I don't want to judge this system too harshly, it works well, the voicemail system works well, it has good range and battery life. In fact, I have long had an earlier version of this phone and was very happy with it. I bought this as an upgrade for one specific feature, Caller ID Announcement. However, this feature, as it works, is not useful. Yes, it announces who is on the phone very clearly, BUT NOT UNTIL THE THIRD RING! At that point, I have already walked over to the phone to see who it is, and only have one ring until it rolls over to the answering machine. This review is not agist. But my parents are elderly and they think they need a landline. They have cell phones but for some reason they still also pay for a landline. Whatever prompts them to believe that, they were distraught nearly devastated when they're old landline receiver stopped working the other day. My father didn't call me right away because his landline receiver was broken but he found a way to notify me another way which the concept of that must have escaped him because he still was panicking over replacing this receiver. I pondered the desperation he expressed from his landline dying after 20 years of use. How he thought of consulting the landline company first who no doubt may charge him a ridiculous amount of money for another receiver for a house visit. I said no Dad No. You just need a new receiver. Probably after 20 years of dropping it or maybe just the electronics saying no more ringing and shaking for us we're done, your receiver has said goodbye. Dig a hole and bury it in the backyard. Just kidding don't do that. This new receiver which looks almost identical to the one he had for 20 years which I think is somewhat impressive for electronics although from the Earth's standpoint shouldn't things last longer anyway? From that standpoint I think he did well so I looked for something similar and whoa I found it. The whatever this model and manufacture is looks almost the same. To Dad, it's almost like the old one never died. He has the main unit, the answering thing, and another unit. Because humans are that lazy. What I liked as the daughter who didn't want to have to set this up for anybody but did, was the fact that it was pretty straightforward. Instructions were actually included so I didn't have to trial and error it. Also the instructions were not microscopic. So if you were buying this for a relative who felt like they needed a landline that might be a helpful fact about the instructions. I didn't even customize their answering machine message I just set it up so it takes messages and apparently it's working so literally 5 minutes of my precious time are less was spent on this and my dad was very happy which is worth actually a lot to me.
