  • Pros and Cons of the Asus PN60 barebones PC
First of all, after decades of building custom servers, workstations, and gaming rigs, and having to lug around between 20 to 60 lbs. systems, my back is very happy with this little jewel! The ASUS PN60-BB3006MC Mini Barebones PC with an Intel i3-8130U CPU, is great! You'll get a very small case (under 5"x5"x3"), power supply, motherboard, CPU, fan and heat-sink, all pre-assembled and ready to go. Ports include: HDMI, USB 3.0 and 2.0, etc. Pros: 1. Compact size and lightweight 2. VESA mountable with bracket 3. Intel i3 8130U CPU chip 4. HDMI and Mini Display Port (DP) 5. USB 3.1 Gen1, standard and type-C, and USB 2.0 6. 1GB Ethernet Network Port 7. CPU cooler fan is fairly quiet under light office loads 8. Fair price Cons: 1. Under heavier loads the fan is audible, but not terrible 2. Don't need the 9-pin serial port, instead 2 more USB 3.0 ports would be better 3. The "U" CPU can get a bit bogged down if your anti-virus is running while you're trying to surf, or doing more than 3 or 4 things Overall: This is a great home or business mini PC for basic work loads. We really like this compact PC and have order more! Storage: You'll need to purchase and install your own HDD or SSD 2.5" or M.2 SATA drive, and either one or two sticks of SO DDR4 Memory (x2 slots). Gaming: Yes you can run basic games, and some newer lightweight 3D games, but no 120fps FPS here! :) Value: I gave it 4-stars only because I think it could cost be just a bit less. Tech support: Fair live customer support, with excellent website resources. I can find drivers I need for motherboards going back 10+ years. Recommend. ... show more

  • Nice mini PC for the money
This is my second mini barebones PC from Asus and happy with quality and performance. Easy to set up and configure, however I did run into a problem installing a PCIe NVMe SSD drive. The Asus documentation isn't clear about support for this type of SSD drive and I ended up returning it and installing a SATA M.2 drive instead. Also the fan noise is noticeable if you're using a memory intensive application. ... show more

  • Decent bare bones mini PC
Exactly as advertised-bare bones mini PC without memory or operating system included. Installing two DDR4 so-dimms totalling 32GB, a 1TB SSD, and a 256GB M2 drive purchased separately was quick and easy. As was installing separately purchased Windows 10 OS. Only downside perceived so far is the 256GB M2 often runs a bit on the hot side and fan is frequently operating at max speed. Not surprising given the small package, but a downside nonetheless. ... show more

  • Good little NUC for the money
Dropped a 120Gb SSD and some basic ram into it, got 10 loaded, and went on with the rest of my day. The UEFI is familiar and easy to use as you are used to if this isn't your first Asus product... if it is, takes all of 19 seconds to figure out. Nothing mysterious, just a good option for someone who doesn't need computing beyond word processing, intarwebz, cat videos and Hulu. Pleased as always, Asus just works, simple as that. ... show more

  • Super fast!
I build a lot of PCs using Asus motherboard’s. those are my favorite. I have been building PCs for over 15 years and have grown to trust this manufacture for several reasons. What surprised me about the small Barebone system was that it was full of power and could stream 4K UHD without breaking a sweat. I’m looking Forward to building many more of these. ... show more

  • Runs ubuntu fine
Product was delivered as promised. I installed 16GB of ram and a 250GB sata SSD. Installed latest version of ubuntu and had no problems with it. I use this computer mostly to learn programming. I am currently learning python and java. I take the free courses from MIchigan U and all the tools they recommend run great. I don't play games with this computer, but I think it would be underpowered for the lastest games as I am using the video via the cpu. ... show more

  • Fan way too loud
This is a very compact and reasonably powerful little unit. The features are well thought out it functions great running Linux. While quiet at idle, the fan gets quite loud under even moderate loads. I could not use it for my primary intended purpose but I did find another use for it where the fan noise matters less. ... show more

  • It’s OK
It’s good for the size. Boots up and searching the internet is great. I wanted it as a music server. But it’s too loud for that.
