  • S8G2A78UL adopts the UDH07D mounting style (Universal double-DIN Head unit with 7-inch Display), almost all dash kits with a double-DIN opening are compatible, and with a double-DIN dash kit applied, you will have an integrative dashboard look. Before I begin my review of the product itself, I would like to say that SUPPORT IS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! I am a consumer and when I buy stuff, particularly electronics, I want to know that if I have a question, issue or don’t understand something, that there is someone that I can turn to for help. With my previous ATOTO F7 and with my two new ATOTO S8 Ultra’s coupled with the CA-AEC02 Car Amplifier I had many questions and a few issues on things that I didn’t understand. Support has ALWAYS responded to me with Expert Assistance; therefore, I would like to say KUDOS! I characterized this unit as a giant apple that forces you to eat it one bite at a time. The unit has so much stuff packed into it that it is virtually impossible to learn it all at once. It’s like a new smart phone where each day you discover something new that it is capable of. I could probably write a book on the features that I have worked with so far and I still have barely scratched the surface. But first things first. When buying a new Head Unit, the first question is SOUND. I have premium speakers in my Ford Expedition and a Subwoofer. Once I installed this unit, I heard things in the music that I never heard with the factory stock radio. The sound is pure, and even if you’re not listening for it, you hear bells, chirps, tweets, etc. even before any customizations. The screen quality is exceptional and in my opinion, rivals theater quality. The colors are bright, crisp and clear almost to the point of jumping off of the screen. Playing movies from my SD Card is a completely immersive experience. Speaking of external storage, who makes a unit that will support 250Gb. That in itself was amazing to me. No more CD’s to get scratched or DVD’s to get stuck in the player. With SD Card, USB Flash Drive, Android Auto/Carplay you could take your entire music and video library on the road. But WAIT,,,There’s More. The S8 also has internal storage which I haven’t investigated yet. I love that you can download apps (built-in .apk installer) that you use daily on your tablet or phone so that the unit fits you as well as your vehicle. My co-workers didn’t recognize the name, but loved the sound and video quality. You should have seen their faces when I pulled up Amazon Prime Movies!! (PURE SHOCK). With the 4X Antennas (NAV, Wifi, 4G and AM/FM, you are very well-connected. While phone calls and messaging (at least outgoing messaging because I have received incoming messages directly on the S8 Ultra)are not supported, there are things that you can do. I have my wife’s S8 set up where if she forgets and leaves her phone at home, I can still call her or she can call me through the S8. (Experimenting with other communication solutions). As I said, this unit is FULLY LOADED with features and capabilities which make a it both, challenging and a lot of fun to work with. I am not easily impressed and very critical, but I am thoroughly impressed with this unit. I’ve seen units between $1,000 - $2,000 that don’t have the features that this has. You could spend a lot more money, but you WILL NOT get better quality!! I’ve tried Jensen, Pioneer, Soundstream, Boss and a few others over the years but this is my PERFECT unit. I reviewed many Android head units and I selected the Atoto S8 and so glad I did. I installed it into a 1994 Mustang GT replacing the Mach 460 single din stereo receiver with cassette unit and the single din CD player below it. Installation was so easy given there are wiring adapters and replacement double-din console bezels. I won't say that the final install is as solid as I would like as I had to modify the components a tad to my liking butr there were absolutely no issues with the Atoto S8 or its components. I will note though, as I was yest powering up the unit, prior to mounting it, I felt the unit was too hot so I added cooling fins to help dissipate heat, unsure if it was actually a problem, however. I will also say I added a voltage divider (2 resiaters) to have the Amp On signal to the irigin Ford Mach460 Amps to alleviate the popping sound that occurs when the unit powers up before the Amps shut off. Not even replacing the original Amps and speakers, the sound was INCREDIBLE! Especially after adjusting the provided equalizer and time sequencing to target the speakers to my preference. Didn't need to boost the Bass, but the option is there. I also added the Atoto wide angle backup camera. Picture looks amazing, calibration took a few tries but I love the way it builds a 360 view. I will mention that you must consider how deep the camera is when mounted as in my case the license tag is in a depression on the trunk lid and this camera sees the sides of that egress. Point is, the further away from the body of the car, the more useful the image will be. But it works well in my application as I have cropped out that area. I normally hotspot my Android phone to it and it is great to be able to watch YouTube and Netflix while parked and waiting, obviously not foe driver while driving but passenger could enjoy it. I use Waze and Spotify mostly but have looked at downloading other apps from Google Play Store. Android Asdisyant and other voice commands are availabke but I haven't yrt used much of it. It has Torque app pre-installed but my car is OBD1 so not useful for me but Atoto can also provide an ODB2 adapter, wireless steering wheel control, front camera with a DVR app... so many features. I got mine for cruising so great sound and nav. Oh yea, there is a Radio (AM/FM/HD) app pre-installed which is far superior to the OEM unit this replaced, I also have a low profile 256GB USB with all my ripped CD's and photos plugged in on the front port and I can access that media as well. Also on this unit is a logo library, I think all makes are available, I chose the Ford oval as power-up and background. Lastly, this unit allow to customize the RGBr to obtain a color to match with the dash or customize as you see fit - mine is set to a dingey green to match the LED clock in my dash just above this unit. So it had been few months since driving it due to travel so I am sure I have more to offer but I would recommend this unit without hesitation.
