Right now, I am giving this a 5. It was the exact size I ordered and was a good price. I was able to mix it with my soil and compose for strawberries and tomatoes. I am not sure if it is beneficial for my plants yet because I just mixed it yesterday. It was easy to scoop out of the bag for mixing. It seems like it's high quality. The perlite was minimally dusty. I really like Back to the Roots products.

This Back to the Roots organic perlite is of excellent quality and great value for the money. It can be used for any starter projects or for re-using the previous year's potting soil, as it provides the right amount of aeration. I used it for all potting projects as well as in my vegetable garden bed.

I love this organic perlite. The soil for my indoor plants have become impacted and they just didn't seem to be growing as well. I am trying this out to help amend my soil. I love that when you mix it, it makes the soil "fluffier" and airier. When I watered, the soil didn't become soggy or muddy - the perlite seems to help absorb the water, which I think is better for the plant roots. There are some bigger pebbles but a lot of it is dust... so it does create a "dust smoke" when mixing. It recommends wearing gloves- which I did - mainly because it's volcanic crystals/glass, which may irritate the skin. This goes a long way and you don't need a lot to mix into the soil.

This is the first bag of perlite I've ever bought, so I'm not sure if this is normal or if the batch I received was an issue. However, opening the bag caused a plume of dust to go directly into my face and cough quite a few times. Then, each time I disturbed the bag to get more perlite out, more dust, more coughing... not a wonderful experience. Otherwise, I really appreciate the resealable bag, and this offers great drainage for my plants for a good price. I would definitely look for a better quality perlite if the dust is an issue for you.

This perlite is the life of raised bed and container gardening. I add 2 cups per 5-gallon bucket of gardening soil, and it aerates the soil and allows for the perfect amount of drainage. Back to the Roots brand is less dusty than other brands. But all perlite is dusty to one degree or another, which is why I always wear a mask when mixing it with my gardening soil. Fine particles of dust aren't good for anyone's lungs.
