  • well designed, does not sag and collect water.
Preparation: This comes in a very heavy box. I was able to load it up on my yard wagon, and take it out to the concrete pad where I was going to install it. Very well packaged, and unboxing went smoothly. If you are doing this on the lawn, make sure you have a place to put the hardware so you don't lose the nuts and bolts. I would recommend using a powered screwdriver with an allen/hex head bit. Assembly of the frame: I was able to assemble the frame mostly by myself. when it came time to connect the posts, My wife was able to help me by holding one end up while I connected the two ends. the fit was a little bit finnicky, but it goes together very tightly. i was able to get the entire frame built There are not that many screw (36 total), and most of those are on the lower posts. Mostly intuitive, and the instructions are pretty good. The only discrepancy I found was when assembling the corners of the top, they insert into a square slot inside the top of the main posts. That part is not clear in the instructions... like I said, mostly intuitive. Topping it off: I was able to get the canopies installed pretty well with no issues. an a-frame ladder probably would have been a better choice than the chair I was using, but don't have one. I put the top piece on first, and worked the main roof hole around that. EZ PZ. The side panels work either as an extended roof, or they fold down as a side wall. There are also connection points on all four sides that allow you to change their setup individually. you don't have to put them up on either side as pictured, and they are easily movable if you want to remove them or change their orientation. Another nice feature is that they are supported on gas struts like a car trunk or hood. you can simply fold them down and use the velcro straps to secure them to the pole and open them later if you want. This was a fun project that wasn't too terribly expensive. It will work on level ground, or a concrete pad. I need to get some concrete anchors to bolt mind down, and they provided holes in the feet for that as well. This is a pretty well made and thought out product, and it takes what was an unusable (because of the sun in Texas) part of my yard and made it usable again. I'm looking forward to adding some patio furniture for it and I've already hooked up a ufo light in the top center to give me 150W of lighting at night. It's designed with metal Grommet drain holes where rain might collect on it. They thought of everything! ... show more

  • Requires a ladder and several adults when it's time to put the roof on.
When I got the chance to try this Backyard Expressions 10' x 10' Gazebo with Two Extending Side Panels I thought to myself, great! I can use that to replace my pop-up canopy. My pop-up canopy got destroyed when it was left outside in bad weather. Right away I noticed that this new canopy cost about 4 times what I paid for my old pop-up canopy. I wondered why it was so expensive, but I figured that it must cost so much because it came with two side panels that my pop-up canopy did not have. Let me just say right here right now that oh boy! I could not have been more mistaken in my thinking. It took two men to haul this new canopy off of the van and carry it to my door. I told them to leave it outside for me because I planned to set it up immediately. After they left I noticed that for some reason this new canopy was a lot larger than my old pop-up canopy. When I opened it up I saw that it also had a lot more parts that required assembly than my old pop-up canopy did. Because it had more parts than I expected I closed it back up. With that many parts I was pretty sure I'd need to get a family member to help me put it up. I decided to bring this new canopy inside the house for safe-keeping until I could get someone to help me set it up. I was surprised to find that this new canopy was so heavy that my adult daughter and I could barely drag it up the stairs and get it into the house. My new replacement pop-up canopy continued to surprise me. After a couple of months of it sitting around the house unassembled, my sister said she'd come over and help me set it up. As soon as my sister laid eyes on the assembly instructions for my new replacement pop-up canopy she pointed out to me that it was not a pop-up canopy at all. She said that it was in fact a gazebo. Not only that, she informed me that it was a gazebo that was meant to be set up and left in place permanently. Yikes! What a surprise! I knew of gazebos but I thought that gazebos were solid structures that were built out of wood or stone. Before that day I don't think that I'd ever heard of a gazebo that could be assembled instead of being built. Ideally, this gazebo requires 5 adults and one ladder to set up. My sister and I were able to set the frame minus the roof up by ourselves. My sister is tall and I am medium height. I needed a ladder to be able to reach the top corners of the frame. We had to slide one end of the frame into the other end of the frame and depress some silver metal buttons so that they could snap into a hole drilled in the frame. I must say that once assembled the frame by itself looked very nice! I also liked that the frame of this gazebo looked nice even though it was assembled on the top of an unlevel lawn. My yard is full of grassy potholes! Some of the downsides that my sister and I found when we were assembling the frame of this gazebo was that we had to install what I call extensions on all four of the legs. The legs of this gazebo are not made of one solid piece of metal. Short pieces of leg framing, maybe 12"-18" long, must be slid into the bottom of each leg and then bolted on to the leg. Was this gazebo designed for short people? Were the leg extensions added after it was decided to sell the gazebo to tall people? Perhaps, had the legs of this gazebo been made of a single piece of metal, the legs would have been too long to haul the gazebo to my house? Why this gazebo came with 4 short leg extensions is a question that I don't know the answer to. I had to get a hammer and bend two of the tabs on one of the small round plates that bolt on to the bottom of the feet. The tabs slant upwards but had gotten smashed downwards a bit, possibly when my daughter and I dragged the gazebo up the stairs. My sister noticed that one of the legs of this gazebo had some skinny squiggly lines scratched lightly into it's paint. Other than that this gazebo appears to be made of good quality materials. I was unprepared to own a gazebo that is meant to sit permanently in place. A gazebo needs a floor but I only have grass. My sister and I decided that we would move the gazebo to my nephew's house a couple of miles away. He and his wife had a new cement slab that would make a perfect floor for a gazebo. Once we got there it took four adults and a ladder to get this gazebo set up. The part of assembly that requires 4 to 5 people to do is the roof. The parts of the frame of the roof for this gazebo snap together the same way the lower frame does. Once the roof framing is assembled it looks a lot like a big black spider. The hardest part of assembling this gazebo was lifting all 4 corners of the roof framing up and over the top of the base frame while someone stands on a ladder beneath the frame and fastens the roof framing down. I didn't have a ladder so I was on my tiptoes trying to lift my corner of the roof framing up and over the base frame. Before installing the roof canopy we want to wait and get some sandbags to fasten the gazebo down. We want sandbags that wrap around the legs. The legs of this gazebo are nice and square. They measure about 2 1/2" on each side. We want leg hugging sandbags that have fasteners that measure at least 10" wide. The baseplates beneath each of the four legs of this gazebo are fairly small. One the one hand that is great because no one wants to trip over a metal plate on the floor when they are walking in and out of the gazebo. On the other hand the small baseplates are too small for flat sandbags to be effective at holding the gazebo down. The metal baseplates have two medium small holes drilled in them. Using medium small bolts the frame of this gazebo could potentially be bolted to the floor, however, no bolts were included to do this. Metal stakes were included with this gazebo but they are meant to be used temporarily, just to hold the frame up while it's being assembled. If staking is desired stakes will need to be purchased separately. Even though it had a couple of minor dings to a couple of parts of the frame this Backyard Expressions 10' x 10' Gazebo w/Two Extending Side Panels appears to be made of good quality materials. Though this gazebo does require several people and a ladder to set up when it's time to put the roof on, it is fairly easy to assemble. The short leg extensions that require bolting on are a something of a downside. Four stars. ... show more

  • Great Budget Gazebo!
This little gazebo has been such a sanctuary for our little backyard oasis. It took myself and my mother about 4 hours to get it up. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. We had no missing pieces as well because that’s happened with several big items I’ve purchased before. Overall we are so so happy with this little gazebo and will be making so many summer memories under it. ... show more

  • Big and high quality
This gazebo is super high quality. It is not a temporary shelter you bring along to the beach. This is the thing that you install in your back yard or in a spot where you want permanent shade. Though it is easy to set up, it is not meant for up and down like a temporary shelter. The size is great - adds a lot of shade and the waterproof cover gives shelter in the worst weather as well. ... show more
