I am very pleasantly surprised by this shredder. It is actually appears to be more powerful than the super heavy clunky one I have that I purchased years ago from office supply store. Although this one doesn't shred to tiny confetti size (it makes long strips of the paper), its fine with me. It looks nearly impossible to try to put the pieces back together..... wait.... there was a film where they had a whole office full of foreign government workers trying to do that! That was a very funny scene. For the price, easy mobility, compact size and convenience this is very very good. It has a retractable handle so that you could lay it across any size waste basket pretty much. I bought a cheap waste basket, laid out across top and shred into it, then all goes into recycling bin. Easy... I've had this for a few months now and it hasn't overheated at all, even when I shredded alot at once. I do not use it everyday though, so others considering this one may need something different. This is a really good buy, in my opinion. It works for me! ... show more

This is the third shredder I've owned in several years. When my last one broke, I didn't want to have to recycle yet another complete shredder or send it to the landfill. I took a chance on this, using it with the base/trash can part of my prior shredder. I've had it a year and it still works. It has some nice features, like you can expanded it to fit over different size trash cans if you have a lot to shred. I've been using it to get rid of years of paper bills, as most bills are digital now. The sound is not too bad. It's actually quieter than prior shredders. A bonus is that it also shreds old cds/dvds and credit cards. Love that feature. I've used it a lot with little to no over-heating. That being said, when it overheats, a red light comes on and you have to wait a few minutes. That's okay. All in all it beats hiring a shredding service. ... show more

When our parents passed away, we had quite a volume of documents that needed to be shredded. Most was not super high security stuff but personal enough to warrant shredding. I chose this shredder mainly because it was inexpensive and it is made to fit over any wastebasket and so its more compact than the clunky often heavy one-piece shredders. I'm very pleased with it! A couple things to know: This is a light duty shredder, there is a slot for CDs and Credit cards that works well but it does not handle much thickness of paper - a couple sheets at a time is about it. Like most small shredders it will overheat and shut off if you are shredding for a very long time. Oiling the blades will help that. The shred pattern is long strips. It does not pulverize it into tiny pieces like a lot of shredders but the upside to that is it feeds through fairly fast. For the price I can't complain and would definitely get another one of these. I really like that the unit is so small and will fit any wastebasket. This makes it handy to move around, it is certainly portable! ... show more
