  • A 300 lb/6' 2" Man's Opinion
Color: Full Black Pattern Name: Chair
Updated December 2021: The seat cushion has lost all support and now there is actual leg/bottom pain when sitting in this chair. There is no way this chair was designed for anyone up to 350lbs. It has also started making popping, squeaking, and creaking noises incessantly, so I knocked off an additional star and would highly suggest bigger or heavier folks to go another route. This was one of those Prime Day deals I just couldn't pass up. I've needed a chair with better back support for quite a long time as those "gaming/car" chairs are seriously not designed well and do not provide any support. I came from an oversized DXRacer H series chair, which has a bit of gaming chair looks but is meant more for professional/business use. I liked the chair, but the back support was still very poor with an adjustable pillow that'd just compress and end up doing nothing after about an hour. I decided on the Autonomous chair because I actually own and use their business smart desk base for my home office sit/stand desk. I am impressed with the quality and reliability of the desk, so I decided to give their ergochair a shot. I have to say the head, neck, and back support on this is better than any other chair I've tried at a big box office supply store. I replaced the wheels with upgraded ones for easier gliding on carpet and hard surfaces and it's super smooth. The chair looks great in all-black without unnecessary color or chrome accents like some other chairs. My ONLY complaint with this chair, and it's quite a big one, is the seating surface. This seating surface is not a mesh one but rather a fabric/cushion foam like other cheaper chairs. For the price, I was willing to ignore this and give it a try. As a larger person in frame and weight, I can tell you the difference between this base and the thicker base of my old chair is quite substantial. I immediately felt like I was sitting on a hard slab of wood when I tried this one out. It is not comfortable for long periods of time, so if you're bigger I absolutely recommend a mesh bottom chair or getting a nice pad to slap on top of this chair's seat for long sitting durations. After about three weeks of usage, the seat is still just as uncomfortable. I am actually getting more accustomed to it, and I think it is actually helping my posture a bit more because I'm focusing on my sitting every few minutes when my rear end starts to bark at me. Longevity wise, I can see this chair being great for a couple years, but the cheaper plastic connections will ultimately wear out I'm sure. At that time, I'll probably spring for a $1000+ chair from the reputable manufacturers. I absolutely recommend this chair if you're a lighter person or are a bigger guy like myself and are willing to sacrifice a little comfort to improve your posture and back support. A cushion will help, but it throws off the lumbar position so doesn't really make much sense to me. Also, something I failed to mention is the armrests slide in/out and back/forth without any locking mechanism. It's not a big deal most of the time, but my previous chair had locking selections and I didn't realize how nice that was to have. Your mileage or opinion may vary. If it's on sale for less than $300 like it was when I bought it, this chair is a great value and excellent purchase. For anything over $350, I think you can probably find better with some knock-off brands with a bit more support or better features. In summary, it beats every "gaming/racer" chair out there. Your back will thank you for having this chair! ... show more

  • Sturdy Yet Surprisingly Uncomfortable & Difficult to Adjust
Color: Black - White Pattern Name: Chair
Overall, I’m disappointed with how much I spent vs what I received. Likes: Looks great. Very sharp. Makes my home office feel much more stylish and modern. The chair itself moves easily. Leaning back with the neck rest feels good for the most part. The arm rests adjust to the perfect height for my big dumb ape arms. Dislikes: Despite the mesh fabric, the seat is surprisingly stiff and uncomfortable. My behind hurts if I’m in the chair for more than 30 minutes at a time. The overall adjustability of the chair is very unintuitive. Adjusting the seat height is next to impossible. The mechanism to do the most frequently used adjustment was hard to find (because it was mixed in with other adjustments) and requires a lot of finagling before it actually works. Big negative for me. As I said, the neck support is nice but is only tilt-able once installed. So, I can’t adjust the height or movability of the neck support at all. It is not easy to put together but doable. It took me about an hour to do it and I usually don’t have trouble building flatbox furniture. The warranty is only good for 2 weeks. I paid over $500 for the chair and didn’t realize this until ~1 month after using it and decided I should return it. That is also when I realized in order to return it their policy states I have to disassemble and re-box it myself to ship it back. Learn from my example. I would not recommend this chair. ... show more

  • Good Chair, Bad Price
Color: Black - White Pattern Name: Chair
I'm a big guy (330lbs, 5'11"), and finding a good chair is hard. I tried the Ikea Matchspel but the seat and armrests were way too small. I returned that, did some research on this chair, and ended up grabbing it. I received the "Ergochair 2", but you might get the "Ergochair Pro" which is the same thing. It is definitely bigger and more supportive for a bigger guy. I don't feel like I'm falling out of the chair, still can't comfortably cross one leg under the other though. The mesh back is great, I never get hot in my warmer room. The amount of adjustability on this chair is also fantastic. I'm able to get a much better posture and sitting position out of it. Everything moves exactly where I need it to. The seat cushion and armrests are issues though. The armrests don't lock in place so they kinda move around when you don't want them to (except the height). They are also very hard, luckily I had foam armrest covers from my last chair. The seat cushion is all right at first, but after an 8 hour work day, my bottom is kinda sore. Plan on getting an extra seat cushion to help with this. That's kind of the issue though. For a $500 chair, I shouldn't need to buy extra stuff to make it more comfortable. I saw a lot of reviews online of people who got this chair for $350 when it was first released I guess, that's a much better price. If you can find it on sale or if you're lighter in weight, I'd say go for it. At the full price, I would not recommend it. ... show more
