  • Got the job done flawlessly.
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
I had an Aurora shredder before that finally malfunctioned after many years that only shred long strips so not all that good for security reasons but WOW, this new one literally pulverized the paper to confetti or smaller. Very pleased. I had a big job to do shredding decades worth of old paperwork I had stupidly saved and within a few days and shredding a hour each day it was all gone. Loved the pull-out basket for dumping and the fact a light comes on to tell you when the basket is full. There are alert lights for jams, overheating but hope to never see them as I keep within the paper limit and don't shred too long. I will never have a job that big again unless I get negligent again so I suspect/hope this shredder will last the rest of my life. It came very well packed. Kudos to the vendor and thanks for a great product. ... show more

  • Powerful and quieter than expected
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
This really will cut through 18 sheets with ease. I wanted a powerhouse shredder for a reasonable price and that is exactly this shredder. I did not expect a quiet shredder at this price range, but it is quieter than the 8 sheet amazon basics shredder it replaced. I wouldn't call it 'quiet' but the noise level is reasonable enough that I can use it down the hall from a sleeping toddler. The bin slides in and out easily, and being longer on one side of the bin lets you dump it into a trash bag with good control. ... show more

  • Worked fantastic for the 8 days of it's life
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
This was a sad story and I returned it for credit reluctantly. The motor and cutter inside it has TORQUE! It feels like a strong unit, and I was very happy with it until 8 days into it’s life and it won’t turn off. There are electronic phototransistors in there detecting the paper and it decided to always detect. I would have split the covers open in an instant except it was under warranty and I didn’t want to break the seals. I called their tech support desk who had me go through several attempts to clean it, but with no success. I sent it back working just fine except for the start/stop mechanism which failed on day 8. They didn’t have any more of these thus I picked similar from another company but I really liked this one. ... show more

  • We are perfectly satisfied.
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
We had already wasted a shredder, a few years back. We had a back log of old vital records that needed shredding. Now it is done. Machine was easy to clean and Lubricate. Per recommendation, i used a synthetic, non flammable spray lube. Its sight glass in the side of the waste bin is very handy, easy to look through and much appreciated. But beside that, when it goes past full, a sensor sees that and kills the motor for you. What ruined the old one was not knowing about all of the above needs. But the teeth in this one are stronger and sharper too. Its feed in slot seems intuitive in design, so that feeding it needs less effort than the old one we had. Before pulling out the bin, one should maybe run the grinder forward a little while to empty its teeth. That will prevent it dropping loose bits while taking out the bin of shreds. Pulling the bin also removes power from the motor, a very nice comforting safety feature that might address future absent-mindedness. ... show more

  • Stellar performer
Size: 20-sheet Crosscut Shredder
A work horse! We shred hundreds of pages every work day, dozen of pages at a time. It hasn't faltered. We use oil sheets as needed, 1-2/month and they help lubricate and keep the "teeth" running smoothly. One less star because: the basket fills up quickly. With the volume we have, the basket had to be emptied several times a day. Shouldn't be an issue if you shred less than 100 pages/day. Let me know if this is helpful or do ask for more details. ... show more

  • Very quiet, large basket, and so far (after two months), no issues or problems.
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
Do a lot of personal business from home. Always printing documents or useful info then later having to shred due to containing personal, private info I do NOT want wrong eyes to see. So far, this model of Aurora shredder is the best one I've had. Have had previous Aurora shredders in years past but this one holds more in basket, is easy to see level of fullness, runs much quieter than those in past. Am curious to see if will hold up under heavy home use over time. Because I've only had it for two months can't give a high "value for money" rating. That evaluation requires more time to rate accurately. ... show more

  • Don't Buy This!
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
I really hate to say this, but as an engineer, I cannot ignore the obviouslyy bad designing of this product. Firstly, I want to clarify that when it works, IT WORKS SPLENDIDLY!! But the engineers who designed this somehow screwed up the Paper-Detection circuitry, which consists of an IR light source, and a IR detector. This assembly is spanned across the paper slot at approximate middle-point, and its purpose is to detect the presence of material in the slot, and start the machine. But when the paper is shredded, THE MACHINE IS SUPPOSED TO STOP. The engineers screwed something up in this area of design - either they over-current the emitter LED, or they fail in detecting the sensor, but bottom line is, after a bout 6 months, THIS UNIT FAILS AND RUNS IT SHREDDER MOTOR CONTINUOUSLY. I was prepared to make an attempt at fixing this unit myself, but as the Aurora Company provides NO SUPPORTING SCHEMATICS, it was impossible to diagnose the problem - at least at MY hourly rates. So I wound up throwing the unit in the trash, and buying another system form another manufacturer. I have looked at several of the other revues, and it appears that this is a STUPID ENGINEERING FLAW, guaranteed to eventually happen, so save yourself grief and look to another manufacturer. This unit is mainly a great design, but it all depends on this one circuit working, which it eventually does not. ... show more

  • Not worth the money
Size: 18-sheet Crosscut Shredder
Loud and bogs down terribly. Several months after ordering it, it started running full time; whatever switch detects paper on the auto setting was stuck in the on position. so I had to turn it off each time after using it. A couple of weeks after that, it just would not turn on again. It was within warranty, but I am required to pay for shipping back to the company, and this thing is HEAVY. I just said screw it and put it out by the trashcan for a junker to collect. I learned my lesson; read the details of the warranty, because sometimes it isn't with the paper it isn't printed on. ... show more
