  • Aurora AS890C 8-Sheet Cross-Cut Paper/Credit Card Shredder with Basket
Style: 8-Sheet Crosscut Pattern Name: Shredder
Got this shredder Jan 1 2023. Was in good condition, no broken pieces, or dents on the pkg. Set it all up, used for a while to shred what ever that was piling up since my old one of 15 years eventually gave in. I tried 1 sheet, 2 sheet, 5 sheets max so far and it did its job. Its pretty quick too, descent speed. The less sheets to shred the faster it is. The blades in the unit seem arranged alot differently then my old one. This unit seems sturdy with nice hard bladed to crunch through those papers. My old unit cut the paper pieces also cross cut, but it was shaped sorta likea diamond. This one cuts in in a shape of mini rectangles. This is all due to how the blades are designed in the unit. This unit is pretty heavy to just quickly pick it up with one hand to empty it, have to use both hand, grab it from each side. The grabbing part on each side is not deep enough to get a good handle onit, basically the tip of your fingers only are able to grab the unit to lift it up. Myold unit was lighter, the the grab on each side was a few more mm deeper to get a good hold, but then again I was able to use one hand to remove it vs both hands for this unit. Also, this unit when lifting up the main unit to empty it out, the opening of the blades are right on the front underneath while my old unit the opening was more towards the rear which was better since when you hold this unit your hand tends to hold towards the front of the unit and the rest of your fingers are in the opening where the blades are. The old unit actually had a little cover underneath where the blades are so when you lift it up you can hold the cover closed, this unit doesnt have a cover for the blades, its just open. The cover also prevent the left over shredded paper on the bladed from falling down when lifting up the init, you can keep it closed while holding it. They all have a safety switch so when the unit is lifted off the bucket, there is no power going to the unit but I would unplug it anyway, do you really want to trust the safety switch on any shredder. Again for me this is not that great since as soon as you remove the unit to empty your fingers where your holding tend to also enter the opening which is in the front underneath in this unit. Just got to make sure when holding the uinit just to hold the edge where the opening starts underneath. The unit is pretty heavy since it has good strong cutters , solid metal...to shred the paper. So far it hasnt overheated since I havent used it that long. Unit does what it was intended for.......... ... show more

  • If your unit appears dead, read this!
Style: 8-Sheet Crosscut Pattern Name: Shredder
I've had mine a little over 2 years, I rarely use it, probably have less than 4 hours using it. Awhile back I went to use it and it appeared dead. No light, switch didn't do anything. I pulled it out again today to look at it before I tossed it. Well, easy to miss, because it's a shredder, I've owned a few, who needs to read directions? Me apparently. There is a safety switch in the back bottom of the unit that kills power if not seated properly on the bin and it's pretty easy to think the unit is seated properly when it isn't. So if you have no power to your unit, definitely double check that it's seated correctly (or put it on it's back and use something to depress it before tossing it.) My own ignorance aside, does a decent job, basket is small, but if you're only shredding occasionally probably not an issue. I felt I should mention it as I see reviews here with seemingly the same issue. ... show more

  • Small bin but great otherwise
Style: 8-Sheet Crosscut Pattern Name: Shredder
Bought this for shredding paper and food packaging for composting. It will chew through lighter cereal boxes and paper without much trouble, but it definitely does better if you feed it smaller strips. I'd recommend keeping it well under 8 sheet max. It will eventually get through it, but it complains doing it. My biggest complaint is that the bin is tiny! If you're working through a stack of paper, expect to empty it frequently. ... show more

  • Works well. Pretty fast.
Style: 8-Sheet Crosscut Pattern Name: Shredder
June 2021. - 1 month review. After using this shredder on and off during the past 5 weeks or so, I can say that it has worked very well. And is faster than the previous shredder it replaced. I didn't keep count of how many sheets of paper I shredded in this time. But it filled up about 5 kitchen garbage bags (16 Gal). Possibly 1000 - 2000 sheets or so. For the most part I shredded them 4 at a time. It is rated for 8, but to keep the shredder moving faster and probably to allow the motor to last longer I did it at half capacity. Staples are no problem. It is still a noisy machine. It would be nice if manufacturers could reduce the noise factor. The bucket is kind of small in my opinion. It fills up after about 50 sheets shredded or so, without starting to push down on the paper that is inside already. Emptying out the bucket so often is a bit inconvenient, but I guess it gives the machine time to rest, before you continue the shredding session. It will shred continuously longer than the description says. May 8 to 10 minutes of shredding. Then the overheat sensor kicks in and stops the machine. I let it rest for the 30 mins it recommends. And has always worked again for another session. I found that the ideal shredding position for this particular machine is to have it on a desk, as you sit at it and shred at that angle. The papers go in much better at that angle then when the shredder is on the floor and you lean down to shred, due to the design of the entry point for the papers. In any case, it's more comfortable to shred in front of you than leaning down, for me. The auto feed sensor is only in the center of the paper feeder. So for small pieces of paper, you always have to feed them through the center. This is my 3rd or 4th shredder. One thing I have learned about these machines is that they do have a limited lifespan. Eventually they all slow down, wear and tear and then die. On average they tend to last me about 5 - 7 yrs or so, probably. And I don't use them every day. I tend to wait for a full trash bin to be full of shred ready papers, then I do a session. The last shredder I had I did grease it as it slowed down. That helped a bit. But do not spray grease them from the top as they are sitting in their bucket! the fumes accumulate inside the bucket, and they will explode once you start shredding! Instead grease them from underneath, outside of the bucket. let the fumes dissipate. On some reviews of other shredders people say they might turn on by themselves if left plugged in to AC outlet. By habit I always unplug the machine when not in use. I think this is a safe measure, just in case. And it also prevents 'vampire' electricity drainage, as many electronics suck electricity even when they are 'off'. ... show more
