Clever NEW 2023 design, but inaccurate and incomplete Specs. 13V minimum operating voltage The Classic design has a bulk heatsink with fan at the end of the bulb. Heat from the LED needs to travel a long distance to reach the heatsink. The driver is a separate module on the wire. The NEW design is ingenious. 1. Micro fan is built inside the bulb body and is blowing directly at the LED area. The bulb metal body acts as a heatsink. Heat doesn’t need to travel long distance to be removed. 2. New design is using Linear Driver chip. Classic design is using Switching Driver. Switching driver has a wider input voltage range of up to of 9 - 32V, but it has a bulky inductor and it is less efficient, than the Linear Driver, at voltages 13-16V. Downsides of Liner Driver: Aukee bulb starts operating at full power at about 13.0V. The CSP LED strip, that is used in the bulb, has 4 diodes in series and by the nature of LEDs, the current drops drastically below 13V. It means, that if your engine is not running or idling and the battery voltage drops below 13V, your headlights will go dim and will not produce any substantial light at voltage below 12.5V. I tested both bulbs, using bench Power Supplies at voltages 11.0V - 14.0V (see pics). I put average current numbers in the table below. Voltage Current Power Draw 11.0V 0.060A 0.66W 11.5V 0.2A 2.3W 12.0V 0.5A 6.0W 12.5V 0.96A 12.0W 13.0V 1.63A 21.2W 14.0V 1.66A 23.2W Switching Driver would operate from 9V and reduce the current draw, when voltage goes up, keeping the power draw constant. Liner Driver drains the same current at different voltages above 13V. It dissipates additional power on itself. This is the reason that the input voltage range for these bulbs is only 13V – 16V. Temperature. Bulbs were tested in open air at room temperature of 20C. Temperature was measured with FLIR camera (see pics). The LED temperature was up to 125C. I don’t know the exact LED, that is used in these bulbs, but I found similar Samsung LEDs and the Absolute Max LED junction temperature is 150C. LED must be de-rated to 0W above 125C. It means, that Aukee is pushing the LED beyond the limit and it may shorten its life significantly. Luminous output Amazon listing claims “25W, 5,000lm per bulb”. Samsung LED has luminous output of ~125lm/W. Aukee bulb drains ~21W, therefore, the expected light output is ~2600lm per bulb. Claimed 5,000lm is not realistic, unless they use state-of-the-art very expensive >200lm/W LEDs. Based on the H7 Halogen bulb light output of ~1000lm, Aukee bulb produces ~250%. Power Amazon listing claims 25W per bulb. Based on my testing, the electric power is ~21W per bulb. Conclusion The initial impression is good, but lifespan is a concern because of the LED temperature. The minimum operating voltage of 13.0V is a concern to lose your lights when the engine is not running or idling. ... show more

Well I have had these for a few weeks now so here are my initial thoughts. I put these on my Mk5 Jetta for both high and low beams along with new Depo housings, I needed the new housings as the wiring in the factory ones were melted. For one they are a very nice crystal white color, and yeah BRIGHT... I did have a concern about the beam pattern because of the LEDs being only on Two sides, but that was a non issue. I think they actually may have improved the pattern, when I installed just one side to compare the halogen to these I found the light with these was in a more flat side to side beam concertation, with a sharp upper cutoff which sweeps the road nice. This maybe was helped by the new housings as well, I don't know. The one thing that I really noticed were street sign's, these really light them up and at a really good distance as well (no more missed turns at night now) but with that said I have not been "flashed". I also live in a area with alot of pitch black roads and pardon the pun, but it is like night and day, and with the high beams on OMG you light up everything for what seems like a mile, there is no chance of not seeing a deer in the distance unless you are paying no attention at all... Now before I installed them I put them on the bench and let them burn in for about 2 hours each. First thing was heat, the LED housings only got somewhat warm and the fan was doing it's job as I could feel the warm air moving, much much cooler than any halogen. What did get pretty hot was the electronics package, it is a small round aluminum tube and after the 2 hours it was to hot to the touch, some sort of fins would have been a really good idea here. I do have a mild concern on the heat from that, as electronics worst enemy is heat, and this test was at room temp not on a hot summer night, but only time will tell there on that. As far as fitment went, for one they WILL NOT fit the low beam on a mk5 Jetta TY VW for the goofy mount, but on a after market like the Depo's all I needed was the H7 vw adapter. As far as size go's they fit under the caps with room to spare, and were a plug and play hook up, be aware these are polarity sensitive and the plugs are marked in accordance. On that note, at first I did get a bulb out code for one lamp, which I found odd, just one? When I looked into the issue I found one of the lamps had one of the chips out, they have 6 chips 3 on each side, so what I did was move a lamp and see what happened, and it was that 1 lamp. I was in the 30 day window and replaced 1 set and the new set and works like a charm now. Are they 300% brighter? that is a stretch there. Are they brighter, oh yes, and the crystal white color helps out a good bit, actually to the point when I got the low beam set in I went and got the set for my high beams. I honestly cant be more pleased with these, and I do hope they last a good amount of time, but look at it this way. for the price of a pair of Sylvania's, you cant go wrong, and if I have to replace them in a year or better I will not mind. I say that because I am not sure of the longevity of any LED light working in this kind or environment, and those little chips are being driver pretty hard. But again time will tell. I will do an update if anything goes wonky, or even they work out well. I hope this review is of help to anyone looking to purchase these LED lamps. ... show more

These were ordered on September 7, 2020 and installed April 2, 2023. They were supposed to fit the factory harness on my 2011 KLR650; however, the prongs on the dongle were sadly too close together. Thankfully I had some spare ~16 awg copper wire (it wasn't labeled so I'm going off memory) with male and female spade adapters to rig up a redneck harness. Be sure to test the polarity before closing back up. The bulbs required a bit of finagling to get the lock spring in place as the bulbous fan on the LED was in the way. The trick is to place the lock spring around the LED, under the fan, and insert the bulb and lock spring at the same time. Finally I wrapped the harness in electrical tape to seal out any water. As for the performance they are definitely brighter and I'm optimistic about the longevity. ... show more

Great customer service. We lost a part and I contacted them via messenger (Facebook page). They did take a couple of days to reply, but we're very helpful and promptly sent replacement bulbs. I was just asking for a new little ring to fit the bulb into the holder, but we got an entire set of new bulbs at no cost. I will definitely buy these again... if I ever need to! ;) ... show more
