This product appears to be able to clear a residential drain clog. The reality is that the metal snake is soft and flimsy. Instead of punching through a clog, the metal snake bends and as a result binds up inside the ABS drain line. It almost created a knot that prevented it from being pulled back out of the ABS drain line. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PICE OF JUNK.... Spend a little more money and buy a RIDGID drain snake. The metal is WAY stronger and won't dissapoint. Additionally, the fixed auger on the RIDGID has a better design to grab and remove the blockage.

When you get to my age you know that “stuff happens” - and when plumbing’s involved, that stuff can add up quick! Knock on wood (or PVC pipe) but I haven’t had to put this to the test yet. That said I’ve given it a good going over and, when the time comes, my Facilities Representative (aka, my husband) will get the joy of clearing the drains because this thing is heavy! This is a manually operated unit (no battery or AC) but there’s a thingie on the side so you could hook it up to your power drill - isn’t that cool?! I’m so thankful for Professor Youtoob for helping us understand the potential of this powerful tool. I love that this comes with a nylon storage bag - basically one of those backpack deals that you get at conferences and 5ks - plus the odd choice of a pair of one-size-fits most stretchy gloves that are not watertight. My guess is that they’re more to cushion your hands while working the unit (because they’re not going to do much to keep your fingers clean! 💩) Considering the average cost of a plumber’s visit I think the current list price of $39.99 is a true bargain - and that’s why I’m leaving this at 5 stars instead of taking one for the poorly translated instructions. 🙄 Thank you for reading my review, I hope it was helpful!

I live in an older home where we share one shower between myself and two teenagers and two of us have long hair. Frequently I find myself having to call in a plumber to take care of a slow drain or a complete clog. I see them using tools like this, and it costs me hundreds to have them pay a house call, so I figured it couldn’t hurt to have one of these tools on hand myself. I’m pretty handy and don’t mind getting my hands a little dirty. This auto feed drain snake auger by Gearwave definitely isn’t the same professional quality that a professional plumber might use, but it’s a decent tool, especially at this price point. If you can use it on your pipes before things get too clogged, and use it regularly, it will definitely avoid some plumber visits. A little heavy, but you don’t want a tool to be too light or it won’t work well. The directions leave a lot to be desired. May want to watch a YouTube video or something to get some pointers.

This GEARWAVE Auto-Feed drain snake is ok for straight plumbing pipes especially when using a drill. But on complicated drains or turns, the flimsy snake has issues with kinking or binding up. I much prefer using our sturdier snake. I was hoping to leave this one for use at our other property. But I will just transport my original snake from place to place. The instructions have issues.
