  • RT-AX56U - I am using this as a Mesh Node for a RT-AX88U router.
Style: WiFi 6 AX1800 | 2x2
Worked great right out of the box. Connected it up on Ethernet Backhaul and received full 2x2 80MHz speed, could not have been easier. On 500/500 Mbps Fibre Internet I am getting 469/417 Mbps 25 feet from the access point connected WIFI 5 (ac) and at the same range connected WIFI5 (ax) I am getting 507/507 Mbps the same as if I was using the wired connection. The Backhaul seems to add around 2ms to the ping times. ... show more

  • I will never ever ever buy ASUS products again
Style: WiFi 6 AX1800 | 2x2
This router doesn't work properly due to hardware bugs. I bought it 6 months ago and was unable to have the time to install it until just now. It just sat in the box unopened. It constantly drops 2.4ghz WiFi connections. It did it in such a way that the laptop was unable to automatically reconnect. At first, I could just reconnect mannually and it would last for another few minutes. As time went on, it lasted only seconds before it failed. I was unable to complete the install with my 2.4ghz laptop and had to finish it with my cell phone on 5ghz. The word "Finish" here is an exaggeration. Another thing is that it wont let you log in if you don't have a connection to asus.com. I tried with the modem disconnected and it refuses to let me log on. Every other router has worked autonomously sans internet. I also have serious privacy concerns with the information about my browsing history being sent to ASUS and apparently no way to opt out. Its been sitting too long to return it, so its going in the trash. This router is the 4th failed router that I've gotten from ASUS. Hopefully in the future I will be smart enough never to buy anything with the ASUS name on it again. Just saying, but this is a great router for people who enjoy getting migraines and also makes a great gift for all your enemies. ... show more

  • Five stars compared to Verizon FiOS G1100. Wifi Calling finally works.
Style: WiFi 6 AX1800 | 2x2
We have Verizon FiOS service with the Verizon Quatum G1100 router. We had constant signal strength problems with the Verizon G1100. In a two story house, devices in the room directly above the G1100 router had a weak signal for the 2.4 GHz network or could not find the 5 GHz networks. It got even worse when moving to rooms down the hall. Additionally, Wifi Calling (phone calls over Wifi instead of 3G/4G) never worked. We purchased the ASUS RT-AX56U to replace the wireless functionality of the Verizon G1100. The Verizon G1100 is still acting as the router into the Verizon network. The ASUS RT-AX56U provides wireless connectivity now. Wifi was turned off at the Verizon G1100. The ASUS RT-AX56U is in AP Mode and connected to the Verizon G1100 by ethernet. The ASUS RT-AX56U running the July 2020 firmware is performing flawlessly. All of our wireless problems have been solved using the ASUS RT-AX56U. And modern devices like an iPhone 11 are hitting record speeds at our house. Previously, the iPhone 11 could only connect to Verizon's 2.4 GHz wifi network. And Wifi Calling finally works. We can now make calls without problems due to spotty cell coverage in our area. As a bonus, the ASUS RT-AX56U is a Wi-fi 6 router providing 802.11ax. It is the latest standard, and the router only costs about $100 USB. It was a great bargain. ... show more

  • AiMesh works! So easy to install, I should have done this years ago
Style: WiFi 6 AX1800 | 2x2
I just got a higher level Asus router to replace my 3 month old Linksys (don't get me started on that piece of trash). I was impressed how well it worked and made the decision to get another Asus router and try setting up a mesh network. I have three separate routers to cover my property. As I moved around, I would have to manually switch between the routers. Having a mesh network would resolve this problem. Looking at a number of online reviews and a bunch of YT vids, I settled on this unit. A few vids, including the Asus ones, showed quite a few steps to set up the Mesh network. It was way easier in actual practice. Maybe they upgraded the system. I connected the router to my computer using an ethernet cable and connected the cable modem. Called up the configuration screen. It asked me if I wanted to set it up as a mesh node or a router. Chose node. Then it told me to hook the computer back to the main router and leave this one powered up and close to it. After the main router powered back up, I logged into that config screen and clicked on the AiMesh Node button. Then I clicked on the Find AiMesh node button. After a short wait, it detected the new router and asked if I wanted to use it as a mesh node. Yep. Short pause then it said it needed a firmware update. Clicked on Administration -> Firmware Update tab -> Check for update. Told it up update the node. Let it do its thing. Router (now node) power cycled. Back to AiMesh screen, told it yes I wanted the detected device to be a node. Waited a bit. Then that was it. The only hiccup was that my device wouldn't switch until the signal dropped below -70 dBm. Still a "good" signal per my WiFi signal strength app, but really bad when trying to transfer data. From a YT video (search for "Behfor") I adjusted the threshold to -60 dBm. Wireless button within the Advanced Settings section. Professional tab. Scroll down to the Roaming Assistant line. Enable and change the number in the "Disconnect clients with RSSI lower than :" from -70 dBm to -60 dBm. Apply. Wonderful. I can move around and my phone moves from node to router and back transparently. There is a little delay when it switches radios, but streaming music doesn't stop playback. Totally happy with my Asus routers! The Linksys it still under warranty, so I'll try and get them to fix/replace it. But even if I do get it fixed, I'm selling it off. Asus is so much better. ... show more
