I have received no compensation for this review; when I buy a product that does what the advertising says it will do I like to let people know. My previous shredder conked out so I researched various sites and looked at 15 different models. I had 2 non negotiable features: a pull out basket and a capacity to shred 12 sheets. This model has both of those features; it is a BEAST and I love it! I first inserted 6 sheets just to be cautious and it handled those just fine so I upped it to 8 sheets, and again it tore through those with ease, so I gleefully fed in a stack of 12 carefully curated old bills and it ripped right through them! I did this several more times with stacks of 12 sheets with no problems whatsoever! Success! Be mindful that it is solid and heavy but it’s perfectly manageable and for something that can tear through that many sheets it is obviously well made and sturdy which for the money is exactly what I expected. It also fits right beneath a share so I can keep it out of sight until I need it. I will follow the manufacturers instructions and oil this once a month to keep the serrated cutting edge in good working order. The instructions state that you can use regular vegetable oil that you have on hand OR shredder oil which I appreciate. All in all I have no complaints; I’ve had this for a week and I successfully dispatched three months of bill paperwork that had been waiting for shredding. ... show more

After doing my research I decided on this unit. Very quiet, works very well, the casters are great when moving it, the pull out drawer gets all the shredded paper unlike my old Staples shredder always left some behind. The clear window in front of the drawer lets you know when it's time to empty. Motor sounds powerful without being loud or noisy. I purchased this AU1200XD shredder based on the sheet rating, dimensions, and front bin access. I needed a shredder that would fit on a shelf with decent shredding capabilities. Unfortunately, there aren’t many that fit the size I was looking for. Most of the shredders with smaller dimensions are underpowered. I unit I received seemed to be new at first. However, there was some shredded paper in the bin. This shredder is heavy and as a result feels heavy duty. The bin does not close flush due to the weight of the top pushing down on the lower bin housing. Also, the bin sticks due to the weight causing the lower housing to flex. There is a on, off, and reverse switch along with guard that must be opened in order to insert material to shred. The guard is an odd feature. There are two opening settings. The first allows the shredder to function. If the guard is lifted further to the second setting it shuts the shredder off. Both settings are positioned very close to each other. Overall, I would not recommend the AU1200XD based on the design of the bin enclosure, guard, and high price. ... show more
