Excellent and stable MOBO with great connectivity
First PC build. Have been using it now for a year. The Z790 Dark Hero has been super stable. Looks great, excellent number of USB ports, and ethernet and Wi-Fi network devices work flawlessly. Having 5 NVMI slots has been great for gaming and AI workloads. Used it with both a 4090 and 5090 and have had no issues. Did stop using the top NVMI slot to allow the PCIE 5 connection for the 5090 to have access to all lanes, so I "only" have 4 SSDs connected. I have nothing but good things to say about this MOBO. Armoury Crate is known to be a pain, but I don't have any complaints.

Great mobo
Had an issue with the first one i bought, kept getting a d6 error, ive tried 2 confirmed working graphics cards to make sure it was the mobo and not the cards . And i returned it and they gave me a good one and now it works great 👍🏻

Do not buy!!!!
1st board: Ordered 7 different kits of RAM off the QVL, none would even run close to advertised compatible speeds. None of the 4 DIMM kits would even POST, let alone boot. Would be stuck in boot loop for hours. 2 DIMM kits would POST, but occasionally boot loop, and run reduced speeds. One was 6000 MT/s and would run reliable above 4800 MT/s. Also, had this paired with a 14900KS and it destroyed the memory controller, causing me to have to replace the CPU as well. Contacted ASUS amd sent in to RMA, couldn’t figure out the issue and sent me a replacement. This was an issue since out of the box. 2nd Board: Worked fine for about two months, still had small issue with RAM speed, had the 6000 MT/s running at 5200 MT/s, but was stable and no boot looping ever occurred. This was 4 DIMM kit, the 2 DIMM kit would run 5600 MT/s stable, not the 8000 MT/s advertised. I chalked this up to silicone lottery of the 13/14th gen Intels. After two months, started having random shut offs. Not freezing, or powering down, but complete shut offs, like if the power chord was yanked from the wall. First couple times happened, would boot back up like nothing happened. Then started happening again a week later, and in order to reboot, would have to unplug the PSU for 10+ minutes to even think about powering on (also ASUS Thor 1600 - left a bad review on that due to other issues with RMAing via ASUS). After a few times, I decided to test the PSU on failure, upon opening up the case, the area where the Caps/VRMs are was buzzing quite loud, and with load. Without load was quite. Took everything apart and couldn’t find a problem. After month of bickering with ASUS, was told a power issue in my home, despite several circuits/UPSs/surge protectors/etc. Long story short: Bought an MSI z790 to replace and a Corsair to replace the ASUS PSU.

Amazing mobo for the price.
Probably the best motherboard ive used. Coming from a gigabyte z790 wifi elite, this was a major step in the right direction. The compatibility with the upgraded components is night and day. The cpu socket and dedicated USB ports were much better quality. With a heads up display for board temp and error codes, makes diagnosing system problems a breeze. Only flaw I seen is that there is only 2 dedicated USB2 ports, where other maximus models have 3-4. But definitely worth the purchase.

Nice Board!
You get what you pay for. That’s all I can say. Not one issue with this board. You’ll probably have to bypass the internet connection when installing Windows 11, and install drivers that come with the USB stick Asus provides. You can find instructions on how to do this with a google search. Pretty simple..

Happy buyer super beast Mobo brand new & sealed. Upgraded from rog z790A wifi II. I know iknow.. what u going to say.. but shush... I just want all black mobo. Make sure that u have knowledge before swapping mobo cos not that easy to troubleshoot. U might deal liltle troubleshooting.Research before attemp. Before and after photos. Make sure to NOT use M.2_1 or else youll get pcie x8 4.0 Just leave that slot unoccupied to get x16 5.0 @ 16 x 5.0
