  • Zero bios updates (yet?)
Had this since August 13, 2018. There have been so many exploits since then, and there are zero updates. Zero downloads available (besides manuals and howto video's). It's an ok machine for an HTPC. I was going to rant and write them off as I searched their site... avoided creating a login to ask in yet another forum...... Found zero downloads. But to Azulle's defense, the chat button actually worked on their site. I got a human in a few seconds. And the human azulle was able to tell me that they are working on it. And that they plan on releasing a new bios with the release of the newer inspire (No ETA). Not sure if that means my machine will get an update, or not. And to contact their info email address for possibly a better formed response. Also they have an ftp site, and that's where it would be located (nothing there now though) So I'm torn. On the one hand, what a strange piece of hardware. If you've looked at the BIOS, it's not trimmed down. It's bolted on. There are a million things to tweak and hack on, not excluding a bunch of things most users have no business messing with. All sorts of weird things like laptop like power settings, camera things, deep power management tweaking and TDP settings. consoles and just all kinds of possibly not applicable stuff. Beware. More control than you'd normally have exposed to an end user...... I kind of like that. But there are no updates. Their website is kind of marketing garbage looking.... but I did get a person. And that person also appreciated communicating with a customer. So there's that. yeah so, this is what I'm talking about...... This is why we need bios updates..... This is a somewhat fresh kernel grep . /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/* /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/l1tf:Mitigation: PTE Inversion; VMX: conditional cache flushes, SMT vulnerable /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/mds:Mitigation: Clear CPU buffers; SMT vulnerable /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/meltdown:Mitigation: PTI /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/spec_store_bypass:Mitigation: Speculative Store Bypass disabled via prctl and seccomp /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/spectre_v1:Mitigation: __user pointer sanitization /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/spectre_v2:Mitigation: Full generic retpoline, IBPB: conditional, IBRS_FW, STIBP: conditional, RSB filling so turn off SMT until an update happens..... my 2 pennies. Final thoughts. It's quiet. But it can throttle. Zero fans means the environment needs to cool it. So yeah sometimes my little machine throttles. Most of the time, I don't notice and don't care. occasionally I get tearing. Mitigating any direct sunlight, or keeping the environment cool helps. It's not magic, but also isn't poorly designed. The heatsink is the bulk of the weight and appropriately sized. I've enjoyed the silence and low watts, and don't miss the money spent. That's the best sign of a good enough product. More support would be appreciated though. I have to knock two stars though. Because it's been a year, and zero updates isn't acceptable right now. Any computer company knows this already. Either way they do seem like good people and they've made a product that is interesting. ... show more

  • Sturdy product, lacking customer service (manufacturer)
Bought a barebones Inspire with the I5 processor a few weeks ago. The box is pretty compact for its capabilities, very sturdy and rigid, and the design of the actual case itself is exceptional. The blades for cooling and all of the physical features suggest that this design was well thought out and tested. As for the performance.... I DONT KNOW! I am pretty adept with technology and have built a few small projects. I bought this Azulle Inspire to boost a hobby project with processing power (using an I5 vs an ARM processor). Since I bought the barebones version, I had to buy/install the hard drive and RAM, and install the Operating System. After installing the RAM (very easy and accessible), I attached an M.2 SSD and tried booting to a USB installation drive. I have since tried multiple USBs, and multiple SSD's (2.5" SSD and M.2 NVMe) but cannot get the board to recognize my devices. The RAM installed and is recognized, but nothing else works. It doesnt recognize my keyboard/mouse (tried multiple and verified they work on other devices at bootup), and wont boot to any bootable USBs (Linux or Windows)! It seems that the board is bad, maybe the USB connection/mount, I dont know. After calling customer service, they agreed over the phone that its probably a fault in the board and to send it back. Heres the kicker..... Azulle customer service is very friendly and very easy to get in contact with. HOWEVER, in order to process a return or any kind of support, you have to open a ticket. The process is: open a ticket, they check it, give you a ticket number, send you an "approval of ticket" with shipping address/label, then you ship, they fix, send back. Well, I opened a ticket, and cant get a label. This sounds silly, but i have had three email and four phone conversations with the staff since then... they all say, "someone will get a address to right away". Nothing. At this point, I have spent too much money on this mini PC as a hobby project, and it doesnt work. Its annoying to have to chase them down over a product that is disfunctional out of the box. If I were a business that relied on this device or multiple Azulle devices, I'd be in really rough shape. That sucks because most of the other competitors are made in China and it'd be nice to use an American Made company with domestic customer support. ... show more

  • One hiccup, the rest was a breeze to setup. Great mini PC!
I'm very impressed on the performance of this small form factor PC. I did have a little trouble setting up Ubuntu on the PC, installation would keep failing, but once I turned off hardware virtualization in the bios, the install worked flawlessly. I was able to install Windows 10 without any issues, just Linux. I bought this PC so I could get away from Windows and get use to Linux, I'm so happy I did. I mainly connect to this PC remotely from work, and use it for it's extra proformance over the cheap work PC's my company provides. As for what I put into it, I gave it 16 gigs of ram and added a 250gig samsung m.2 card, also added a 1TB hdd for backups and long term storage. The computer runs cool and silent, I haven't used the wireless option or bluetooth. Overally, the computer is super fast and responsive. I haven't tried to do any gaming on it. I would highly recommend picking up this little guy, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • great as linux HTPC
Azulle Inspire (i5-7200U) is now working well in place of the Intel NUC that had been bricked by a power surge. Unrelated to the NUC death, my Gigabyte Brix BSi5A-6200 died (I suspect heat death due to broken fan), but was past the 3-year warranty so wasn't covered. I have another Brix that's fine so far, but I wanted to try something different. I used the NUC's M.2 & SATA SSDs in the Inspire with no trouble, though (not surprisingly) the Inspire didn't fully recognize the ext4 file system (from the NUC) on the M.2 & I had to repartition it. For reasons not yet clear (pilot error ?), I ran into LAN issues with linux mint 19.1 install/config (Azulle h/w was fine). With hints from the internets and excellent help from Azulle tech support folks, LAN issues have been resolved. ... show more
