  • It's not cheap but if you need the feature set, this is a top-tier choice.
Style: ProArt|Black Size: 3X M.2|WiFi7|5Gb LAN
Been using this board daily for 6 months and so far, very good. As someone who usually purchases workstation or server motherboards used or new old stock from that online auction place, when I saw the price on this board it made my eyes water. Couple that with DDR5 prices these days and "sticker shock" doesn't come close to how I felt. But, it had to be done as my old desktop system started giving me weird hardware-related errors that a wipe and reload didn't fix. As I use my personal PC for both work and play, it must be bullet proof reliable. No overclocking, big aftermarket CPU cooler, you get the idea. I use the system literally 12-16 hours a day on average. Most AM5 boards, even full ATX ones are severely lacking in the PCI-E slot department. You either get one 16x electrical slot and 16x physical slot that runs at 4X or some weird combination of PCI-E slot sharing PCI-E lanes with M.2 NVME slots. This board does have some of those limitations, but it has so many PCI-E and M.2 NVME slots that you can achieve full bandwidth on all devices as long as you don't populate all the M.2 and PCI-E slots and read the manual while building. I'd advise reading the very detailed user manual to understand it fully. The "point" of this tier motherboard is it has 99% of the features and flexibility that most folks would need and in that, it excels. And because of that, it's "ouch" level pricey. I'm not using the wireless, so can't comment on that. Yes, it's a feature I paid for that I'm not using. Oh well. Running it with a Ryzen9 9900X (no overclock, just got a good deal on it) and 64GB (32GBx2) Micron DDR5-6000 non-ECC. I did flash it with the latest BIOS as a matter of course, right out of the box. The BIOS did not recognize the JDEC-spec DDR5-6000 automatically, instead downclocking it to 5600. There are a ton of memory tweaks available in the BIOS, so possibly I missed a setting. I left everything on "Auto" but it wouldn't recognize the RAM at 6000. I had to hard set it to 6000 and it's worked perfectly for about 6 months now. I have a Samsung 9100 Pro 1TB M.2 system drive, and Intel 10GB fiber NIC, an MSI RTX5070 GPU and a handful of 4TB spinning rust drives for local storage and a ton of USB-C and USB peripherals plugged into darn near every port. No issues with any of it. And that's exactly what you pay for with this board. I have this beautiful board tucked in a full tower case, under my desk and I never have to worry about it. Money well spent. BTW, my personal desktop usually lasts me 5-7 years before I swap them out for something new. That's my expectation, anyway. We'll see how it holds up over time. But so far, so good. Definitely recommended. ... show more

  • Dual GPU: Plan Around the Fan Headers
Style: ProArt|Black Size: 3X M.2|WiFi7|5Gb LAN
The ProArt B850 is a solid, well-executed board with a thoughtful layout. It shipped with the oldest BIOS revision, but the BIOS Flashback process is simple and reliable. One practical caveat for dual-GPU LLM setups: the second card can easily block the three fan headers along the bottom edge of the motherboard, leaving only a single usable header besides the CPU and CPU_OPT headers. My Gigabyte AI Pro R9700 left just enough clearance to fit, yet any future need to unplug or reseat cables along that edge requires pulling the card entirely. A minor but real inconvenience worth planning around. My setup includes the following: 9800X3D (Chatterbox TTS) 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 RTX 5070 ti (ComfyUI/Gemma 20B) AI Pro R9700 (Qwen3.8 27B) ... show more

  • Great mobo, be aware
Style: ProArt|Black Size: 3X M.2|WiFi7|5Gb LAN
Great mother board with loads of features. I was having post issues after my build and it boiled down to the 2 GPU setup I was running. After removing the second gpu I was able to post and get everything setup allowing me to install the second gpu. I'm only on day 2 with this setup so time will tell but I am happy with it so far. The box also came with a nice black cloth bag that appears to be of excellent quality. This bag has replaced my crown Royale dice bag for my TTRPG kit. ... show more

  • Overall and okay motherboard with a few strengths and a few weaknesses.
Style: ProArt|Black Size: 3X M.2|WiFi7|5Gb LAN
Overall an okay motherboard with a few strengths and a few weaknesses. I bought this to replace a cheaper Gigabyte board with a B650 chipset to get 2 x8 PCIe slots. I chose the Asus for the number of PCIe & M.2 slots and also the back panel layout with multiple usb type C connectors. As I moved my components from the less expensive Gigabyte, I was surprised by the mediocre quality of the higher end Asus. It’s not bad, but the Gigabyte is better. A few examples: Poor locking mechanism for the M.2 slots. These are just plastic tabs that have small bumps that lock the M.2 drive in place. The two main M.2 slots with heat sinks are just OK, but the 3rd, which doesn’t even come with a heat sink, has a really, really cheap plastic locking tab. Once the drive is in place, it is loose. Also, Asus put this 3rd M.2 slot right behind the 2nd GPU slot, preventing the use of any larger heat sinks. The two main M.2 slots have a metal plate under where the drive goes, these are held in place by two screws (4 in total), all of these screws were loose. I also noticed small faint spots on the surface of the board. They are likely just left over from the cleaning process that removes the flux used in manufacturing. This doesn’t give one the comfort of a quality build. The memory slots are the style that only have one movable lever on the right, the left doesn’t move. These seem cheap, but work okay I guess. This board also lacks an internal speaker connector. While this is old school, I still like to have it so you can “hear” that the system is booting without error, instead of having to look at tiny LEDs. The diagnostic LEDs are superior for troubleshooting, they just aren’t as convenient. I do like the bios a bit better than the Gigabyte. Overall I like the features of the board and it is really flexible for a B850, but it is overpriced for the quality you get. ... show more

  • be prepared to troubleshoot for a day or two
Style: ProArt|Black Size: 3X M.2|WiFi7|5Gb LAN
This board has me so much trouble, memory training issues, blue screens, the WiFi, Ethernet, drivers. Won't load Ubuntu or Debian out of the box, I ended up having to load windows and reflash the bios twice. Technically it has more pcie bandwidth than the x870e due to the usb4 that comes on those boards. It runs three 5060ti16gb if you also use m.2 conversion. Lots of customization in the bios for OC, but be prepared to fight it the whole way. Stay away if this is your first build. ... show more
