Edit: after finishing this library book and highlighting the heck out of it in the Hoopla app, I decided to buy a copy to keep. I plan to put it in the bathroom in the hope that my husband will eventually read it, too. :) Original review: After a suboptimal experience today with a mechanic, I vowed to learn more about cars and how they work. I opened up my trusty Hoopla app to search the public library for auto repair for dummies, and this title came up instead. Perfect! I'm not actually going to be doing any auto repair myself because I don't want to invest in the tools to do it. (We move around a lot, and usually live in very urban areas.) This book was more in line with what I needed. I've already put several of his recommendations to work. I started a notebook to write down a log of issues that come up. I have our files organized of the services we've had done. I have a tire pressure gauge. And I'm ready to do the visual inspections under the car and hood that he describes so I can hopefully spot problems before they become worse. He gives very clear explanations of all of this. On a serious note, my dear Dad passed away in 2020. He was my go-to person whenever something went wrong with my car. He'd give me suggestions of things to ask about and tips for handling the mechanic. I don't have that advice anymore... So I'm grateful to Mr Monteleone for being a stand in. Since I didn't pay for this book and still get to benefit from it, I plan to buy his book on RVs so he gets a little $$ from us. I'm grateful for this book and the advice in it. ... show more

If knowledge is king then let's just call him King Carl. Reading this book is like walking into a bar and sitting next to an industry insider and listening to him "spill the beans" about auto repair, while respecting the industry and you the driver. That's a complicated piece of machinery out there in your driveway. Carl keeps it simple enough to grasp what's important for you to know. Read the book, you'll never look at your vehicle the same way again. ... show more

This is such a great book for someone like me who knows nothing, but knows I should be more knowledgeable about what gets me from A to B every day.
