  • Great product but pretty spendy for a box of crayons

Great product for writing on green lumber. Just expensive. But what isn't these days. Thanks Joe

  • Nice lumber crayons but some arrived broken due to poor packaging
Color: Blue
Nice lumber crayons but some arrived broken due to poor packaging. Like other buyers of this product, these arrived loose in a simple mailing pouch with no protection from normal mail handling process. I had to glue two back together with cyanoacrylate. Why won't Dixson ship these in a simple rigid cardboard box like run of the mill Crayola crayons??? ... show more

  • Cobalt Wizardry
To call Dixon Blue log and lumber professional grade marking tools mere crayons does them an injustice. Imagine my delight at opening my shipment from Amazon. These hexagonal beauties come packaged twelve to a crisp carton, rather than the mere dozen of other competitors. They are the epitome of the state of art in marking system wizardry when used with the famous artisan crafted marker-holders with knurled compression ring and genuine leather handy-lanyard, sold separately. Don't leave home without one. BUT, and this is important, these are not for the timid or untrained hands nor as toys for children. I don't even allow my pets near them. Be sure to read all instructions and more importantly, adhere to all warning labels. Appropriate safety equipment is a must as the obligatory OSHA hardhat with rotating light and face shield, leg-chaps and off course rugged footgear. And quite naturally the most vulnerable contact points, handgear, should get particular focus. The widely renown, most durable of gloves, made from the indestructible hide of naugha's are not outside consideration. Sacrifices must be made. One cannot be too careful, for let us not forget the unfortunate happenstances surrounding the Blue Men incident where unprotected sporting in excess led to their disfiguration. And I hardly need to remind that training is a must. No one abhors the seemingly endless classes and practice more than this reviewer. But marker use is a delicate balance of subtle skills, almost an art form, that few other than the famous Monk Batwaq of the Tibetan Hinterlands, have attained. Even a Forestry/Environmental Science degree is insufficient. Chainsaws. axes, heavy equipment are mere child's play in comparison. After a life time of grueling training and practical hands-on experience, at least I can now say that I have come to a point where I no longer am hurting myself. Avoid the disappointment of regret and the embarrassment of having made inferior choices. Upside, downside, forwards, backwards, this duo marker/holder system never fails. Choose Dixon. Lastly, be careful out there and consider Emergency Services on stand by, just in case. ... show more

  • Not suitable for marking rubber tires.
Color: White
The media could not be loaded. When searching for tire/rubber marking crayons, these Dixon brand industrial crayons were listed/suggested based in my search. I did read the description for these crayons, and with some previous experience as a logger i remembered lumber crayons to be firm, but marked quite well on smooth surfaces as also on rough cut wood. I purchased these white Dixon industrial crayons for use in marking on the sidewall, tread, and inner liner of tires during tire repair procedures. These Dixon crayons should not be listed or suggested for marking on tires or rubber. These crayons do work quite well on wood and other rough surfaces, but they barely leave any trace of color on tires. These crayons are much more firm than any other crayon i have used. The hardness is closer to graphite or even soapstone than conventiinal wax marking crayons. Update 9-19-22 Added a video demonstration of an old 31 wax tire crayon marking the inside of a tire compared with the Dixon crayon, i apologize for the noise as I am in my work area with other equipment running. ... show more

  • Best crayons for wet firewood
Color: Red
The media could not be loaded. By far the best marking device I have found for cutting felled trees into firewood. These work best if the crayon is slightly warm or soft. On cold days a new crayon will take a few uses before it starts to mark really well. Only complaint is that without the crayon holder they sell, the full size crayon seems too long and at least for me, breaks in half on first or second use. Not really an issue since they still work, just a little to long out of the box. ... show more
