  • Surprisingly well built. A good find among the china specials here on Amazon.
Rating is relative to the price. For the $$, this support works very well and gets the job done. The 3 point contact supports are far better/safer than the ones that only run side-2-side across the engine bay. This support has excellent adjustability. It did not mar the paint on the car I was working. I was supporting/lifting a FWD V8 (GM LS4 5.3L w/ 4 speed auto) and it held fine, never felt sketchy. I even shook the engine around a bit while trying to line up the chassis and the support held solid. No complaints there. I'll be supporting a diesel engine here in the spring so I'll report back if my opinion changes. Support comes with additional cable lifting sling for engines that lack lift points where you need them. The only annoyance is that the square plastic end cap pops out when you let the support collapse for storage. I'm sure some tape or adhesive could hold it tight. Paint quality on the unit I received was good. Wasn't flaking off. I doubt it will stay pristine after banging around the garage, but it was better than I expected at this price point. ... show more

  • Works great. One bracket that has J hook is too large, but manageable
Works great, used on AWD transverse mounted 4.4 V8 in a 2007 Volvo XC90. Perfect setup. Just wish the manufacturer would make the square sliding piece smaller that has the J hook, as it's significantly larger then the bar it slides on. The weight caused the square bracket to slightly bend. A kid could have seen that design would was flawed. Otherwise just shove rubber under gab or let it bend. Worked great, just that mo or flaw, hope it don't keep bending and eventually crack. ... show more

  • A Must Have for Front Driver Work
This thing saved my life. It's one of those tools that if you don't have it, you think it's a waste of money, but if you buy it and use it once, you realize how much time and energy you've been wasting by not using this thing. It just makes pulling a transmission out of a front driver go absurdly smooth compared to other methods I've used. It can also be used to pull an engine, holding the transmission stationary as well. Now I did that job last year on the same car, changed the engine that is, and I even did it with a lift. I pulled the whole engine/transmission/subframe/suspension assembly as a unit, and let me tell you, even with the lift, it was a lot harder job than simply using this thing. I've also pulled front drive engine/transmission assemblies out the top, disconnecting them after, also much more difficult than this way. This time I just pulled the subframe out first, then, with the engine held fast by this item, dropped the transmission with a standard transmission jack. Doing it this way was about on par with a typical rear drive transmission swap I sold the scissor lift months ago because it didn't actually make the job much easier, and I'm glad now that I used a fraction of the money to get extra tall jack stands, a transmission jack attachment and this support bar to do the work instead. Things just seemed to fall into place, I didn't have any huge messes or broken parts, and the job was done in less time than the pros would bill it for. Worth every penny and then some. As far as how I used it, I just used the all-thread hooks into the engine lift eyes directly. I did not use the cable, so I can't speak to its usefulness. On my application, the cowl comes out past the engine a little, even with all the plastics removed, so I did have to tweak the hook to get it engaged with the lift eye at the front of the engine and still clear that sheet metal (right or rear side of the transverse V6 in a Ford Flex), but it worked great once I got everything into place. Like I said above, once I torqued down the nut a little on each hook, the engine didn't move a bit the rest of the job. Worked flawlessly. ... show more

  • Cannot be beat. Great.
Love it. $40 and fit my car perfect. 2006 Pontiac Vibe. I removed my hood for better access. The third leg is a bit wobbly due to gaps, so I attached a 90° shelf bracket with a bunch of zip ties to make it stiff. I also bought a few 1-foot lengths of chains to use instead of the steel wire - as the chain is cheap and allows for more ease of adjustment. I highly recommend tossing the spiral wrap around each of the feet, as it's low friction stuff - I believe it's only on there for shipping, but you'd rather scratch your shock towers than have the thing slide around. I was pleasantly surprised that mine was not red - but blue and yellow, like the Swedish flag. Worked great. I was easily able to move my engine/trans up and down to get certain mounts out. I felt confident under the engine/trans on the ground. ... show more

  • Wrong size bolt. But worth the money
Was easy to assemble till I got the 110mm bolt. it was too short only 100mm. Emailed customer service no response. I had to buy a bolt to fit. The vinyl wrappings on the feet caused it to slide around. I removed and replaced with split pieces of rubber tubing it no longer slides. Update: just finished using it when replacing the clutch in my Ford Fusion. It worked perfect. Hardware was strong and smooth even when holding the engine and transmission. I was able to make minor adjustments to engine angle when installing transmission. ... show more

  • An essential and affordable tool for engine/transmission repair, but terrible customer service.
It did its job for 6 months and kept me safe, but upon disassembly the anchor hook threads stripped. I was very careful not to cross-thread or overload the anchors, but the attached photo shows the damage. Now the tool isn't useable anymore without new hooks - and I wouldn't normally complain, but I can't get the manufacturer or the seller to honor the 1 year warranty. The manufacturer won't respond, the seller keeps telling me to contact them instead of taking responsibility. All I want is a new anchor hook! I may have to fabricate it myself. ... show more

  • Works well
Was changing a transmission in a Hyundai Sonata. This kept the engine in position while the transmission was out.
