Description

Atari is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and with it the spark that launched the modern video game industry. It has been five decades since a small team in Silicon Valley combined their creativity, curiosity and passion into making video games and hardware. The result of their efforts was Atari, one of the most recognizable and enduring entertainment and pop culture brands in the world. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is an interactive journey through 50 years of video games through interviews with designers, developers and industry leaders, documentary footage, product design documents, and of course, more than 100 playable games. Atari 50: Steelbook Edition is a limited collector´s edition that includes the game housed in an exclusive golden and black steelbook, and includes an exclusive poster created just for the occasion. At the heart of the 50th Anniversary Collection is a curated list of over 100 games that span seven different hardware platforms – a true feat of emulation by the team at Digital Eclipse. Behind every game are the stories of Atari, what was happening at the company, what went into the creation of the games and the hardware they ran on … told by the people who were there. It is a rare opportunity to get a rich, behind the scenes look at the history of video games. The talented team at Digital Eclipse also created six new games that revisit, mash-up and re-envision Atari Classics.

  • An EXCELLENT compilation of 50 years of Atari (in all its incarnations)
This is a great compilation. It simply contains so much information, and with free updates from Atari (with more games to play), you can't go wrong with this at twice the price. The fact that it is priced so reasonably, and it is filled to the brim with photos, interviews, retrospectives, AND games to boot makes it a must-own for anyone who experienced any of vintage Atari's great products (or not-so-great, as this compilation shows the failures and market missteps as well as the successes.) If you're like me who grew up with the VCS, you'll love the tinge of nostalgia as you play 2600 games on your 70" UHD TV. It's almost surreal to use a PS5 to play Pong, but it's an experience (and a journey through the history of Atari) that is a must-have for all. Even if you think of Atari as the "Flashback" consoles.. this will be a trove of good things to keep returning to long after you've been through the initial timeline. ... show more

  • Good collection of classics
I got this as a gift for my husband, and he's so happy with it. He had an Atari, and this brings back good memories for him!

  • Awesome! Old school gamers will love this as well as younger generation gamers.
Really well put together. If you grew up on Atari you will absolutely love this! Many of the old coin op games available to play as well as the development history. Same with the console titles. Over a 100 playable games and modern updated versions of many of the classics. The history of the Atari games is laid out in a timeline. You can play each game along the timeline and learn about the development of the game or you can skip the history lesson and just play the games! Very cool collection of most of Atari’s best titles. Well worth the money. ... show more

  • Enjoying Nostalgia
I enjoy playing these older games and they did a great job. You get a lot of games for a cheap price. My only complaint is Atari never released space invaders for the next gen consoles that I’m aware of. I definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoyed those Atari classics.

  • Boring games
Don’t understand how to play. Very boring and the games I thought you would get you didn’t.

  • Best games missing
I bought for the grandkids and the first thing the asked is does it have Oregon Trail or this game or that and disappointingly it doesn’t. Others had mentioned it but I thought old games versus young kids it shouldn’t be a problem. I was wrong. It’s an anniversary pack and I expected more games myself. Now the good part is they like playing most of the games and haven’t tired of it yet. The bad part is missing some of their best games and the pong is terribly slow on the paddle action. They are playing it so I’ll keep it but next anniversary edition please put all the best games and they’d fly off the counters. ... show more

  • Buy it!
This is packaged as a bunch of games...but I only like vector sector 2022 it's awesome enough that I'm glad I bought this but it's packaged in a way that makes you think 🤔 you will like the other games and you probably won't 😉
