Description
Size:5' 7" Bed | Style:2015 - 2020 | Color:Premium Matte Finish The BAKFlip
MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming
America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the
MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance
allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to
securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte-finish
adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying
finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a
premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest
elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to
extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and
elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching
mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without
covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover
from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up
against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two
rods into the underside of the panel. For enhanced durability, the MX4 also
features pre-molded, shock-absorbent bumpers on either side of the panel,
protecting the folded panels from hitting the cover during turbulent driving.
Rain or shine, the MX4 provides confident cargo storage that’s complete with
dual drain tubes to divert water away from the truck bed, as well as full
perimeter seals to help protect against water intrusion. Finally, the MX4 can
hold up to 400lbs of evenly distributed weight and is backed by a 5-year,
hassle-free warranty. BAKFlip MX4 is proudly made in the USA with globally
sourced materials with a US-based support team. .

If you like scratches you will love the MX4
I installed the MX4 on my new 2018 Ford F150 yesterday. I did a lot of online research before selecting this tonneau cover. I ignored some of the negative comments on the MX4 as one offs, but unfortunately that was not the case. The side rails were heavily scratched even though the packaging was intact and the rails were in individual plastic bags that showed no wear. This is totally a quality control issue as rails are getting scratched in the manufacturing process and BAK allows them to be packaged and shipped. The top of one of the panels also has a long scratch on it as well. The overall design is good and the installation was also pretty easy. It hasn't rained yet so I can't comment on how well it seals the bed. I suspect not that well given that the rubber seal along the top buckles at every seam. Overall, I wish that I had heeded some of the negative comments on the MX4 and selected another manufacturer. Haven't decided whether I will return it or not. My advice would be to avoid BAK until they improve their quality control.

Decent cover but far from secure. Know before you buy
Purchased the BAKFlip MX4 for my 2018 F150 in May. It was easy to install and looks good but if I knew of the caveats I probably would have spent the additional $$ for another cover. First most important, no matter how you adjust it all you have to do and without much effort is push from one side or the other and the latch frees up allowing you to open the entire cover which makes locking the tailgate useless. Also just a few months after purchase the rubber feet used to protect the cover surface when it is folded open have come off. This has resulted in some scratches so basically I cannot flip the cover open without risking more scratches until I figure something out or get replacement parts. Emailed support today about replacements and will see what they say or do. As far as keeping things dry, no issues there. Drove over 400 miles in pouring rain for much of the trip and just a few drops got in. I would recommend using the drain tubes that come with it. I installed with a Bed Rug (which is awesome BTW) so was able to tuck them behind the rug which helps to keep any water from dripping into the bed. All in all a nice looking cover that is easy to install and use (flips up in a snap) just wish I knew it won't actually secure my cargo which is the primary reason I purchased it.

Not durable
I've now owned this bed cover for one year. My truck isn't used for anything more then highway miles, and I wear a suit to work. This expensive bed cover has broken in two spots and will likely need replaced after minimal usage in 1 year. Attached are photos. The second cross bar section randomly fell off which no longer secures my bed cover to the rails in the center. I was sent a replacement cross bar, but it won't hold because the previous rivet attachments wore holes too larger in the under surface of the cover. Most recently, the black weather strip closest to the cab has come unglued from the cover and was whipping down the highway against my truck last week. For a product to fail like this in one year is unacceptable.

Looks good but its not any more secure than a vinyl cover!
This review is for the backflip MX4 on my 2017 F150 short bed. It arrived with some small scratches on the cover surface, also the rails that it mounts on were pretty darn scratched, the box was unopened and unmarked, i get on well with my ups guy! so its 100% rubbish quality control from the manufacturer! If it wasn't for the fact that the covers rubber side seals hide the rails when the cover is closed it would have been going back as i don't want scratched visible parts on my brand new truck. Also don't believe the marketing hype that the cover makes the bed more secure than the cab that is total bull! The locking mechanisms that hold the cover sections down are cheap plastic, not only that but even after unscrewing the locks and adjusting them all the way out to the rails perfectly, to get them to engage well, if you push hard against the side of the cover and lift you can get the cover open without opening the tailgate! once you get the first section open you can just put your arm in and pull the cord on the other flaps until all the sections are open! Hardly Secure!!! To be honest I'm pretty disappointed i paid so much for this cover, it fits nice and flush and looks appealing on the truck but that is all it really has to offer, if i had known it was going to be so insecure i would have saved a lot of money and got a vinyl cover!

Bad quality control.
5 stars on the design and the cover itself, 1 star on the implementation and quality control for an average of 3 stars. First, the cover came semi-damaged. The end of one rail was crushed. I was able to somewhat straighten it out with pliers. The rubber weather seals were crushed by the manner in which it was packaged. Also, 2 of the panels were “stuck” to one another. It took me quite a while to realize all I had to do was pull them away from each other rather forcefully. It was almost as if they were folded while the paint was still wet. But no paint was damaged. But once installed it works flawlessly. Hasn’t rained yet so I don’t know about it leaking , but I do see a small amount of water getting in during a monsoon. With all that being said, I think I would buy it again, it’s just that the company has horrible quality control.

2018 F-150: Quality Control Concerns but gets the job done after fixing myself.
Good product so far with two significant exceptions, there was some slight damage (scratched paint) on an panel that was inner facing as shipped - it was packed damaged not damaged in shipping. More importantly the hole for the bolt that holds the front end in place near the cab was not finished drilling and I had to finish the job myself (see photos). Other than these quality control issues it works well, looks good, and provides the functionality I need. Like all of these folding covers it's not water tight - it does a decent job of keeping water out but it's not perfect. For my use case - protecting gear from being totally soaked and/or stolen, it's doing the job fine. Make sure you check yours carefully when you receive it.
