Style: Win 10 Pro
This is a very powerful laptop with a high quality and stutdy casing. It worths the money if you need it for a heavy-duty type of jobs or computing works. Highly recommend it.

  • Not great after a year.
Style: Win 10 Pro
After a year once the warrenty was gone. The screen pad will randomly stop working quite often with no fix. (Restarting he computer doesn't fix it or restarting the drivers). The USB port also does not work and with one USB port you are screwed. My option for a mouse is either using Bluetooth or getting a type c to USB converter. I also went to a computer repair shop but they can't fix it because from their research the screenpad issue is a software problem and the computer doesn't have repair parts since it's new. Also the microphone seems to be very quiet, so your better off using some headphones with a microphone. ... show more

  • ScreenPad is a Gimmick
Style: Win 10 Pro
I needed a new laptop because the battery on my Dell laptop (an XPS 15 9575) had swollen up, pushing up the trackpad and deforming the keyboard. This was the second time this had happened. The first time was covered under warranty, the second time wasn't. I sent the Dell off for repair. But, I need a reliable laptop, so I chose the ASUS. I bought the ASUS in part because of the ScreenPad. It certainly brings a coolness factor to the laptop. But, I generally don't use it for much other than as a trackpad. I've used the calculator app a few times, and used it as a second screen a few times. But, overall, I don't find myself needing it a lot. (I got the version with the ScreenPad that is a trackpad replacement, not the wider "Plus" version. I was tempted by the wider version, but it is more expensive and the laptop lacks the SD card slot, which I needed. The one I got is lighter, has better battery life, and is thinner. Both have very high quality displays.) One annoyance is the ScreenPad counts as a second display, so when I connect an external display (e.g., for giving a PowerPoint presentation), I have three displays, not two. This can sometimes cause problems, such as when the mouse slides off of one screen onto another and I have difficulty finding the mouse. This most often occurs when I'm trying to click on the scrollbar or close box on a window that fills the screen. Also, sometimes the mouse gets trapped in one of the screens. Using the ScreenPad as a trackpad seems to snap it back to the main screen. But, I wish there were better tools for controlling how the three displays interact and for confining the mouse to one of the screens. (For example, how about requiring a slightly greater amount of effort for the mouse to slide to a different screen, so that you feel like you're bumping up against the edge. Also, I'd like to have the external display mirror the main laptop display except when I'm running a PowerPoint presentation. I tried all permutations of display specifications, and none quite does what I need.) Another issue was buying a spare A/C adapter to keep in my travel bag. I could not find the A/C adapter for this laptop on the ASUS website, or even the model number. (I did find the model number on the adapter itself and ASUS does not seem to sell it on their website.) I had to go with a third party adapter that matched the model number, as nobody seems to sell the OEM adapter, not even ASUS. But, other than these minor issues, it is a great laptop. I was able to connect it to the same dock and accessories I used with the Dell, without problems. These include a bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and a dock (with external monitor). ASUS is providing a three-month extension to the warranty to encourage people to write reviews. This did not influence the substance of my review. ... show more

  • A mixed bag of a laptop ...
Style: Win 10 Pro
Update after 6 months of use: All the points in original review below are still valid. It has been a reliable laptop on the road and has remained tight in fittings. The 4k display is brilliant. The screen pad is not useful and have turned it off. The main long term comment is that the keyboard is really bad. The soft press keys make the press ambiguous in speed typing or single vs double entry of same letter. The enter key is too small. Keep hitting the larger shift key below it. In general, the size and spacing of keys is such that I keep hitting adjacent keys often. The offset touchpad for main keyboard is annoying as the right palm keeps touching it while typing. Palm rejection does not work well. Battery life for such a huge battery is disappointing. Original review: I returned the FHD version to purchase the 4k OLED version elsewhere but both versions are same in all other respects. This is is with the 6 core - 12 thread i7-10750h CPU not the "u" CPU which is weaker. The CPU is powerful enough to run multiple virtual machines if necessary or do high performance multi-thread processing. But there are two limitations for high performance use. The fixed 16GB of memory is too small for applications that can really use the CPU power. The laptop works hard to keep down heat under the smallest stress and throttles the CPU considerably to keep it below 80C with fans blowing full throttle. So, the full power of the CPU is really not achieved in practice and the u CPU will be adequate for most applications. The lift mechanism that raises the laptop for air intake from the bottom is pitched as a positive for the ergonomics. It doesn't really make much difference if any for typing comfort but the air intake is a necessity for thermal reasons. Unfortunately, it also makes the laptop unusable literally as a laptop because the bottom of the screen digs into your thighs if you keep it on your lap making it very uncomfortable to use. Better used on a desk or with a laptop tray. Unfortunately, that makes the fans blowing sound louder. The fit and finish is very good even if a bit clunky looking with hard edges. Thermal issues also make the laptop compromise on the number of ports and having a USB hub around is very much necessary at work or during travel. The OLED 4k screen is brilliant literally and figuratively although using it at 4k resolution is impractical. Best used with 200% maginfication (at least) for a FHD resolution but higher DPI than the FHD screen (retina-like) for great clarity. This is the main advantage of the 4k OLED screen. But this requires being very careful about possible burn-in since Windows desktop (or for that matter any desktop OS) is not designed for OLED screens. A dark mode is essential for both battery hours as well as screen longevity. But most windows applications aren't designed with dark mode. There is very little bloatware for a retail laptop except for annoying nags from McAfee. Best uninstalled. The laptop comes with ASUS device management app myASUS. This is a piece of crap that is clunky, unreliable and throws up unhelpful messages like "System Interface Utility needs updating". Good luck finding how to do that. It can be used to find latest drivers easily. The BIOS can be updated in Windows by running a downloadable Windows EXE. But this did not work to update the firmware. It went through some installation screens and quit without updating BIOS versions . Had to download the firmware image and use the flash utility in the BIOS screen (whose AMI UI hasn't changed since the last century). No UEFI screens here. All-in-all, it is a reasonable compromise for productivity use since most laptops these days are designed for gaming or have serious compromises in power, looks or weight/battery life. It is very slim and light for a performance laptop of this size making portability practical. This laptop does a better mix of compromises than most but for a line that has been around for many years, it is still a bit too clunky and their software development lacking. Finally, ASUS as a brand is not a customer-friendly organization. They make good hardware and one hopes there is no need to use their customer support. After registration, I was contacted by ASUS to write a review in exchange for an extension of warranty by 3 months. I did but with the above pros and cons. ... show more
