never has, but I can't in good conciousness leave my driveway with it on. From there, because I made sure the clamps were tight, the rails are slightly past vertical (even with the angle shims that were attached), so there are resulting alignment problems with the top, and it has to be worked to open, fold, unfold, and close. And I wouldn't dare loosen the nuts on the aforementioned rail clamps to get it better aligned... The little pad strips that are included are imo insufficient to protect the back window and third brake light (it's cheap, and doesn't cover the contact points adequately or at all). I'd feel compelled to get a large piece of foam to cover the back window and strap it somehow to the cover. And btw, it does block most of the third brake light. The prop rods in and of themselves are ok, but the attachment/adjustment point sucks. Once put into position and tightened, it will move if you apply some pressure to it. How tight do you have to get it before it strips out...? This is something that would be used repeatedly, No intention to be negative here as I'd prefer to be writing a positive review. But if I'm buying something at this price, I certainly do not want to be having to figure out how to modify it to make it safe and secure, or to prop it up so that it works as advertised, and doesn't break out my back window, all on DAY ONE... ... show more

I bought the hard flipping before I got this, but carrying cargo where it needed to be up was a blind spot I didn't want to deal with. Therefore I resold that one and bought this. Wish I would have done it first. I seems plenty sturdy, yes if a determined thief wants in, they are getting in. But providing some security and coverage for things in my truck bed, not to mention with it rolled up, I can still see out my back window, makes this a winner. There is some minor "rattling" when the back window is open, but not nearly as bad as a retraxx I had years ago. Definitely recommend this bed cover. ... show more
