  • First time user, and already in love with this machine!
Size: A5 PRO
The media could not be loaded. Using the laser cutting method has been in the engraving industry for ages. Though there was a time when this hobby was pretty expensive to do. Fast forward to 2021, now laser cutting/engraving has been made much more accessible, fun, and advanced, especially on a budget. This was my first laser engraving machine, and I wasn’t at all familiar with how those are built, its functionality, nor how to use any engraving program. Although to be fair, I am not a total beginner when it comes to computer, as I already have experience using Adobe Photoshop, and other imaging program like this. Still, the world of laser engraving was new to me, and even with my computer knowledge, I needed some time to learn and adapt this time. Can a good laser engraver come under $500? Yes. Though $500 is a considerable amount when it comes to laser cutters, it may seem significantly less, and options available in this price segment may make the users skeptical about it. But let me assure you that the only difference between an expensive and inexpensive laser cutter like this model, is the number of features available, not the machine’s performance, which so far was very impressive after a couple of tests. Assembly was of a moderate difficulty. The instructions were easy and clear enough to follow, along with the nicely organized little hardware bags. The main issues were about how the frame comes together. There wasn’t enough explanation about this, and I had to find the hard way toward the end, that my frame wasn’t assembled correctly, and thus I had to undo the whole things and redo it again. Another word of advice, wait until the time everything is assembled and working as expected BEFORE to cut those extra loose ends of the track-belts. If for any reason you make mistake during assembly, you will find useful to still have those uncut to help you redo some of the assembly. I also find the included software much easier to use than the famous LightBurn everybody seems to use with their laser engraving machine. I wasn’t able to engrave anything with LightBurn at all, while the included program gave me awesome results right away. Of course, it’s probably just me and I need to spend more time learning about it. The laser engraver however, was right away recognized by LightBurn. So, that wasn’t the issue. In conclusion, whether you want to engrave your own design on an iPhone case, craft a customized leather wallet, or make your own wooden sign, the ATOMSTACK A5 Pro laser engraver will do the job perfectly. If you enjoyed my review, found it helpful, or just want to offer some encouragement feel free to click that “helpful” button. Thank you. Be well. 🥰 ... show more

  • Great product once you figure it out!
Size: A5 PRO
The media could not be loaded. I read most all of the negative reviews on the Atomstack A5 Pro, but they ultimately did not deter my purchase. Most of the negative reviews made me believe that it was a technical competence issue on behalf of the user vs an actual product issue. I think that many people who purchased this were under the impression that this is plug & play like a printer, but it definitely is not. There is a learning curve; How big the curve is depends on you. If you are impatient and/or not very technical, perhaps this is not for you. Assembly My 17 year old son put this together without assistance in about 15 - 20 minutes; Its not that hard. There are full instructions available online to supplement the perhaps incomplete ones that come with the unit. The Settings You will need to be prepared to tinker with settings in order to find the ideal ones for cutting and engraving different materials. The more you can fine tune the Atomstack the better your results will be. Be prepared and buy some extra materials to practice with. Don't throw in an expensive item to engrave or cut without first knowing the exact settings needed or you will just ruin it. I advise you to keep a notebook handy to record what works. For those reviews that say it doesn't cut, mine most certainly does. I've cut up to 6mm basswood and 4mm dark acrylic so far with ease. I think that most people are just using incorrect settings in the software, or the wrong software entirely. (see below) I highly recommend that you put something under the device to protect the surface. I use a 1/2 inch sheet of plywood. If you just place the device directly on your desk and start cutting, you WILL cut into the surface below. I used the Atomstack to engrave a grid pattern onto the plywood that I use as my base. This helps tremendously with lining up your item to cut/engrave. The Software Just in case you did not know, the Atomstack does NOT come with software. You can use one of the many available software packages, but the main 2 are Laser GRBL and Lightburn. Through my trials, I found that this laser cutter works better with Lightburn vs. Laser GRBL for the controller software. Lightburn costs $60 and Laser GRBL is free. You can do the free trial for Lightburn to see if it is right for you, but I can guarantee that if you plan on using this more than once a year, Lightburn is the way to go. When I used LaserGRBL, it seemed like the laser never got to full power, despite what it reported. It took 4-5 passes to cut 2mm basswood. Making the same cut in Lightburn using the same speed and power settings was accomplished in only 2 passes. Lightburn also has LOTS of important features that GRBL lacks, making it well worth the $60. The Exhaust I also HIGHLY recommend investing in an exhaust system, as this thing produces copious amounts of smoke that will easily set off your smoke alarm. Also, cutting/engraving materials such as PVC and Acrylic can produce toxic fumes that you definitely DO NOT want to be breathing in. I used the following components to construct an exhaust system to suck all that nastiness outside (affiliate links). It works pretty well and is not terribly expensive. If you can afford it, I would go with an even higher powered fan than I did. Mine sucks up most everything, but a tiny amount can occasionally escape the suction. 195cfm exhaust fan (cheaper, works) - https://amzn.to/3npUPu1 -400cfm exhaust fan (more $$ but better) - https://amzn.to/3pYBbID 4 inch flexible duct - https://amzn.to/2Zh0om6 4" to 5" coupler for the window piece - https://amzn.to/3mfsfwc 5" window exhaust adapter - https://amzn.to/3pCVMlw FYI - dont use a smaller fan - the 100cfm fans don't pull hard enough to suck up the smoke. A higher FCM fan would be better, but that starts to get much more pricey (3x more). Up to you. I attached the duct tubing to the back of the laser head with Velcro (see pic). This way the hose follows the laser head. This is much better than a stationary hose. I do lose a bit of Y-axis travel because of the hose placement, so if this is an issue than you will have to get creative. Hopefully this info helps. If you don't mind digging in to the settings then you will love this device. If you want something that requires no thought whatsoever, this definitely ain't for you. Have fun and happy engraving! ... show more

  • Good investment and fun to use
Size: A5 PRO
I got my Atomstack A5 Pro laser engraver with the mentality that I would create a small business making personalized trinkets, which I am still working on. I use the laser with the Lightburn software on my Macbook Pro. Assembly was very simple. Some of the assembly instructions were tough to understand, but the device structure is simple enough where you can figure it out. I have had a good time learning how to use the program with the laser and have been satisfied with the results. The laser has nice resolution with its cuts. The only real thing I wish is better is with lining up the item I am engraving so that the engraving is nice and centered. I have figured out a few little tricks, but it took time to figure this out. The instruction manual is somewhat lacking in how to use the laser and gives little for troubleshooting advice, but I was able to find good answers online. Be sure to practice using the program and laser before cutting anything important, you'll find it is necessary to tightly control the power output, pass count, and speed of the laser to avoid scorching what you're burning, and these settings will vary with different materials. I HAVE NOT YET HAD SUCCESS ENGRAVER GLASS OR TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS, but I have also only tried once and failed. Overall, this laser has given me a great hobby and something cool to pickup and learn. ... show more
