  • Good Value - All the features I needed!
Style: Phone
Nice big buttons, 14 programmable numbers, decent volume (I'm pretty hard of hearing), speaker function, scrollable call list, good loud ringer (3 step volume). Good overall quality - I think it's a good value.

  • Decent phone, but two issues to think about
Style: Phone
As an AT&T phone this CL2909 speakerphone with caller id was expected to be a quality and high performance desktop telephone. In general it lives up to its heritage as numerous other reviews here observe. I will focus on two aspects of the phone that irritated me. I knew about one prior to purchase from the reviews here. This phone uses a old-fashioned LCD display where you have pseudo-black characters on an olive green background. It is totally unreadable unless you have a light positioned to illuminate the readout. And then, you need to be close to right in front of the screen to decipher the characters - off-direct angle viewing quickly suffers. AT&T would be advised to upgrade the display itself by either switching to an OLED technology or installing a backlight. As it is, the display quality almost justifies returning the phone for a refund. The other issue with the phone, that I have not seen mentioned before, is the sound of the ringer. I have this CL2909 phone sitting next to a desktop computer. The sound of the ringer on the phone is almost exactly the same as the sound from the desktop when it receives an incoming call. When I hear the ring I need to look at the pone to see if the Call Info light is flashing - if it is, I answer the phone otherwise I answer the computer. It is possible to adjust the volume of the ringer (off, low, high) but it is not possible to alter the "melody" that the ringing tone uses. Otherwise, the CL2909 operates as one would expect. This phone has been sold for many years. If you buy one today, just realize you're buying technology that is many years old. ... show more

  • Good Phone with all the needed functions without an electrical brick!
Style: Phone
Just went and bought this phone today after considerable research. And so far it is meeting expectations. My needs in order of priority: 1. No electrical hookup - should run off phone line, like all old analog phones 2. Need speaker phone for occasional conference calls 3. Need Caller ID to screen calls. 4. Nice to have - programmable phone number bank 5. Ringer control - should be able to turn off ringer or make it go to visual 6. Should be able to put caller on hold or mute. 7. No answering machine needed Needless to say - this was the only phone I found which could meet all of the above. The need to have one phone in the house which can be used if the electricity is off just made all the other phones miss out in some other aspects in the list above. Mostly they wouldnt have caller ID. All these features in this phone work on 4 -AA batteries and we will see how the consumption rate on that is. It was easy to setup, though the wall mount , did have an issue with the hook for the handset. It just wouldnt slide out.... had to bring the screw driver and pry it loose. Next, I will programme the frequently dialed numbers and see how that goes. It seems fairly easy from the instruction book. So far I have tested the speakerphone and the handset - the sound quality is great! Our previous phone was introducing a lot of static in the calls, so this is a good replacement and I am happy with the price. ANd we have freed up one of the electrical sockets as this needs no electric connection!! ... show more

  • Don't buy it.
Style: Phone
I bought this phone 8 weeks ago because it had AT&T's name on it. Unfortunately, they have outsourced manufacturing to India! It has been one problem after another. Now the phone has static on the hand piece, and you can beardly hear the incoming call. Total waste of money!

  • Could be better.
Style: Phone
This phone was purchased to replace an older wall phone. It works well for making and receiving calls, and the speakerphone works well, too. The speed dial numbers (there is room for 14) are fine, too. If color is important to you, here is something that you should know: It is described as a "white" phone. However, on the box it says, "Actual color of product and LCD may vary slightly from photograph." Another reviewer mentioned that his/her phone was gray. Ours is off-white. The photo on the box (and on amazon) shows an LCD screen with nice dark letters on a light greenish background. Our screen has black letters on a dark gray background. I don't mind the color of the phone being a bit different, but I sure wish that I could see what is written on the screen. The cord that is included might be a good length if you are using it as a desk phone. However, as another reviewer mentioned, if you are mounting it on the wall, the cord is way too long to successfully wrap around the back of the phone and have the phone flush against the wall. I swapped the cord out with a shorter one that I had around the house, and this worked, but the phone should really have come with two cords. There is an indicator light on the phone that lights up when a call is coming in and when a call is on hold. Those can be useful features. However, it also lights up whenever the phone is being used (if I'm using the phone, I know it, and don't need to be reminded). And, it lights up if it is left off the hook (if it is off the hook, this is very obvious, and I don't need a light to tell me). And, it also lights up whenever anyone in the house is using any of the extensions on that line. This means that this light is on a LOT of the time. Why does this bother me? Because it's a very bright red light. I've had to cover it with several layers of masking tape. But my main reason for lowering the rating from four to three stars is the total uselessness of the LCD screen. There are four contrast levels, and none of them work for me. I programmed the speed dial numbers before mounting the phone on the wall, and I was barely able to see what I was entering, despite being able to angle the phone to give the best view of the screen. When a call comes in, I can't see who is calling. Basically, the screen is worthless. (Yes, I put in new batteries). I would think twice before buying this phone again. ... show more
