Frequently asked questions

The main difference lies in the way games and media are accessed. The PS5 Digital Edition does not have a disc drive and therefore, you can only download games digitally through the PlayStation store. On the other hand, the standard PS5 has a disc drive that supports PS5, PS4, Blu-ray, and DVD discs.

When you sign up for PlayStation Plus, Sony offers a collection of PS4 games that users can download and play for free. This collection, known as the PlayStation Plus Collection, is also accessible to PS5 Digital Edition users. However, remember that specific games offered can change over time.

The PS5 Digital Edition comes with an 825GB SSD. However, the actual usable space is less, due to the operating system and essential system files taking up part of the storage.

Yes, the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition supports backward compatibility. This means most PS4 games can be played on the PS5 Digital Edition. However, you would need to have a digital version of the game, as there is no disc drive in the PS5 Digital Edition.

Should I Buy It?

If you favor digital gaming, appreciate improved graphics and loading times, and crave a richer and more immersive gaming experience, the PlayStation 5 (Digital Version) is indeed a worthy investment. The cons for this product are minimal and not related to the performance of the console itself. Therefore, a purchase would be highly recommended.

  • The Best Console in Years
This is my first Digital PS5 after owning two Disc variants, and I can honestly say, why pay the extra for the Disc model? I personally own way more Digital games than Disc games which is honestly way more useful with this console anyway. If you have a lot of games collected from PS Plus or anything like that, then I find this to be the better option unless you really have a lot of discs. This digital model is also noticeably lighter weight and thinner than the disc variant which makes it easier to fit in more areas on your desk or entertainment center. Now, as far as the PS5 itself goes, this is the best console in years. It is the first genuine upgrade that we have had, in my opinion. The DualSense adds a whole other level to immersion in games as the haptics are able to accurately recreate the feel and sensation of whatever is on screen- from walking in snow, walking in rain, having heavy wind blowing around you, to playing an FPS like Call of Duty, you will feel it all as how it would feel in real life. Additionally, the DualSense also has all new adaptive triggers that are endlessly programmable by the developers as I have seen them respond and react in so many ways. In Call of Duty and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, every in-game weapon has a different level of tension in the triggers and different haptic responses when you use them, and in Horizon: Forbidden West you can feel the tension of Aloy's bowstring when you are using her bow. Not to mention, Ghost of Tsushima and the feel of Jin's horse galloping across the land and the clash of your katana when parrying enemies. All of these haptics and trigger sensations make games stand out more than ever compared to classic rumble motors, and as someone who predominantly plays on PC with mouse and keyboard, the experience is just so much better when using this controller as it makes it feel all that more immersive. Now, aside from the DualSense controller changing the way games feel, the SSD is also the most noticeable improvement compared to older consoles. Games load so much faster than they ever have and it makes most games have non-existent loading screens and near instant fast travel. In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the fast travel system no longer has a loading screen and you can instantly teleport to another district in literally two seconds. No more sitting around for 2-3 minutes waiting for a game to load, as now the games wait on you. When it comes to graphics, they are much better than the previous generation, but not as much as I would like. While most games do finally have a 60Hz or higher option when it comes to frame rate, most games are still locked at 30-40 FPS when set to 4K resolution quality modes or 60 FPS at a 1080-1880p resolution. However, if you use a compatible display with VRR support, the PlayStation 5 will uncap the frame rate in supported games and allow your display to fully utilize its power for a higher FPS. For example, God of War: Ragnarok is locked at 60 FPS in performance mode on most displays, but on my VRR compatible monitor, that FPS cap is removed and I get around 85-90 FPS on average and it makes the game feel much smoother. The PS5 also allows certain PS4 games to run at a higher FPS as well which helps breathe new life into older games. Aside from that, visually the games are an improvement over the last generation, but PC gaming still has it beat on this front. The PS5 is also much quieter compared to the last gen. Despite still putting out a lot of heat, the fan in my unit is virtually silent and isn't distracting at all which makes it a great console to use to record and stream in my studio space. Overall, if you like to collect games on Disc then maybe this isn't for you, but with the massive PS Plus games catalog, constant sales on the PS Store, and more, I honestly think I prefer this Digital version over the Disc version. If you haven't experienced next gen consoles yet, then you will be more than happy with the upgrade to the PS5. With improved loading times, better graphics, and next level immersion with the new DualSense controller, I highly recommend giving this a try. ... show more

  • Next-Gen Gaming at Its Best
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Next-Gen Gaming at Its Best The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is an absolute powerhouse of a console. Setup was quick and easy, and the interface feels smooth, modern, and very responsive. Games load incredibly fast thanks to the built-in SSD, and the performance is consistently impressive — whether it’s the high frame rates, stunning graphics, or near-instant transitions between gameplay and menus. The DualSense controller is a standout feature. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers add a level of immersion that really changes the feel of gameplay. It’s comfortable to hold for long sessions and feels solidly built. Even games not specifically designed for the new features benefit from the improved ergonomics. Going with the Digital Edition means no physical discs, which I actually prefer since it keeps everything streamlined and clutter-free. Game downloads are straightforward, and storage is expandable if needed. The only drawback is that you’re fully tied to digital purchases, so you can’t trade or borrow physical games — something to keep in mind. Pros: Lightning-fast load times with SSD Stunning graphics and smooth performance Immersive DualSense controller with haptics and adaptive triggers Sleek design with quiet operation Digital-only format keeps things simple and uncluttered Cons: No option for physical discs or resale/trade of games Storage space can fill up quickly with large game files Overall, the PS5 Digital Edition delivers a top-tier gaming experience with cutting-edge performance and features. If you’re comfortable with a fully digital library, it’s an outstanding choice for next-gen gaming. ... show more
