  • It's awesome I love it!
This little recorder is everything and more than I expected. No I am not getting paid by the company to write this I'm just extremely happy I found somebody who made what I was looking for. You can record from a stb or set top box to an external drive thumb drive or to your Nas If you have one. I strongly recommend if you purchase this to connect all your wiring and make sure you connect an Ethernet cable to it so it can do the automatic update to the latest firmware which was really nice. You can even program it to change channels on your stb. An example would be recording Channel 2 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and then program another recording on a different Channel from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and it will change the channel automatically for you. The picture is amazing very vibrant colors formatted perfectly I just can't say enough good things about this especially for the price. I'm guessing since I'm an IT guy that a lot of the bad remarks on here about this product are because of lack of knowledge. This is partly to blame on the manufacturer as the menu to program recording there is not any literature included in the package to explain this they want you to go to their website and just read about I don't know maybe 20 pages of stuff that you'll never use who knows I just think they should have included documentation on the different features and what they would be best used for. The remote works great point it anywhere this recorder is going to get the signal. They also didn't include any batteries for the remote it takes two AAA so make sure you have those on hand. At least mine didn't. After testing this and not finding any other company that sold anything that resembled it I purchased two more because yeah they're hard to find. Also he might have issues if you're recording from an stb again that your cable box or satellite box what you will want to do is get a HDMI two-way splitter so one input and two outputs this will allow you to record from your stb that's what I use and it works fine. I love this recorder and if I needed more I certainly would buy more I might even buy some as backups for future use when these go out because it's hard to find them basically they are a DVR without having to pay a monthly fee to the cable company for that feature. And also knowing that I can record to my network storage Drive that is just awesome because all I have to do is set the program timer and then I can go to any TV in the house and watch it from the network drive. It also records and MPEG4 so it's compatible with just about any player even computer that you want to watch your recordings from. I am extremely happy with this piece of equipment it works flawlessly. ... show more

  • Last Resort AT BEST
This would have been impressive if it was made by a college student for a capstone project, but as a piece of commercial hardware... AVerMedia you should be ashamed. I finally found the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus that I bought for my son 6 years ago and it is smooth as butter, one button record, no menus, no problems. This EZRecorder on the other hand, is FAR from easy. Since I have experience with embedded programming, I could try to list all the bugs but it'll be more helpful if I just sum it up for the every day user: multiple parts of the circuit go to sleep at different times and do not wake up without turning the unit off and back on. The programming is so bad, you can't even access the menu unless there's live video going through the device, which in my case meant that I had to have a tape in the camcorder on play or pause before I could use the EZRecorder menu. So, if your capture project is small, this unit will work but not without some troubleshooting. If you plan on capturing dozens of old camcorder videos (30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, etc), you are going to be frustrated with this thing to no end. For what it's worth, I didn't plug in the ethernet and I didn't download any firmware and I shouldn't have to and with SO MANY BUGS I doubt it would have helped anyway. I missed the return window by one day, so I'll probably sell it at my next garage sale for $5 because that's the best price to offset the frustration I will be bestowing upon my neighbors. ... show more

  • Works great for me
I love this self-contained media recorder device. Took a bit of trial and error to figure out how to get it to do all I wanted it to do, but eventually had it working and recording flawlessly. I did insert a Micro SD card, but in no time, had it configured to record directly to my in-home NAS storage system via it's ethernet connection. If you're a person that has an in-home NAS, I'm sure your figure this step out without a lot of difficulty. Be aware of copy protection issues, as you're likely to run into some problems with it, if you haven't done some homework regarding this online. I'm glad I did and have avoided frustration of a purchase I wasn't well informed about. I have been recording in H265 at normal quality and have found no issues with good quality playback on OS software media players. I'm guessing most media players are up to date in being able to decode H265, but you can set it to H264 if you have any concerns. Very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Purchased for VHS conversion
This product keeps the original aspect ratio without an attempt to upscale. This recording device is by far the best I've used for composite inputs, keeping it as clean as possible on video and no popping in the audio. Also, continuous recording based on storage capacity that you plug in, no weird time limit cutting full length film in half like other products I've tested. While the recording is its original 4:3 you may see it stretched into a 16:9 output. Check your settings on the TV or monitor as a live view while recording will stretch, but the recorded file isn't. Three levels of bit rate are available for composite inputs, 2,8, &12 mb/sec with a 60 frame per second selection and a 480p file. The digital recording plays smooth and appears as the original VHS playback did. I decided that the 8 mb/sec was best to preserve color as the lower bit rate shows more digital artifacts, mostly in the darker areas. 8mb/sec is higher than most standard dvd, but best for keeping quality in VHS. I can easily post process if needed for fine turning. ... show more
