This is a fantastic router. I had an Apple AirPort Extreme that seemed to be working fine so I thought there was no need to upgrade. 2020 hit and my kids ended up doing school from home while I worked from home. While I had never experienced any issues, the kids were having connection issues during Zoom meetings with their classes. I have 1 gigabit internet speed through Comcast/Xfinity and had never seen much more than 550mbps over Wi-fi but figured it was a limitation of the devices I was using. Between seeing the low (for the plan) speeds and the kids having Zoom issues, I decided to get a Wi-fi 6 compatible router. I did a bunch of research and this was one of the highest rated ones and I had my friend, a Sr. Network Engineer, look over the specs and he was impressed by it and now wants to get one. I bought it and set it up. Setup was very easy and intuitive so the router was up and running in just minutes. The ASUS app is user friendly as well. While most devices on my network aren’t Wi-fi 6 compatible, my iPad and iPhone both are. I was able to get up to 892mbps with this new router on my phone and up to 901mpbs on my iPad Pro, both of course over Wi-fi. My kids also both have not had a single issue with Zoom meeting connections after the upgrade. This router was money well spent, especially with a smart home full of devices connected, me working from home, and my kids both on Chrome books doing school from home. If you are considering this router, I hope you find this review helpful. I would absolutely buy this router if I had it to do again. It has been running flawlessly for a few months now and has been putting our gigabit service to good use. Oh, and range... The router is located in the middle of our home and we have a detached garage which gets a nice strong signal and a detached shed maybe 100 feet from the router through a few walls and across the yard that has a Wi-fi camera mounted to it which receives a good signal and allows for streaming from the camera so I find the range to be very good. ... show more

Top Notch Network Performance

After owning my nighthawk router for years, I decided to finally pull the plug and get a decent router that was not going to fail us miserably. Right off the bat, I noticed that the router wasn't bulky (a major plus) and it included a short ethernet cable to set it with my modem. The instructions were clear, concise and I was able to get it up and running within 5-10 minutes. Upon usage, I can definitely say that this router is reliable in terms of connectivity and pretty fast. Features: The router I purchased has four ethernet ports, one USB 3.0 port, fast wireless connectivity, and even a dedicated app which lets you customize settings to optimize performance for work, gaming, and even casual use. Within the app, you are also able to turn off the LED lights and change the Aura RGB on the router. Not to mention, it also has a security feature to protect against malicious attacks. Performance: The performance on this router is impressive; A major upgrade from what I had before. We tested its performance using various devices, including PCs, laptops, smart TVs, Gaming Consoles and it delivered a fast and reliable connection. UE: The router is easy to set up and use. Once everything is set up, you can use the mobile app-based to manage various settings, including parental controls and QoS optimization. Although, I would say that mobile app design can be a little confusing for those who are locating specific features since some just show icons with no text. Nonetheless, after messing with the app, you will be fine. Conclusion: I can definitely say that this router has impressed me, especially for the price. Much better than my old router!

I bought the Asus AX82U router to replace my 6 year old Linksys router which was starting to lose range and WIFI speeds during testing,etc. I seen this model and fell in love with the look and the cool lights on the front. But seriously this Asus model is no joke when it comes to performance either. After the easy setup I was testing speeds in area inside my house and outside. The 5 GHz channel seems to give a great signal for me, even through my stone on the outside of my house. I pay for 400Mbps currently and I get over that inside my house. That being said my house is just under 1000 ft.². Outside I get close to 300Mbps and very happy with that. I’ve only had this for a few days and I’m not sorry so far about the purchase. I also hooked up a USB hard drive I had home movies on that is easily accessible now on my net work on any of my devices. Also this model has a power switch to turn it on or off. I like that feature as opposed to unplugging it from the wall if you need to do a restart. Make sure you download the app on your cell phone or any device supported, and you will not regret it. You can do just about everything from that app, including restarting the router. I paid $179 at the time of this purchase so I feel I did good. I straight away from mesh systems but I am pleased to know that this Asus can also connect to another Aimesh router in case I need better coverage. Prefect balance of performance and efficiency

Update 7/16/24: it seems to be holding up. Purchased in September 2023. Came with firmware 3.0.0.4.386.50224 installed. It's been through a few firmware updates and is now on 3 0.0.4.388.24231. No drops or latency spikes seen. Strong, consistent wifi signal too. Only time will tell me how reliable it is at this point . 10/14/23: My initial experience with this product? It's flying along (and even looks like a spaceship). At first I tried an RT-AX58U which has great 5 ghz speeds but some devices were stuck getting 60-70 mbps download speeds over 2.4 ghz. Too bad because I liked the lower power consumption of that model (most of the time at 6 watts or lower power consumption). Now I also have aan RT-AX88U which performs really well on both 2.4 and 5 ghz but consumes on average 8-9 watts and frequently peaks just over 10 watts. Because I'm trying to lower electricity costs in my home, I eventually tried this model (which was overlooked previously because of its lights. Not into the rgb thing). I should've gone with this model in the first place! Those same devices are getting 107-110 mbps download speeds over 2.4 ghz. In fact, performance is very close to the RT-AX88U! Of course performance over 5 ghz is stellar like both the RT-AX58U and RT-AX88U where my phone that supports wifi 6 gets 370+ mbps and my older phone that supports wifi 5 gets 360+ mbps download speeds. I'm still on a Spectrum 300 mbps plan so this is great for what I have! Upload speeds are only 12 mbps on all devices which is expected with a coaxial cable connection. Power consumption is right where I want it at 6-7 watts most of the time (heavy streaming of 4k and 1080p content on 2-3 devices with a mixture of work devices and phones making up the remainder of the workload here). Ultimately this review is much earlier than I'd normally write one so I can't comment on longevity. Will update later about that. So far I'm impressed! ... show more

Utter garbage after firmware update

I purchased this router as a replacement for a TP-Link router that, despite functioning well, was a cause of concern over security based on US government reports (what was I thinking trusting the US government, right?). Well, I purchased this primarily because it was a US based company, and supposedly trustworthy. Initial setup wasn't too much of a struggle (although certainly more complicated than my TP-Link), and this router functioned well, until... Yes, the dreaded firmware update. Right in the middle of the evening (despite updates being scheduled overnight), this router updated, and the wifi signal dropped to less than miserable. Every device on my network dropped off simultaneously. No amount of factory resets or other messing around with it would fix the signal strength. This was so bad, that if sitting right in front of the router, a connection was possible, but moving a mere 10' away, and being in a direct line-of-sight with the antennas, the signal drops off so badly that it becomes completely unusable. Thank God I'm a hoarder and didn't throw away that old TP-Link AX1800. At least that recovered my connectivity within moments of replacing the ASUS paperweight. Yes, I went back to my old reliable TP-Link router. In fact, I purchased a spare of the same model and run 2 networks in my home now (IOT & entertainment) with absolutely no issues. Let the Chinese snoop on my network, I've got nothing to hide anyhow. Besides, I'm no longer convinced they're the government that can't be trusted anymore... ... show more
